Nah Russian military development(if it still exists) probably will not be making aircraft at all. Hell they can’t even manufacture their own “5th” gen fighter if anything Russia will probably go through another post Soviet scenario once Russia loses in Ukraine (if they don’t do anything drastic like nukes or something)

The reality is Mikoyan has been on thin ice ever since they lost the PFI contract to Sukhoi. The Mig-29 isn't even really their own design it's a descaled version of Sukhoi's aerodynamic configuration contracted to MiG to keep the design bureau alive.

Im not sure they have different roles I feel like the knowledge they had gave them that aerodynamic configuration which makes them look similar Sukhoi may have given data but I reckon the inside is completely different. The same reason all stealth aircraft look similar is because the laws of physics brings you to that conclusion.

@@Pryme. BVR (Beyond Visible Range) kills are still highly unlikely. Missiles have a fundamental problem that can't be solved with better sensors or better electronics, which makes it relatively easy for a well flown jet with a decent missile warning system to dodge them. The issue is the lack of energy. Movies usually portray air to air missiles to be firing their rocket motors the whole way from the launching aircraft to the target, but that is not the case in reality. In reality the missile fires all its fuel in a short (maybe 5 to 10 second) boost phase, then the fuel runs out and the missile glides the rest of the way purely carried by inertia. That means shooting a air to air missile at another aircraft is kind of throwing a self guiding dart at a fast moving target many miles away. That is why it is so important and advantageous when the shooting aircraft flies fast at the moment it starts the missile, to give as much additional kinetic energy to it as possible. It also means the missile needs to be very conservative with its movements to conserve what little energy it has. That explains why missiles usually have very small, stubby wings, to reduce drag and save kinetic energy. That of course has the downside that they are less maneuverable than the aircraft they get shot at. The missile does not have the energy to just follow the target like a hunting dog. It needs to fly to a rendezvous-/interception-point in the calculated path of the target. So when the target sees the missile coming it can do a lot to make things harder for it. It can dive into thicker air where the missile will use up its limited kinetic energy faster, it can hide behind terrain features and it can point its nose down to put that virtual interception point underground, making the missile crash into the ground trying to get there. There is only so much you can do to counter that. Sure, you can make the missile's computer smart enough to know that it should not try to get to a interception point that lies underground, but what can it do instead? The only thing it can do is to fly straight in sort of a waiting position till the target puts its nose up again and the interception point raises above ground again, but chances are that the missile will not have the energy to get to the target after wasting it in a waiting position. As I said, the problems the missile faces are fundamental and can't really be solved by better hardware or software. What would be needed would be a whole new rocket fuel that gives the missile much more energy without making it too heavy. The point being, if a aircraft has a good missile waning system, a good pilot and has energy, it can basically dodge missiles till it runs out of fuel. The AIM-120 AMRAAM has a statistical hit ratio of 13%. Meaning, of all the AMRAAMs that have ever been fired in anger, only 13% hit their target and it gets worse, because some of those targets that were hit were unfortunately friendly fire accidents where US F-15 accidentally shot down American and British helicopters over Iraq. And the "good" hits also all were scored against easy targets like ancient Mig-23 or downgraded export versions of the Mig-29 without good missile warning systems. So the standard mid-range air to air missile of NATO only scored a 13% hit ratio even against easy targets which did not try to evade. Not saying the Russian or Chinese missiles are better. Most likely they are even worse. The reason why I'm writing this essay here is to explain that "BVR Combat" is not only a unproven concept, but most likely does not work at all and it is a fantasy that a aircraft can reliably shoot another aircraft at 50+ miles range. With a hit ratio of 13% against easy targets, the 6 AMRAAMs a F-22 can carry in its internal weapon bay are statistically not enough to score a single hit. That is why they are working on a new missile that is smaller than the AMRAAM so the F-22 and F-35 can carry more of them. The idea is to just have more shit you can throw at the wall in the hope something sticks. Spray and pray. Of course those new, smaller missiles will have less range and that reveals the point I'm about to make: The US Airforce is giving up on the idea of BVR Combat. They accepted the truth that even in the future fighting jets will still need to dog fight and use classical air combat maneuvers from WW1 and WW2 to make the enemy bleed his energy away and force him into a position that makes it impossible for him to dodge a missile and makes him a sitting duck. For that you need to get close and start wrestling and only after you wrestled the enemy into a position of weakness and ensured that the missile can hit him reliably, you shoot at him. That means stealth is a lot less useful and will basically only be good for maybe allowing you to get closer to the enemy before he sees you and for protection from ground based air defenses. The F-22 is still a powerful and maneuverable dogfighter, even without the stealth advantage, but the F-35 is in trouble, which is why they have developed the F-15EX now as a support system specifically for the F-35, to carry missiles for it and to distract the enemy, I suppose, because the F-35 is slow and not good at dogfighting.

