Thanks for sharing coach. We played a team that was Pistol Wing-T and we were able to get after them on defense a little bit by reading guards. In my opinion, when a Wing-T team starts doing false pulls that really makes it tough. Good video!

Jeff Cintron My first year encountering the Wing T was my junior year of high school in Cleveland Ohio and nearby Chardon High was one of the most successful teams that run the offense because they're kids were running that offense since they came out of the womb lol But it's been a great offense I love to build a program with and I've kept the core principles no matter what my primary system has been.

Great video coach. I'd love to get your take on defending the wing-t / double wing / wishbone style offense that rely solely on deception. I have a very small HS team and I run a variation of these offenses. It's be great to hear your thoughts on how you'd defend that. Great video!!

I have had the pleasure of being grounded in Wing T as a coach, playing in the I and the. Learning Spread and Tempo. Each of these schemes have given me some great concepts and advantages on using a tool kit to set up a Defense for a long night. I love the other concepts about perfecting what works and tossing what doesn't.

Looks fairly accurate. For the coach that asked the question in first place. Understand that most teams will specialise in specific series and use another series as the way to 'protect' their main series. Belly teams will use trap/bucksweep to show a different look. Goes back to the earlier video about "being who you are and protecting who you are".

the reasons you listed are exactly why my team runs the wing-t. we won state last year and have a pretty good chance at repeating despite most of our kids having never played football until they got to high school. the one thing I'd add as an advantage is that you have very few plays where you get zero or negative yardage. it may be 3 yards and a pile of dust at times, but you almost always get something and don't put yourself in a hole behind the sticks. we've scored 135 points in our first two games with a LB converted to a QB out of necessity, so the idea that the wing-t can't be an explosive offense is BS too.

Pretty good video in my estimation. Being from south Louisiana, the first guy I thought of when you mentioned a wing-t coach who can make the kind of adjustments you mentioned is Brent Indest, coach of Catholic High of New Iberia. He’s made many deep playoff runs and has won a state title or two running the wing-t, though his most recent title came when he made adjustments to fit his offense around Ole Miss commit QB Jason Pellerin a couple of years back. This year he’s back in the championship game with more of a true wing-t offense lead by Diallo Landry at QB who is listed as a 3 star athlete by basically all recruiting sites. Side note, Indest will have to go through Louisiana coaching legend Lewis Cook of Notre Dame high school for the championship game.

I played in the wesco south 4A division in washington. Seen the wing t often. We were taught to follow the guards. It was actually fairly simple overall to defend. We would even scrimmage Bellevue every spring because we faced so many as wing t offenses and we ran a spread concept which they faced often. Bellevue mastered the wing t and won like 6 or 7 seven titles. You're right coach, they dont need the biggest lineman its a quick hit and angle offense. Discipline and reading keys is a must. After that all the motions and stuff become ineffective

I played High School in a Double Tight Wing-T Offense (Mostly Super Power, Wing Counter Trey, Wedge) but we did run a Buck Sweep Package with a Trap and Waggle. Our Waggle though wasn’t a true Waggle though. The Playside Tight End ran a Corner. The Tackle blocked down and the Guard kicked out the End so it created a natural throwing lane for the QB. Our QB though liked to treat it as a Waggle and run out sometimes and the End would sack him. However for the most part these Blocking Schemes you drew up are pretty accurate. I don’t think anyone should complain about them much. Great video coach!

@@CoachMac it's like when a coach, and one I love and respect, tells me that the spread offense is a two by two offense and formation and not a theory or concept on how we want to use all 6396 sq yards of the field to stretch the defense thin and attack empty grass. Spread offensive principles can be used in an I formation team. I know a guy who runs the Delaware Wing T and does huddle. However, they huddle 4 yards from the ball call the play and Sprint to the ball and snap it on first sound. It is so quick that it is faster than any no huddle trams I have ever seen. Partly because he doesn't worry about one of two high safeties and doesn't care what they align in. And partly because he has the next play going out as soon as they blow the whistle

Great video! You were darn good at the blocking schemes as well. In our confrence we will play 7 of 9 games against the wing t. We also run it. Two TE, two Wing attack. The best way to beat a wing t is to line head up in the interior and make your DE play flat. When we get DE flying up field it's a blessing. No need to block him. Addressing the pulling of the BSG on Waggle, it does two things. 1: It gives a visual que to the PS Inside LB. Most LBs will read the PSG and Center to Near Back. The Dive Back Guard and Center Show Dive, this is used to draw the LB up, and clear space for the Drag or Over Route. The BSG pulls for the LB who peaks to the opposite side, when they see a hole they have usually already taken a look at the Triangle to their side. So that hole to them is away and they see the Dive Back letting up and now go to step to the backside of the play trying to read the Halfback or Motion Wing depending on Formation. The Second part is the BSG logs which allows a pocket vs the BSDE. Of he crashes then he gets pinned and the QB can get wide forcing a pressure or cover decision by the OLB. If the DE Contains the aforementioned Dive Back action allows a pocket as the BSG pulls. With that layer to layer vs the $. In short it has a purpose, and that is to adjust to the BSDE/EMLOS and also create a run read by the PS ILB which creates space underneath

Which helps and for those who utilize Wing T and Zone/RPO concepts you can cause some serious havoc by showing Buck and having the BSE on a Slant, especially when they stack the box. The Zone Blocking may not be a specialty for your team, but it does work well when they key the guards and if you run any kind of zone split, it really does a number on the reads by the secondary. You don't have to outsmart the guy coaching across from you, you just have to find the one or two kids who have tendencies you can exploit
