Why Replay Takeover Should Be The Most Demanded Feature In Fighting Games

Over the weekend Tekken 8 announced it would have a replay takeover feature included in its full release. The +R replay takeover has been so valuable to the overall improvement of the player base, and it's a feature I am extremely adamant about seeing in every game possible going forward.
If you've never seen replay takeover be put to use, I hope this video shows you just how powerful it is, and why it should be the number 1 thing you request of any fighting game dev going forward.
Have any questions about the replay takeover? Want to learn more? Feel free to ask away in the comments.

I'd go as far as to say saving just specific clips of the the match so that you can takeover later would be nice. Clip saving the takeover of the replay (especially your opponent) should also be a part of this. Even better if you can save them, put them in a replay-list of sorts where you can set the list to random and have it play out so that you can practice on multiple scenarios of the same situation which include clips of both the original replay mixups and your own takeover mixups or even of different characters (depending on how you customize your list). If a patch happened that changed moves significantly, older clips will be marked with a warning stating that the clip may not play out the same way as it did due to the patch.

I'm probably in the minority, but one of the things I like to do when I'm struggling in a matchup is to just buckle down and learn whatever character I'm struggling with. I learned Susano'o just to learn what all of his specials do, and now whenever I fight him I know when the overheads can come, and I know what specials he has unlocked at a given moment. Currently working on learning izanami, it's becoming more clear just how much work this character takes. Those combos are VERY tricky.

I would LOVE to see you do a full break down, long-form video of you taking a match or two and combing through it like this. really dig into it.

strive dropped the ball on this, the rewind feature should be in strive man I hate watching a replay of my matches and not being able to rewind is frustrating

I remember saying this to a guy on discord about strive and he told me it's not that bad and its the standard even tho rewind should be a basic thing every fighting game should have by now

I SHOULDNT have to record my replays on obs just to rewind a strive clip. It should be in the game like +R. It makes thing so much easier to look at tbh

Yeah, not gonna lie I thought that this feature would show up at some point in Strive's life - and while I won't hold my breath there, its nice seeing it coming to another modern fighter. Hopefully it'll become a feature considered for launch in more games.

I've been waiting for this to be inmplemented in all modern games with no luck. Such a good feature.

Also, like, don't sleep on this as an option for getting to the "actually kind of understand your character" level, too. Early days for me in +R, being able to go in and understand why I got washed, and try and get my hands to understand what I could do to not, just, eat the stupid combos was incredibly useful.

Top 3 most demanded - 1. Good netcode (Rollback) 2. Replay Takeover 3. Rematch Button (pls why modern games I don't need 30 seconds between games)

I was thinking about this the other day. Labbing matchups would be a lot easier if I could test the options one by one with stuff that actually happens in the match.

Tekken 8 getting replay takeover is certainly notable, but it perhaps isn't making the waves you think it should be making because Tekken's a lot more grounded than +R. I think the feature identifying punishable/steppable/duckable moves is just as if not a bit more important (with takeovers supplementing that) because the solutions in Tekken are very cut-and-dry unless you're dealing with a tricky stance character.
