That’s true, we South Africans will fight crazy amongst each other racially but please don’t even try to involve yourself in our business and be a know it all or try to misrepresent or disrespect us, we will come together in all racial groups and take you down. We can be petty too when you start with us, we will finish it. Love that you enjoy and understand our cultures so much…we do enjoy American culture but we also have our cultures, which we are fiercely proud of as a rainbow nation. SA is far from being a perfect or cohesive nation but you’re right, it’s happening slowly and it will take time, but the will is there and we have the tenacity to make it happen. This is honestly one of the best and most unique countries you’ll ever live in, we know this and we’ll protect it and build on the foundations to make it better, thanks for contributing positively to it Aunt Ash💕🇿🇦

As a South African, I've noticed that we are very united in two respects. The first (and most obvious one) is, of course, sports - when there's a rugby match with the Springboks, or a Dricus du Plessis fight, or one of our athletes competing at the Olympics, baba you can BET you are gonna see South Africans of all races, creeds and religions coming together to support our teams. And if we happen to win (which we've been doing a lot lately) get ready, because you are going to hear it from us for WEEKS. The second area where I see a lot unity is in the workplace. In practically every company or business in this country you will find hard-working South Africans of all races cooperating together as colleagues, completing projects and smashing deadlines left right and centre. South Africans are very ambitious, resourceful and goal-oriented, and for this reason they tend to work well together in business environments. Outside these two areas, we are sadly still a very divided nation, with differences of opinion on many, MANY things.....

we are only divided because we not a very outspoken people. Tyla and other artist like her are the minority of South africans that speak up. most of us are humble quiet shy we rather hang out with others who look like us. the next generation they ONLINE children they already in groups of people that like the same music, fashion, video games and movies. My nice is a k-pop fan has mixed race friends, my 15 year old son a gamer has mix raced friends. I found comic book collectors and anime lovers and hey mis raced too. but at work if im not hanging out with the coloureds i mind my own business not racist just dont know if they like what i like. and its hard living in JHB and supporting the Blue Bulls and Sundowns🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Ashley, I've been following your posts for a while now and I find your takes on our country so interesting. When I was younger I always wanted to travel and maybe even work overseas, but as socio-economics have changed globally and I'm older, I find myself being grateful for my blessings. Even as South African, it's difficult to explain what we have here. With all the disparities and divides there is still a sense of unity, as you've explained. We've seen some dark days, in our past and even in today's age to the point where we ask ourselves "why? what are we even doing?" But then we pick ourselves up and get on with it! Maybe it's our faith that keeps us going? But we fight and challenge our circumstance, because if you don't - for some people this means you will literally die. Thank you for sharing a different perspective❣xoxo from Cape Town

There is an American church that has been in South Africa for many years. There are always two, young white men wearing white shirts, a tie and black pants and they walk around spreading the word. These young men walk around Soweto, Langa, Mdantsane and other black neighbourhoods without any issues. This goes to show that racism in S.A is not what it is made out to be. Despite what we have gone through as a people, all we want to do is just get along with everyone.

I'm a White American living in Cameroon. Racism is real in America, I grew up with it being born in early 50's. I've been in Cameroon since 2017, mostly the largest problem I have is the locals think Americans are all rich! Sure, my retirement makes me very comfortable here. But if I were in America I would be struggling as many do who retire in America. Yet, education is lacking in this country, especially in the Anglaphone section where war has caused many schools to be burnt down. Amazonian fighters, Boko Haram, have been responsible for a lot of unrest. When a country has a lack of educational opportunities, this lack will have a very bad effect for the whole next generation! As is true with any 3rd world Nation.

If politicians keep talking about race and different races, we will aleays think that way. We will always mention and think of race. What we need are people to think of us as all human! We have different cultures, but those differences make us a beautiful and more interesting. We should be embracing those differences and not listening to the politicians asking us to keep pushing these differences. Poverty is probably the hardest thing here. And also a sense of entitlement does not make for respectful relationships.

As a white South African, I just want to clear up a few things. Apartheid was humiliating to black people and the government did things that was unknown to us as ordinary citizens. I can actually confirm that state hospitals were tip top, clean and efficient, there was very little crime and we were, in our Christian culture, never told to hate or kill blacks. Listen to adv Ike Khumalo. More children are now dying in our state hospitals, due to staff negligence and the stealing of vital medicine. Apartheid was wrong, but we were actually brought up much stricter and more respectful than what we experience in this country today.

There was plenty of disgusting stuff going on and I came out of a pretty conservative English speaking apartheid family. But I can tell you I would have been in for a beating if I was ever disrespectful. I had to serve 2 years National Service in the military and ironically one of the first lessons was on winning over hearts and minds. But the most amazing thing to me is that never once while I was uniform did a South African Black ever come across as anything but friendly towards me. That is truly remarkable.