According to an article about the Mig-29 by a former IAF pilot: pros - immense amount of thrust from its two rd-33 engines cons - the engines were fuel guzzlers and the mig itself had limited fuel capacity so you always had to have one eye on the fuel gauge during a dogfight.

MiG actually tried to pitch MiG-29 and 35 to China. But the reason why China didn't bat an eye have to do a very similar reason as why India didn't take the MiG-35... Back in the 70s' China wanted MiG-21, which at the time is a very advanced jet. However, after getting the production license (technology transfer), the blueprints Chinese received didn't match with the knock-down kits they received. And it's also the time where Shino (Chinese) - Soviet relation soured with some help from the U.S. So, the Chinese resulted intercepting MiG-21s destinated to Vietnam near Chinese border to take apart and study them. So, you can say MiG helped China to kick start their aviation industry, pretty much like how American B-29 and C-47 kick started Soviet Bomber/transport industry.

being MIG'S air frames are historically much smaller than Sukoi's airframes, they have historically been used for defensive missions (m-35) do to their shorter ranges, so they (mig) may continue to design aircrafts with the same missions this for the next generation(s). But being that all major nations have multiple aircrafts in their invatories I doubt MIG is going anywhere... If I was Russia I would use all the different historic companies (names) of their aviation industry to form different teams within this unified aviation department/corperation, so any team who makes the best product could get a contract! You may have the companies make what they always made historically with members who can help them from other teams coming into help (especielly once they have won a tender) to finish a job to the best of its abilities... P.S. with all teh experience MIG has had with interceptors and India having a far smaller navy that Chinas and having far less offensive aircrafts (aircraft carriers - destroyers - nuclear submarines) they should try to work with the Indians on a modern interceptor wit simular dimensions (if not larger) than the J-30, and maybe an aircraft siumlar to the Tu-22 with even greater range and built to destroy aircraft carrier groups...

I'm not sure if this assessment over major players is correct. UK,Germany,Italy are going toward the eurofighter, all US branches are looking to standardise the F-35. Smaller European nations generally use either the F-16 or F-18 while Sweden uses the gripen and the rest are looking to go for the F-35. The ones using multiple fighters seem to be China and Russia. The US still places orders for super hornets and such, but this at least to me seems like a consequence of the legacy products, cost and doctrine rather than a desire to have a logistically complex air force. Of course like it was mentioned doctrine in Russia isn't the same so its still possible that they will continue MiG designs. I don't see them doing it for cost, because despite the rugged and cheap look, to my knowledge the MiG isn't cheap at all. When it was evaluated for order in Finland it was ultimately seen as the least capable and the most costly option from Rafale, F-16, F-18 and the gripen.

@@phoenix-x7 Whatever the West uses, there's a Russian version with similar capability. In fact Russia and China have already developed hypersonic scram jet technology while the US is still developing it due to a few setbacks as stated by the US Air force on March 13 this year. F/A-18 is not only a carrier based fighter as many countries like Kuwait, Australia and Malaysia uses it even though they do not own an aircraft carrier, just like the F-35 which can be used on various platforms. Also, after doing a quick research, F/A-18 does not have super cruise capability

@@phoenix-x7 Australia didn't have a single carrier, yet their main fighter force is F-18, so as Canada. So, it's all fair games in the world of air superiority. Top speed is critical especially if you consider the need of intercepting incoming missile/fighters, or just act as deterrent like how US intercept Bear/China intercept E-2 etc (The longer you take, the more information opposite side spy plane can gather). F-15 is absolute a beast compares a MiG-29, like comparing a cross-over (Small SUV) to a F-150 truck or a larger SUV. That said a Su-30 is about the same size as a B-17 bomber... carry even more load than B-17 too, similarly, can F-15E. F-18 E/F finally got a worthy competitor (MiG-35)

The Indian Navy that procured the MiG-29K jets has been really unhappy with the performance and availability of the jets. There were reports at one point that the availability of the jets was below 40%. The service interval of the engines was also much lower than what the manufacturer has stated. This finally led to the frantic search for a replacement of the MiG-29Ks. The jets finally shortlisted were the FA-18 Super Hornets and the Rafale M. The Rafale M is said to have won that contract owing to commonality to the air force's Rafale jets amongst other considerations.

I mean it’s not the overall performance but it’s maintenance issues they are facing. The reason why Indian Navy wants to buy Rafale Naval version is that because we got ourselves a new Indigenous Aircraft Carrier. The Fulcrum is actually a nasty dogfighter (when everything is working correctly lol). It's got 2 circle performance that rivals the F16 and slow speed nose authority similar to the F18. It's also got a very high thrust to weight ratio, again, akin to the Viper. It's let down, once more, similarly to Viper by its less powerful radar and low fuel stores. If MiG solves those problems with the 35 model and adds all of the upgrades it will be a formidable fighter.

