@billykorando
@billykorando 2 ай бұрын
I think a difference between this Chiefs team and all the other threepeat contenders is the Chiefs also had a lot of *prior* success to their back-to-back championships. The four years prior to the first of the back-to-back titles was AFCCG, SB win, SB loss, AFCCG. only the ‘78-‘79 Steelers teams had something comparable. This team has an incredible pedigree and the leaders of this team know what it means to win and the pain of lose in *high stakes* postseason games.

Besides the Steelers, the Patriots run that immediately preceded/overlapped with this Chiefs run, where they went to 8 consecutive AFC championship games, winning 5 and going 3-2 in Super Bowls. They were never officially threepeat contenders because they never went back-to-back in that stretch, but they did go to three straight Super Bowls from 2016 to 2018, lest we forget.

Position wise the Chiefs are better off than the previous teams attempting the 3-PEAT. The 90’s Cowboys lost both Coordinators AND Jimmy Johnson, in addition to Free Agency departures by players. The 2000’s Patriots lost both Coordinators and half of the coaching staff in 2005 plus Ty Law and others to Free agency. Teddy Brewski had a mild stroke over the off season. 2024 Chiefs are intact coaching wise, two losses to Free Agency Gay and Sneed will hurt but it appears they upgraded every other weakness (WR) and potentially LT. Mahomes and Travis are healthy, the middle of the line is amongst the best in the league. The defense should still be stout, so let’s go Chiefs.

Andy Reid arrived in KC in 2013 and couldn't get past the 2nd round of the playoffs if they did make it. They were the Walmart Tennessee titans just the DOORMATS for other teams to come and walk all over them especially in the 1st Rounds, Then Patrick Mahomes was sent from the future took over the snaps in 2018, and proceeded to take them to 6 STRAIGHT AFC Championships / 4 Super Bowls in his first 6 seasons the youngest & only QB to do so in NFL History. He plays the position, unlike anything we have ever seen. To put things into perspective the Dallas Cowboys hasn't played in an NFC Championship game closing in on 30 Years and for KC before Mahomes took over it was 50 plus LONG years in terms of a Super Bowl appearance.
@rcdesigns
@rcdesigns 2 ай бұрын
The Mahomes haters either conveniently forget this, or omit this. Esp the ones from NE. They say Bill is better than Andy, and Gronk is better than Kelce, but when it comes to the Brady vs. Mahomes argument, they switch up and all the sudden Bill sucks, Gronk sucks, etc. All Andy did prior to coming to KC was choke in the playoffs. That's why he was ultimately booted from Philly. I distinctly remember him continuing that trend here. Blew a HUGE lead to the Colts, lost to the Steelers after they didn't even get into the end zone, kicked 6 field goals and beat us 18-16. Let Marcus Mariota beat us on the pass to himself game. The Kansas City media and fans wanted Coach Reid outta here. Nothing but blunders and bad decisions in the playoffs. All the sudden Mahomes came along and he's just covering up Andy's bad decisions. (Hardman fumbling on back to back reverses, etc.) Do you think Trav is a first ballot walk in hall of famer (and the GOAT TE) if not for Pat? Brady and Gronk had the record, 15 TDs in 22 games in the playoffs. Now Pat and Trav have 18 in 18. Trav is breaking Jerry Rice's playoff records. Among QB's with 10+ playoff starts, Mahomes is #1 in history in completion %, QB rating, winning %, and total YPG. Pretty easy to win when you have that guy under center.

It would be a little bittersweet because the State Farm Bowl was "supposed" to happen in 2020 when Rodgers was still with the Packers, just as we would've been much better off seeing (and very nearly got to see) a Super Bowl between the high-flying Chiefs and Saints in 2018. We may never get to see Rodgers face Mahomes at all, let alone in the midst of the former's late-career prime that saw him win back-to-back MVPs.

A three-peat in the NFL would be new by me.