Ashley, you emotional intelligence 🔥 You are sociologist, whether qualified or not. Black Americans have formidable social capital, and only Americans themselves can ruin it, I'm glad you mentioned using this social capital responsibly. Black Americans are just not appreciated in America, but outside America, they command immense social capital; Nigerians commanded the same respect and admiration, and then they ruined it for themselves (now they are acting like victims). Black Americans are socially conscious, which will only grow this social capital they command. You have done well for yourselves, to survive so much and come out commanding the world's respect. The moral values the United States once held long ago and which nations at one time sought to emulate, as you have pointed out, have seemingly evaporated. Black South Africans are in a better and more privileged position in terms of their power relations and dynamics with their white counterparts than their black brothers and sisters in the States because of political power, numerical superiorty/advantage and a sense of place, identity and belonging. Our responsibilty is to use this wisely by transforming the skewed economic relations that exist in the country inorder to get the country moving and increase the black middle class. Black South Africans and Black Americans are the two largest black middle class groups in the world in the two largest and most developed economies in their respective brackets namely in the world for the US and in Africa for SA. Their shared historical idenities and experiences of racism and economic exclusion should forster a greater sense of purpose between the two groups. Black Americans have an opportunity to invest, collobrate and make money in Africa and South Africa especially because of this. Its up to them to take advantage of what being American means and what being black American means in South Africa. Dialogue and concrete collaboration in various sectors needs to be cultivated in ernest. The reason why white people all over the world are able to mantiain the same standards of living and economic power structure is their ability to connect their economies through the colour of their skin. Maybe you and I must organise an empowerment and collaboration Indaba between black South Africans and African Americans in order to really move this proccess from a mere social media conversations to something more tangible. You already have a platform that addresses this, the benefit of collaborating means that some of these conversations can easily get to booardroom and ears of those institutions that should be asssisting the black industrialist, and entrepreneurship program of government across different sectors. Tourism, Mining, Agriculture, Education, Renewble Energy, Construction, Digital Economy, Logistics and Real Estate. This is where our focus should be. Black South Africans have communal land which is under the custodianship of our Traditional authorities and therefore manages itself outside the often capital intensive formal land tenure system. Here lies the wealth of all black people more than in any other potential area of development.

To me, it appears that she is simply shedding light on why she departed and is offering free and generous consultation to folks who are considering a move. I challenge you to reflect on why 1) you are continuing to view her content in spite of her supposed “emphasis” on critiquing America and 2) you take issue with it enough to demand she stop doing it. If you are like me, it’s likely coming from a place of American indoctrination/colonization and toxic loyalty (think Stockholm) that the US empire has never earned from you. You brought up the efforts of freedom fighters in America’s history as if she was dogging them and their efforts which as an African American, i deeply resent. If anything she’s honoring their legacy by doing the work she does. As a middle class American of color, l have visited South Africa just as l’ve visited a few other European countries. At the end of the day, no country beats America for me. Maybe because l do have sufficient income, a lengthy legacy of American-based heritage, and cultural pride in what my family has amassed as Americans that l feel this way. Listening or reading narratives taken from bygone eras when most of us weren’t even born and/or haven’t directly experienced is becoming commonplace and dangerous. America is not a monolithic country in terms of ethnic grouping, socioeconomics, education, religion, or anything else. The ethnic and multiethnic diversity alone needs to be acknowledged, understood, and accepted. The unrest among segments of the American population is usually caused by differing socioeconomics in certain communities regardless of skin color. The economic base needs to be improved in such areas, especially in the large metropolitan environments that receive the most media coverage. 🎉🎉

Stop it 😂. You are not American because you can't even spell Xenophobia. South Africans are not Xenophobic. The truth of the matter is that you need to sort out your documents. We were abused by apartheid and now our so-called African brothers? The way you want to transport your hate of South Africans to every KZbin channel is disgusting. This lady is talking about her experiences in SA.

Thanks for speaking to the positive in South Africa Ashley. We do (generally) love each other here - all races. We've had enough conflict (not just between races - South Africa is way more complex than black/white thinking) .Also, we don't have a winner, loser culture, where value is tied to wealth. I guess it's the same wherever you go in the world - don't look down on people because you may have more money.

Someone mentioned something about coloured people in the comments. I looked it up. As a white South African, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lynsey and Tessa. A bit long but here is an open discussion with coloured people about coloured people, with Lynsey Ebony Chutel and Tessa Dooms. These ladies are brilliant. They do not beat around the bush (they share the good as well as the bad). I applaud them for their obectivity. Well done ladies! I'm leaving the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5vGkqFsi89_eKM

@ccapital_t Nice try to pit me against Ashley. But Ashley is an african diaspora who should have a right to reside anywhere in africa. Unlike you who have your own african country that you are avoiding to fix.

On the one hand we don't argue about reproductive rights, and on the other, when it comes to immigration, you'll likely find our private opinions coincide and are aligned to the right. Our major issues are primarily on how to manage the economy and how to reduce crime. That's where we trade blows. There's little of the malice that is going on in other democracies, and we all belt out our anthem when called upon.

well indigenous people were being wiped out long before "western wars", when Islam was at its peak it did the same. Ottomans did the same so I think if you want people to buy into your narrative you need honest facts and not your narrative or explain your point better. I enjoyed this show it was good.

If American racism is so top tier then millions upon millions of non-white people would not be migrating to the USA every single year.

@gibson2675, probably most of these migrants are from countries that were destabilized by the US but generally, people with little to no choice will move to where they think they'll be better off than their current situation