Some tips for future video production on this channel that could be viral enough: TSR 2 - UK's strike recon heavy jet fighter that supposedly should sustain Mach 2.0 for over 90% of 1000 mile distance with 2000lb of internal bomb load (flying tests canceled before testing that) from times when Europe was still on top of jet engine technology using engines later re-purposed in Concorde, the possibility of improved video visibility with plenty of angry Englishman rants in the comment section... Ryan XV-5 Vertifan - one of the fastest search & rescue VTOL jetfighters reaching the flying prototype stage whose propulsion design is similar to an F-35 shaft-powered lift fan but using hot gases redirected from jet engines to power 3 fans instead... Convair Model 200 - the original VTOL supersonic jet paper design with 2 lift engines and an engine nozzle that "inspired" Soviet Yak 41/141 which likely will anger plenty of Russians who believe that the F-35 is just a copy of Yakolev's idea which in configuration with lift engines the US deemed not worthy pursuing further as Europeans testing lift engines did before. Yet another video with the added value of an active comment section for improved video visibility... T-55AD (Drozd) - Soviet Navy hi-tech 1978 T-55 model from the last days of Soviet tank technology dominance designed to enhance the combat value of amphibious troops while staying within limitations of Soviet landing ships that were equipped with laser-guided missiles for added long-range lethality and active radar-controlled hard kill ballistic protection against threats from the frontal arc, whatever they are slow missiles or slower artillery shells flying at favorable angles. Considering that at the time the US was riding mostly not very good M60 and few M103 heavy tanks, while Europe was still mainly depending on Leopard 1, Centurion with 105mm gun, and older Patton tanks, this was a surprisingly effective solution with full NBC protection for its weight... Future Combat Systems - canceled early 2000 US megaproject for digitalization and hybridization of the US Army fast response units ranging from infantry to flying unmanned vehicles that in his sheer scope and total cost was overshadowed only by the F-35 program. Some parts from its vehicle fleet like the XM360 composite smoothbore gun will likely see their future in the next Abrams tank variant while the liquid propellant on the fast-firing Crusader tracked artillery system maybe later or never. There are still promo videos on the internet that despite being over 15 years old look more like sci-fi than what we have now, especially soldiers with color AR googles that just becoming standard on the newest jet fighters and helicopters... Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche - canceled (together with the whole FCS project) stealth recon light attack helicopter gunship with automatic target recognition system utilizing millimeter wave radar input compared against internal vehicle database, foldable hidden 20mm rotary cannon for 20mm DU cancer ammo and internal bays for its missiles with optional rocket pods, this was and perhaps still is the best light attack helicopter that ever flown but was no longer deemed essential when future conflicts did not expect involvement of Soviet/Russian mechanized units... T-64 T-Rex - recent Ukrainian T-14 on the budget upgrade project utilizing existing T-64 hulls, or how to make Ukrainian tank design that entered service in the early sixties (thus the name T-64) viable on the modern battlefield by placing all 3 crewmembers in front, bottom of the turret repurpose for munition and make unmanned turret as small as possible to add armor for crew compartment. Not a bad idea that was also tested on a modified Abrams prototype and many other tanks mostly in times before unmanned turret was really viable but similarly to the Israelis which upgraded everything they had because that's what they got, even Ukraine has likely more incentive to make most from what they have instead of throwing money on less value for money efficient option of choosing entirely new systems requiring new infrastructure to support it. According to questionable sources cited on Wiki, this thing was actually tested in the real world but did not progress into service service-ready solution. While sentiment for Ukraine is on the decline, there is still a lot of interest in their stuff especially as it can serve as a model for nations around the world to make the most from their old MBTs, a steady supply of Russian trolls that will come to make fun of this project because Russian already fielding few prototypes of T-14 will provide necessary visibility for the video... I wish this channel luck, what I think could further improve views would be more technical details about various unique solutions that are often missing in your videos which due to the pace at which videos are being produced can hardly done differently as you have no time to read a book on each tech presented but perhaps teaming up with some military tech historian at the exchange of promoting his channel in your videos could further position you in the forefront in this niche subject that is so far not especially heavily populated in combination with this level of 3D graphics...

The F35 is designed for Beyond Visual Range combat using AIM 120 missiles. In close combat the F35 has sparrow heat seeking missiles and a 20 mm 500 round 100 round per second canon. The SU 35 does not have the ability to establish a radar lock on F35 except at certain very close distance. The Italian pilot was probably warned not to create an international incidet. He didn't say the last MiG, he said the last MiG fighter lol. The 41 is not a fighter jet, it's an interceptor.

Its sad that after a long line of legendary fighters like the MiG-15, 21, 25, 29, 31, the Mikoyan Gurevich will have such an ignoble end. During the Cold War, MiGs epitomized the Soviet fighter. Now, its the age of the Sukhoi.