The Chiefs' roster is better on paper than it was the last two seasons. In 2022, when they lost Hill and Mathieu, everybody in the media counted them out and I don't want history to be rewritten to pretend they didn't. Then all they did was go 14-3, Mahomes had his second career 5,000-yard, 40-TD season at the age of 27, and won both the AFC championship and the Super Bowl with a bum ankle. In 2023, their wide receiver room had something like the most drops of any team in a decade, Mahomes posted career high interceptions and career low TDs, and the Chiefs faced the longest and hardest road in the playoffs in the Mahomes era, and they won the Super Bowl in spite of it. They've upgraded at most offensive positions, stood basically pat on defense, and kept their coaching staff intact while other teams in the AFC (particularly the Ravens and Bills, whom they beat in the playoffs last year) have downgraded. It's certainly possible, and maybe even likely, for a threepeat not to happen, but the door is never going to be as wide open as it is right now. I'm excited to see what happens.

Here is the thing. The Chiefs did NOT even get to a Superbowl for 50 years prior to Mahomes. Our family has been waiting for this since Superbowl 4 and Len Dawson. Dallas has had multiple runs, Patriots, Pittsburgh, the Packers. The list goes on. Most of the people I know in The Kingdom gave respect to all those other dynasties and their MVP players. The disrespect and hate directed at Mahomes, Andy Reid, etc., is out of line. I personally think it is the Social Media influenced brutal, idiotic Z and Millennial generation immature mindset. Sportsmanship is lost. And, if you say "who cares?" Look at your life and reflect on why it sucks. Like road rage, there is an underlying problem. Then, look in the mirror and see who is responsible. But, like Michael Jordan, Mahomes uses the hate to fuel his wins. So, Trolling only helps Mahomes. On the other hand as a father and grandfather take responsibility for the rage thing. You will be happier.

It’s the gamblers fallacy. The odds of winning 3 championships in a row are very low. The odds of winning one is low, but much higher. Right now, they only need to win one. Winning this one isn’t completely independent of the outcomes of the previous two. But we’re rolling the dice once more, it oesn’t matter what happened before.

I believe they will do it because they all have that “closer” mentality. They know what it takes to get to that mountaintop, and they KNOW they can do it. They believe in each other, and they are THE most cohesive team, EVER, in the NFL. They are having FUN. They gave a generous attitude toward one another. They practice in a way that is Co-opetition instead of competition with one another. Mahomes doesn’t hold himself above the others. He will throw routes and work with receivers for as long as they need. He’s generous with his time AND knowledge, and his teammates see how much work he puts in to be the best for the team, and it inspires them to do the same. Kelce and Jones do the same. They work harder and longer than anyone and never complain. It’s not team first. It’s God, Family, Community, showing up everyday, representing not only the chiefs, but also the NFL. When the shooting happened at the parade, one young boy was separated from his parents and Coach Reid sat with him and comforted him, kept him safe before eventually helping him relocate his parents. ETHICS is what makes them strong.

Only 5 teams have had a shot at it. The 70's Steelers did it twice. Once at the beginning and once at the end of their run. The Broncos did it, but then Elway retired. The Cowboys did it and won 3 in a 4 year period. The Patriots only did it once over all those years where they made a championship run. Just getting to the point where you can have a shot at a three-peat is such a rare occurrence and so against the odds, that we have only seen 5 teams fail to three-peat in the superbowl era. Of those teams the Broncos had the shortest run because of injuries and Elway retiring. The Cowboys had a 4 year window where they could have won it every year. The Steelers had a long window where they easily could have won it more than they did and the same could be said for the Patriots. The Chiefs look like their window could be open for a very long time, but if they don't get it this year, they will probably never be in a position to try again. Only one dynasty got two bites at the apple and that was almost half a century ago.

Funny because people said the chiefs weren't going to win the superbowl last year because the offense sucked and that that was the year to beat them because they were only going to get better. Now people are saying they aren't going to 3peat because no one has done it. But apparently the Bengals are going to make it because they made it to one superbowl and lost it but the chiefs won't after winning the lost two.

Anyone betting on a KC threepeat, is about to lose some money! In very much the same way Detroits offense has more talented targets than any other NFL team,...their defense will be built the same way! In the same way it was said, that the Detroit offense is different than anyone else's because of the number of five star players,...the defense will be exactly the same way this year! This year, everyone will see that the way they are playing is obsolete! Which unknown is Patrick trying to throw to this week, because nobody but Kelce can catch? And you think that can keep up with the number of targets Goff has!? Even Detroits offensive lineman know how to catch under pressure!! You can't be that!

I get sick and tired of the way ONE team dominates year after year. I was never happier than when the Patriots finally collapsed. Hell, I still hate the Cowboys for their 1970s run, and their “America’s Team” bullshit.

