Revolvers are a must in my eyes. That's why I got one. They will almost never jam and its easier to clean than semi autos. Of course the downfall is the slower rate of fire, low capacity and time it takes to reload. But above all revolvers are beautiful guns, easier to use and have a historical meaning.

Police came straight away, I'm still going to wait and see the legal repercussions of this, but now thinking about it I'm glad I chose a tiny snuby. Because if I had a compact semi auto it would probably have failed or I would not be fast enough to draw it, the guy would probably search me for anything and then find it and possibly shoot me. I swear he was with the gun pointed to my face and yet I think he did not realise I had a gun even as I was shooting, he just stood there and took it, definitely this kind of thing will catch even the most violent people off guard because you can hide so much from them.

@user-zv2eu1vj4l4 ай бұрын
“I think we all know that the best carry gun is..... the one you ACTUALLY carry everyday.” I AGREE with this adage 100% as long as that’s ALL that is done WITH that gun: CARRYing it. I know at least a few individuals that only CARRY a tiny .22 revolver and others that only CARRY a tiny .32 ACP pistol (Seecamp). Each of these people are extremely satisfied that they are able to CARRY their handgun very efficiently and with very minimal inconvenience regardless of climate, attire, or circumstance. They’re very proud of that ability. They practice discharging their weapon in a static range session at least 2- 3 times annually. They choose quality, factory-made ammunition by major makers. Each of these people UNDERSTAND that their chosen firearm will NOT be the best at stopping the aggression of someone INTENT on doing them egregious bodily harm, BUT the notion of having it to easily CARRY gives them some modicum of confidence that they can protect themselves should a stern look and a shout fail to do so. I envy them that they have achieved a platitude in life and society that allows them to believe that the harsh realities do not, directly, affect them so that they can feel comfortable with a product to CARRY as a self-defense device that is the equivalent of an ornamental conversation piece.

I couldn't agree more! You could also add that a J or even a K frame revolver is far superior for gun retention. There is very little for the attacker to get a hold of. Legendary police gunfighter, the late Jim Cirillo always used a revolver on the stakeout squad. Another advantage; the .38/.357 can handle a large number of different calibers. This includes the +P's, +P+'s, etc. You don't need to polish the feed ramp to accept hollow points, either.
@fppro16794 жыл бұрын
In the '60s the Air Force went from 45 automatics to 38 Smith & Wesson's or colts. The reasoning was you didn't have to practice as much, they had fewer self-inflicted wounds, etc. I always recommend a revolver for a first pistol because you can always look at a revolver and pretty much know its state whereas an auto may have one in the chamber and some autos may be cocked and ready to go. Auto pistols you have to train with to be proficient and you have to train to clear them if they have a misfire during a fight All you do with a revolver is just pull the trigger again.

I recently switched over to a 3" 686+ for one very important reason. Both my semi-autos kept feed jamming and stove piping the last time I took them to the range. Good thing I found it out there and not in a critical defense situation. My EDC was a para-ordnance C6 with a 6 round magazine. This constantly stove pipes and feed jams. The one that really surprised me was my at home defensive gun Beretta 92 Brigadeer. I have owned this gun for 20 years and never, ever had an issue with it until just recently. Every magazine I loaded (I have 3-15 round magazines) kept feed jamming on me. This was a real eye opener for me. Until I can find out what's going on with these two guns I put my 629-6" back in the house quick access safe and bought the 3" 686+ for my EDC. I will probably stick with the 686 for EDC. Feel a lot more assurance in its reliability. I am also thinking about having the 686 milled down for "Moon Clip" reloads instead of the slower standard speed loaders.

Another huge advantage to revolvers that wasn't mentioned here is that you can fire your revolver with one hand if the other hand is disabled or occupied. With a semi auto you need both hands to operate the slide or clear misfires. Also, the perp can disable your semi auto by just grabbing the slide, that's what Michael Brown did in Ferguson in 2014. If the perp grabs your revolver you can still fire it, especially a hammer less model. In close quarters fighting a revolver can still work, a semi auto most likely will not.

I may be wrong about this, concealed carry is really confusing to me because of my weird body shape. But, in my eyes, it seems like I could conceal a revolver of a similar size to a full size semi much easier than the latter. The rounded profile and overall shape of the gun just seems like it would fit to my body better, while having the potential to have a higher caliber round AND the added comfort of a full tang grip and heft of a full metal frame.

Another reason I like revolvers over semi-autos is the fact that a revolver does not sling empty shell cases all over the place. That is a big plus if you reload your ammo. And, if I have to shoot and run, I do not want to leave spent rounds left behind on the ground as a calling card.

