Khan wants to make history by winning a third term as mayor - but his confidence is shaky.
A winter of mass protests, a smear campaign in the media and a new set of voting regulations ushered in by a hostile Tory government have pushed him to rally his supporters not to take the upcoming May elections for granted.
On top of that, Khan’s trying to talk his Muslim base out of punishing him and Labour in anger over the war in Gaza, which he says would be politically naive.

I've not much respect for Sadiq Khan. But, I thought I'd watch and listen to what he has to say. As soon as he pushed for genocide Starmer I'm now even more convinced that he is no good he will never have my respect. He failed the test. He didn't unequivocally affirm that Israel is committing genocide. Imagine if he dodged the question, "was the holocaust a genocide?" that's what he did there. I don't trust genocide deniers. Also he tried to pin this genocide on netanyahu--instead of calling out the systemic--racist--issues inherent to Israel that result in these outcomes. Also, He failed the BDS test. He's a coward.

You’re absolutely right that the Conservative candidate for mayor would be MUCH worse in literally every way… she’s an absolute joke, and every time she does an interview that’s made abundantly clear! I *am* disappointed that Sadiq Khan has been so full-throated in his support for Keir Starmer, who is a nasty underhanded hypocrite, and by all signs will be a weak PM… but to an extent, I think Sadiq doesn’t have a lot of leeway here. He is a member of the Labour Party after all, and if he goes around criticising the leader of the party, you can see imagine he wouldn’t be the Labour candidate for mayor for long! I disagree with his view on BDS for the reasons the interviewer pointed out (re South Africa etc) but I at least think Sadiq reaches his view on this from a good place of believing it’s not a route to a ceasefire and lasting peace, so I can respect that. I do live in London and I will be voting for Sadiq… not without reservations though due to the wider Labour party and Keir Starmer issues. But he’s clearly the best candidate.