Lions will never sniff a Super Bowl. The beat the Chiefs by 1 point, with a missing Jones and Kelce. That was Detroit's SB. Anyways, by picking against the Chiefs, Rich can troll them anytime they lose a game, and if the Chiefs win, he'll act like he's not surprised. Show business. Personally, I hope Dallas makes it so Showtime and Sack Nation can finally put the 'America's Team' label to rest, for good.

The conversation around the Chiefs being able to win a 3rd in a row and the way most pundits tackle it is the quintessential example of Gambler's Fallacy. The Chiefs already won 2 in a row, that's the past. The fact that they did it has no real effect on if they can or not win it again this year, and it most definitely is not a disqualifier. If you think that, in a vacuum, the Chiefs have a chance, ANY chance, of winning the SB this year then you by definition believe they can win 3 in a row. And if you think they have ZERO chance of winning this year then, well, enjoy watching the games, but giving opinions on football is maybe not your thing.

It's funny to me how selective people are when construing records. No one blinks talking about season records set in a 16 game season but broken in a 17 game season. Yet, in all the hype about the three-peat, everyone ignores the 60's Packers who won the league championship in 65 when the AFL was a separate league and there was no Super Bowl, and then won the first two Super Bowls, for three consecutive championships. Sounds like a three-peat to me
@mikegrizwold2522

Not a 3 peat because history showed that the AFL was on par with the talent of the NFL. That is why they merged in the first place. The Jets and the Chiefs went on to win Super bowls 3 and 4 thus tying the NFL after on 4 games. That packers team is still great though and technically you are right.

NFL and AFL championships played before the Super Bowl should not be seen on the same level as the Super Bowl, but rather on the same level as the conference championship, since that's what they became. So yes, the Packers threepeated twice, once during the Depression and once on the precipice of the Super Bowl era, but I liken the latter to the Dolphins' run a few years later, where they won the AFC three consecutive years and lost the first of the three Super Bowls that followed, although we don't truly know whether those Packers would've beaten those Bills.

@@dfp_01 I get it. And that's the recognized view. But before the Super Bowl era a team winning the championship for the NFL went as far as they could in the league, the highest level. I don't see why they should be penalized because they couldn't play an extra game against the then inferior AFL.

@@mikegrizwold2522 I have to disagree that the AFL was on par with the NFL in 1965. The Packers would've walked all over the AFL champion that year, as they did in 66 and 67. It wasn't until 68 that the AFL it started to amass enough talent to play at the same level as the NFL
@dfp_01
@dfp_01 2 ай бұрын
@@rtchac4185 Really? 17 of the players who played on both early Chiefs Super Bowl teams were already on the team by 1965, including Len Dawson, Buck Buchanan, Otis Taylor, Johnny Robinson, and Bobby Bell. I don't think a one or two-game sample size is enough to make the case that the AFL couldn't hack it prior to the Super Bowl era. Also in addition to AFL franchises winning 4 of the first 8 Super Bowls, when the AAFC, which was seen as an inferior league, merged with the NFL in 1950, the Browns, who'd won all 4 AAFC titles, went and won 3 of the next 6 NFL titles. As far as "penalizing" the Packers for not winning three Super Bowls in a row because the first of their three championships wasn't a Super Bowl, the NFL championship game was quite literally on a different level from the Super Bowl because there were 4 seasons when both were played. They were the last NFL team standing all three years, but there was another league of the same caliber active at the same time.

You are correct. However, I would argue that back then it was easier to win three because of fewer teams in the league, players not moving around because of free agency, etc. If someone were to do it in today's environment, it would truly be something special.

Rich Eisen has to be Ignorant or just naive that the Chiefs are getting their Games Rigged by Swiftie Roger Goodell . Goodell has hated Brady For Years .Goodell wants Mahomes and Andy Reid as GOAT QB and GOAT Head Coach by all means nessessary . Goodell wants to keep the Chiefs winning to keep that Taylor Swift Cash coming into the NFL as well. Opponents haven't even wanted to Tackle Mahomes in the Open Field in the last 2 Seasons . The Chiefs held the Most last Season . In the Post Season and SB last Season the Chiefs got called for Holding the least ? How is that possible , especially Vs a Ferocious 49ers Pass Rush ?
