I’m a recovered analog purist. Roland ACB digital is far superior to analog, even Zen Core. I’ve been using Roland gear since 1987.
@djkanyon4 ай бұрын
Same here... been there... and i was disappointed in ZenCore. I mean it's good for Phantoms and other monsters that carries a bunch of powerfull DSPs on board, but for weaker gear or vst it's just lame sometimes. But ACB is too good to be abandoned and it's good that Roland still uses it! I don't remember 1987 much... i was six then... was there any big Roland fan base back there?
@BigMuff5204 ай бұрын
@@djkanyon lol I was 17 and we were not Roland fanboys, we were just using whatever drum machines we could get. At the time, TR-808, 909, and esp 606 were cheap pawn shop scores. I couldn’t afford an EMU or DMX. We grew into loving Roland because we could obtain them. I always wanted a SP-1200 sampler or Oberhei DMX, but by the time I could afford one of those, I was accustomed to Roland gear.

@@BigMuff520 thanks man,. that's actually kinda funny... Roland doing something affordable... and thus kinda sliding in the big league... hmmm
@BigMuff5204 ай бұрын
@@djkanyon 808 and 909 were expensive on release but they were a flop and so cheap second hand until entire genres were built around them. The 707 was never cheap then. 606 was always a budget machine.

I thought about selling the T-8, but later changed my mind after realizing it is probably the most efficient piece of gear I have. Like you said, the sound is very soothing, and you can get immediate results. If you want something a bit fancier, you can always layer other sounds on top from a sampler.
@djkanyon4 ай бұрын
yup, soothing sounds kinda took me off guard, so good for dub techno and relaxing beats without harshness.... also i can't see a point of selling smol cheap gear, it's better to have one than to need it

I just picked one up this week and I'm a big fan of it. For creating simple, great sounding beats quickly, there's not much better. I sync mine via MIDI to the Roland J-6 chord synth and that combo is awesome. I give the T-8 a rating of 9.9 out of 10 so far. My only complaint (unless I missed how to do it) is that there's no way to save your drum sound settings with the pattern. So if you have a booming kick drum and snappy snare on one pattern, and then you switch to a more chill pattern that you made previously, that booming kick and snappy snare are played on the chill pattern (vs. whatever more mellow versions of those sounds you may have used when you created it). That's fine though, I can just manually set the sounds back to how they were whenever I switch patterns. The T-8 seems maybe to be more of a fun tool for live DAW-less jamming than for using to record finished tracks anyway. Either way, I can't wait to make more music with it! Great video! Thanks!
@djkanyonАй бұрын
There's no sound setting to save, it's true, also if you add distortion to bassline there's no way to keep it on or off on different patches.... Thank you for watching bro, we are all in this together!

you mean OG 303? Behringer one is basically dirt cheap now so it;s a shame not to have another one just in case
@koalemos16794 ай бұрын
@djkanyon Naw, I just use 303 as a general term. I'd never buy an OG, too expensive. The Behringer is cheap but the firmware has tons of glitches. Mine did all sorts of wrong stuff. The Donner looks good but the T9 is just the best 303 imo. It comes with FX and a drum machine too.

@djkanyon I wish more brands would do like that Roland Touch 303 and have more choices of waveforms. I can get 303ish with my Electribe 2 but the envelope is not good enough and most waves are very similar to a square or saw anyway but, "more is more" as Yingwie Malmsteen would say.
