Seriously why it is a line? It is just extremely weird and inefficient way of building a city. So it looks like main reason for the project attracting attention exactly same as the world islands from UAE which became a HUGE failure in every way. And while they are committing many crimes from murder to torture and having absolutely no care about people i think claiming MBS is actually doing something right in ''macro level'' is just wicked...

because Saudi's income has always been oil and will continue to be oil for the next 90 years until the oil runs out. but as far as I know, these "mega projects" and projects like neom themselves are alternatives to burning fossil fuels for energy. Since sustainability and green energy is now our main focus. Neom is a vision of a future that would run on lasting environment-friendly methods of energy and sustainable life in general. I hope this answered your question.

Brutal idea. You're basically maximising the distance between any two points in the city, making it the most inefficient it can be. Cities look the way they look for a reason. They tend to have a central core, arteries leading out of it with a hub and spoke kind of structure, and other links between regions on the periphery, and between all areas in between, even if they have to work around natural obstacles like rivers. This maximises connectivity, and minimises the distance between points, making normal cities really efficient and high functioning (though with some exceptions, but normally in these cases there are confounding factors). They'll find out very quickly why normal cities are good once they've built one in a straight line that doesn't work.

Great point. As an transport planning consultant I am suprised this has not been raised by specialists within this vid. As well as the points you mentioned the one line will be totally over saturated as all would need to use the one route to get anywhere. Any issue of the line being closed, whether through maintance or traffic accidents, would totally cripple the while line as there are no alternative routes. Completely idiotic idea, probably with zero input from any planning specialists.

This doesn't look very human-shaped. This is why planned cities so often don't work. Architects have self-important ideas that if they just built the "perfect city" then the people who live there will become perfect too. But a perfect city is one that is designed around the needs and desires of people who already exist, rather than the people having to fit themselves around the whims and desires of whoever imagined it. Humans are messy and complicated and always changing. This looks like someone got a ruler and a pen, drew a line across a map and liked the mathematical simplicity of it.

As the world towards Battery EVs & Hydrogen FCEVs its clear that the Petroleum based economy of Saudi Arabia will take a great hit. Though it doesn't means that Petroleum won't be used but its demand won't be that high as it is today. Thus "Saudi Arabia" must consider to invest in these areas:- (1) Human Resource development (2) R&D (3) Higher Education (4) Vertical Farming (5) Seawater Desalination (6) Brine Mining (7) Development of a Constitutional Monarchy (8) Nuclear Energy (PWRs, FBRs & SMRs) (9) Civilian Space Program (10) Public Rental Housing If the current "Suadi Monarchy" wants to insure long term Stability then its important to shift towards "Constitutional Monarchy" with a Parliamentary System.

Any project that is undertaken without the consent, freely given without fear or coercion, of the people will always be doomed to fail. The prince has never given a rationale for such an expensive project other than pure vanity. As far as I can tell, it will never pay for itself, and will depend on the price of oil. If the price of oil falls, it will take this project, and the prince, with it.

What's MBS "human rights" record has to do with this? We can talk about the O'hare modernisation megaproject in Chicago, without all the gang shootings and police brutality there. Stick to the topic, if we wanted to know about Khashoogi, we would have watched a differently titled video.

Khashoggi was an active Al-Qaeda member. Khashoggi family migrated from Turkey about three hundred years before. Adnan Khashoggi was the oil minister of Saudi Arabia. They are rich and have a good life in Saudi Arabia but their allegiance is with Turkey, Turkey lost one of their spy. Khashoggi was given a free column in the Washington Post to spew garbage against Saudi Arabia. Now, who killed Khashoggi and whether MBS was behind his murder is not clear. When people all over the world celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden then why these people are so sad for Khashoggi who was very close to Osama?

@@oldbatwit5102 I can understand you are saying this as clueless person but as an advice in the future don’t judge a whole society or community how they live through what you get in social media or the brain wash about specific ideas we can get in social media about other countries, I am 1 of the women in Saudi Arabia we have the full rights from the government I would say women in work environment they are treated equally and even better than men in salary and soo many things .. i am not saying this to prove to you anything to be honest I don’t care. But it meant to tell you and highlight the idea that ( how you are stereotyping about the Saudi society or it could be any other society you wil show about your person that you don’t have much knowledge and close minded, and you could be better than this, thank you .

@@oldbatwit5102 I am not expecting you to believe it and somehow I can’t blame you as well because most people are following the brain wash of social media about specific ideas towards some stuff in our world , because realistically all societies have good and bad but we can’t generalize something to a specific group of people or a country and we judge them without real experience inside that society at least, otherwise it’s racism and stereotyping and not opening ourselves truly to understand other cultures and prespectives with respect. thank you !