Your comments on semi-auto's sometimes fail to properly eject and feed another round reminded me of something I witnessed many years ago when qualifying for my concealed carry! A man and wife were sharing a Glock. He never had a problem, but when she used the gun she often got a "stove pipe"! The instructor finally figured out she didn't "lean into" the recoil quite enough for the slide to fully function! She was absorbing some of the recoil needed to operate the slide! Once she resisted the recoil just a little she had no more problems!

I know revolvers are more reliable. I am no commando, operator, or award winning shooter. So how can I say revolvers are more reliable? I have been on the planet for a long time and have done a shit load of shooting and I have seen more problems with semi-autos. Yes, I have had revolvers that failed. Both were S&W 22's that had many thousands of rounds fired through them and eventually some of the part just wore out. In one or two cases I had cylinders lock-up because I had failed to seat the primer deeply enough when I was reloading. On the other hand I have many semi-autos fail for. It is not even close when I think about the reliability of revolvers compared to semi-autos. The revolver is more reliable, and no matter how long lovers of semi-autos try to argue otherwise facts are facts and their desires will not change those facts. If you favor the semi-auto do it because of the higher capacity or something that they have that revolvers don't, but trying to argue their intrinsic reliability over revolvers is a false argument.

It doesn't matter what you carry just so long as you are comfortable in carrying what you do carry and that you are the most proficient at shooting what you do carry and that leads to being more confident and better accuracy in any life threatening situation !!!!

True Story. When I was attending the polie academy in 2008 we were in the lecture room listening to one of the much older instructors. He was talking about how "back in his day" police officers carried revolvers and why he still believed they are superior. So after listening to him lecture on the topic for while he threw out the question to the entire class as to why we thought all modern day departments had gone semi-auto. A real douche bag who happened to be my department raised his hand. His answer was, "You would need to go to a museum to find one." The room exploded into the laughter but that old instructor was so pissed that he wasn't being taken serious.

When I was working corrections, our department issued us 686's for side arms when we took folks out to places, or transported to any other facility. The reason being was some of our officers had never shot a handgun in there life, and it is in fact a simple gun to shoot. My everyday carry is an M&P full size, but I also bought a 686 to carry in the summer. I also carry my LCP in the summer, and my Glock 17 in the winter. I'm on my last 3 weeks in the police academy, and my instructor also talked about his own experience with revolvers, and his daily is a 4 inch Smith. We go to practice on department issued weapons, as well as we may shoot our own. The department issues a Glock 34, and most all of us are fully qualified, but I actually shoot my 686 a tad better than any of my 9's. my instructor now calls me John Wayne

I pocket carry. Carrying a J-frame or an LCR is easier than a 9mm. The only 9mm with a double stack that I could pocket carry was the SCCY. I like the SCCY, but prefer revolver. The SCCY still printed more than the revolver.

***** I used to wear skinny Wrangler jeans. The pockets were too small for a revolver. A small .380 would fit, bit I didn't want a .380. After some extensive research, I found a Ripstop pant that worked well. (Ripstop is a cotton/nylon blend. It is a great material by the way.) Finding a Ripstop pant that isn't a cargo pant is very hard. Especially with my 29 inch waist. 511 makes a Taclite Prop in a jean cut style. The front pockets are a little bigger and allow me to comfortably carry and draw a revolver. The pants aren't a cargo pant, so they look normal. I hate cargo pants. I also had a pair of khaki dress pants, but the pockets were so big that my gun flopped all over and wouldn't stay in proper orientation. Pockets can't be too small, nor can they be too big. The 511 Taclite Pro is the Mama Bear of the pocket carry world.
@K9River8 жыл бұрын
***** Of course you will have some sort of bulge. A double stack 9mm prints more than a revolver. People don't look at your pockets and go, "Wow, that's a big bulge. He must be carrying a gun." They don't notice the bulge. If they do notice a bulge, they don't think "gun". Those extraordinary few that do identify the bulge as a gun probably already carry themselves, so no problem. One time a lady was having a hard time closing a Yakima cargo basket on the top of her Suburban. The truck was full of kids and adults. With the door of the 'Burban open, I stepped up on the threshold to hold one end down while she held the other end down to latch the lid. The whole truck got a perfect view of all the bulges in my groin area (or lack of bulges) and said nothing. This occurred right in front of a packed school at some sort of school gathering; if there were any place that someone would freak out over a gun, this would be it. I've snuggled with girls and when they bump against my gun, they say nothing. Yes, there is a bulge, but it has never caused a problem in even the remotest sense. At first, I felt as if I were wearing a neon sign that said "GUN!" with a flashing arrow pointing to my pocket, but the opposite happened. I'm exaggerating, but I did have anxiety at first. Sometimes our perceptions don't quite match up with reality- that was the case with me when I first started carrying.
@K9River8 жыл бұрын
***** They don't notice my bulge. It isn't some massive bulge that overshadows all other aspects of my appearance. It is a modest bulge. People don't notice if people are carrying stuff in their pockets. If you want to wear 80's skinny jeans, then it will show. If pockets for you are more of a fashion statement than a practical accessory, then putting anything in your pockets won't work. My pants aren't baggy nor are they tight; they fit relatively well. If you don't want any bulge whatsoever, then use a shoulder holster with a medium jacket. Or use an ankle holster with Wellington boots. Carrying a gun will require some adjustment depending on how you want to dress. Some want to paint their clothes on. For them, unless they colon carry, they are going to noticeably print.

Before any one says it, Yes revolvers do occasionally have failures, usually cylinder bind due to carbon build up on the cylinder face. Which only happens after putting a few hundred rounds through them at the range in one session. However when you carry a revolver i can guarantee it will be clean, and will without a doubt function 100% when needed. A semi auto may be 100% guaranteed to fire the first round but then when feeding the next round anything can happen. And you all know when your at the range shooting some weird shit does occasionally happen. All i got to say is Murphy's Law
@TheMopar1819906 жыл бұрын
So, since were talking personal preference. My everyday carry is a Ruger sr40c with a 15-round extended magazine. Naturally I carry one in the tube so there is 16 shots. To date I have sent 3500 or so rounds down range and I could count the failures I've had on one hand so "To me" that's pretty good odds while also the ability to carry that much extra ammunition in the firearm is a far superior advantage to anything you mentioned. Especially considering most people that are carrying these pistols are not going to be ex-military or police officers or formally trained in any way. So when a threat presents itself your accuracy will suffer greatly most likely and you may really appreciate those extra rounds. As you said to each his own but that's my opinion
@jimbob73326 жыл бұрын
Well.....here is the issue with most gun owners they look at it as i have it i shot it i'm trained which is about as stupid as saying i own a knife i cut with it i'm a trained chief, if you train to the correct level of proficiency with a revolver it is a wonderful weapon of choice, that being said it takes less training hours to reach that level with a semi auto and everyone loves the FBI stats that 98% of shots in a fire fight don't hit the target blah blah and that is true for a variety of reasons but if you can hit your target accurately the first time which is usually your best shot, the weapon is a tool that is only as good as the person using it is a revolver bad? maybe if you don't train with it, is a semi bad? maybe if you fail to train with it. if you never train with a semi auto you will never hit a thing when it counts 6 or 600 rounds wont matter

So there's something I've been thinking on that I would really like some outside thoughts on. I don't carry a revolver, but I'm thinking about it. As much as people think about the mall spree shooter, that's not really something that I'm concerned about. I'm more worried about a car jacker or some guy in a parking lot where you have virtually no warning until the attacker is right on top of you and you are definitely the target. That's an extreme close quarters situation. Over the past few years, I've noticed a trend in the better documented accounts of those sorts of situations. These encounters are often pretty physical and there are frequently mentions of a firearm just going click when the trigger is pulled in the middle of the fight. Often several times, until it finally works. I believe that this is largely caused because semi-automatics can be, and frequently are, pushed out of battery in a scuffle. So with that in mind, how easy or difficult is it to render a revolver inoperable, either on accident or on purpose. I suppose an exposed hammer would be a problem, but there are revolvers with internal hammers and this is also a problem with many semi-autos as well. How easy is it to stop the cylinders from rotating by just grabbing them and holding on tight? Can that totally break the gun? How possible is it for someone just grabbing at the gun to break it open? On a semi-auto the magazine release could be activated, but that at least still leaves the one in the chamber and one is better than none.
@exothermal.sprocket4 жыл бұрын
The likelihood someone would have the reach, the nerve, the foreknowledge to grab a rotating cylinder to render a revolver inoperable is next to none.

Your point about the moving barrel in a semi auto, assuming you are speaking about the browning short recoil action type guns, is nonsense. The projectile leaves the gun so fast, that the bullet is long gone before the barrel recoils back and shifts around. The projectile leaving the barrel does so from a completely stationary barrel, for all intents and purposes. Second, it doesn't even matter if semi autos are less accurate for a carry option, because you yourself have admitted in a video at some time, parroted the statistic that most self defense shootings take place at no greater than 7 yards. Most self defense shootings take place even closer than that. So match grade accuracy isn't a big concern, at all. The only valid points you made were about malfunctions and clearing those malfunctions. Yes, everyone with a brain definitely agrees revolvers are more reliable, and most semi auto malfunctions come from magazine issues and and I would argue secondly, limp wristing. I don't get why a smart guy like you would be present such easily refuted arguments, such as semi autos aren't as accurate as revolvers, which may be but when it comes to carry guns, that is an unimportant issue. A slightly less accurate firearm is not a concern in self defense shootings. You aren't making aimed shots at long ranges. Most of it is point-shooting I love your channel and I love your musings, but you gotta just admit sometimes you were wrong. There's no shame in it, everyone at some point says something dumb.
