its easy. The ottoman's were not ethnic cleansing the balkans, they were taxing you more. You get the age of nations and you can not draw a clear line in the sand. Some people and states are more buttheads than others and you end up with Kosovo. It would be identical in Romania since Stalin artificially created the Hungarian enclave by moving more ethnic hungarians around in the middle of nowhere just to 'encourage' the 'struggle between peoples' (totally not a nazzi thing hurhur). Obviously other than politic spinning of some hate nothing major happened as at the local level people live normally among themselves. We do not mind different people, we hate thieves and aggressors. @@lidijamarker Thanks. That's why I asked, cause haplogroups are more specific than broad description of Balkan as it is today. I2a1b-L621 is Slavic DNA group, which became part of the Balkan make-up DNA after the migration of Slavs in 6-9 AD, cause this group has not been found in ancient remains. Anyone else who falls under the haplogroups that have been found here before this time are the natives who mingled with Slavs or were Slavicized linguistically like the Illyrians, Thracians and Dacian(Gaetan). Haplogroup I2a1b-L621-Slavs: This branch is found overwhelmingly in Slavic countries. Its maximum frequencies are observed among the Slavs (Slovenes, Croats, Bosniaks, Serbs, Montenegrins and Macedonians) as well as in Bulgaria, Romania, Moldavia, western Ukraine and Belarus. It is also common to a lower extent in Albania, Greece, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and south-western Russia. I2-L621 (L147.2+). The principal determining event that allowed I2a1b-L621 to become a major Eastern European lineage was probably the Slavic migrations from the 6th to the 9th century CE. The minority of I2a1b-L621 individuals negative for L147.2 are all found around eastern Poland, Belarus and western Ukraine, suggesting that this is where this lineage survived since the Chalcolithic. The I2a1b-L147.2 subclade seems to have expanded very fast from 1900 years ago, which is concordant with the timing of the Slavic ethnogenesis, considering that it takes a few centuries before one man can have enough male descendants to start having an impact at the scale of a population. This I2-L147.2 ancestor would have such an impact on the burgeoning Early Slavic population, still small 2,300 years ago, but booming. After the Germanic tribes living in eastern Germany and Poland, like the Goths, the Vandals and the Burgundians, invaded the Roman Empire, the Slavs living further east filled the vacuum. Following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in 476, the Slavs moved in the Dinaric Alps and the Balkans. By the 9th century, the Slavs occupied all modern Slavic-speaking territories, apart from the eastern Balkans under the control of the Turkic-speaking Bulgars.'

I feel like this video missed the whole "Where did Serbians come from" question. There wasn't any mention of Slavic migration, which is important to understand in the scheme of things. Explaining the way in which Albanian language has no relatives is important to understanding that Albanians originate from that region, where as the Serbian language being Slavic and heavily related to every other slavic language is also important to understanding their migration to the region. Also, Albanians did heavily suffer under the Ottomans, our resistance to them is heavily present in our culture and music especially to northern Albanians of Malesia so I wish that was mentioned as well. Otherwise good video.

And that’s when the animosity began! I’m part Albanian, so maybe as not a full blood my opinion doesn’t carry as much weight. But I think a lot of the hate just comes from the fact that so much has happened over the last thirty years, not enough time has passed for us to heal. I was born at the end of the USSR, and vividly remember the collapse of Yugoslavia and the wars in the 90s. I remember extended family being scared, people they knew being killed, people losing their homes. I’m only 32. Albania has only been free of Hoxha for a little over a generation. Serbia really didn’t form as a real entity until the mid 2000s. Successive governments in the region were only really elected due to nationalism. Many members of the Albanian and Kosovar governments are former UCK fighters. Bosnia’s entire government is based on nationalism. Some members of Croatia’s government are thinly veiled Ustashe supporters. Serbia’s government is also ran by a nationalist. Until enough time has passed where younger generations can move on, become power players themselves, and shape their countries to focus on cooperation with their neighbors, the Balkan region will remain a powderkeg. Also just to head off any spicy replies, yes I know I’m not full Albanian, so take that how you will. No, I don’t hate Serbs, I just wish they’d take a little responsibility for what a minority did in the 90s instead of playing it off. And Kosovo is whatever it wants to be, I just want the people there to not hate or kill each other.

Korean and Vietnamese history for thousands of year has been about "survival as a people and NOT becoming Chinese" despite using Chinese characters/following confucianism, being highly influenced by China etc. etc. Same with Japan and Korea and China vs. Taiwan. Therefore today we have these petty arguments about what is food is Korean, is it 'korean new year" or "Chinese new year". Is "Korean martial arts Japanese influenced" or is "okinawan martial arts" really "Chinese influenced". Is Dokdo island Korean or Japanese? Are the Senkaku Islands Chinese/Taiwanese or Japanese. You can find nationalists fight tooth and nail about every little thing because the other side might use their political clout to officially. claim something via UNESCO or some official channels. The only people that I've personally encountered who come close to this level of pettiness in bickering are Balkans people, Turks vs. Greeks and East Asians

and even tough Russia had a longer Imperialist legacy, Japan outgrew them in maturity given current Korean peninsula status quo.

@@dsong2006 I do believe that imperialism was not a fault in itself. If the modern world devolves in a crapshoot and 1 nation evolves 500 years above the rest, would it not be fair for humanity to spread progress? Imperialism for the sake of Imperialism just to spread misery and destroy functional nations is a crime against humanity.

Ever since I was a kid, I've always thought that objectively speaking, the hatred of East Asian countries towards each other is too abnormal. I am Japanese, and I can honestly understand why people hate Japan because of its history. But Korea and China also hate each other. Unfortunately, with the exception of Mongolia, East Asia is full of hatred. It's an atmosphere where we can't even joke around like you people in the Balkans.

Listen as much as I like to keep shit civil, as an Albanian from Kosovo, My own mother grew up in the war, Serbia ordered a complete ethnic cleansing of all Albanians from Kosovo ( which was roughly 95% of the population) just because 5% of Serbian occupants did not want to leave, A lot of times I see that the racism and genocide they put us through is overlooked and ignored. And I would not have any Ill will if my life and right to exist were not threatened by them. I do not speak Serbian, I have full legal documents explaining my ethnicity and that where I was born Is not. Serbia. Short and simple. I do not understand you all have your own economic problems in Serbia start solving those and stop trying to overtake my home.

Brother, nice video. The only thing I would like to say though is from 8:00-9:00 is a little bit misleading. A few points: 1. Albanians did not immediately convert in the 1400s after the Turks invaded. Literally Skanderbeg fought the Turks during the 1400s so the idea that Serbs never forgave the Albanians for converting is nonsensical. Albanians in majority started converting after 1500 and mostly because the Turks were extra brutal due to how successful the Albanians had been in their short lived revolt. 2. You make the point that Albanians and Serbs fought Turks together in the battle of Kosovo. This is true. What you failed to mention though is when Skanderbeg went to help John Hunyadi in his fight against the Turks, he was blocked by Serb kingdom and allowsd Turks a strategic victory. This is pretty damning to the whole “Serbia mad at Albania because they switched sides” given at one point they helped the Turks. 3. Some cities in Albania NEVER stopped resisting the Turks and never converted. You really need to understand that Albanians are a lot more anti turk than you think (especially the north). Overall though, I understand the passion and connections Serbs have to Kosovo. I do not doubt the authenticity that it is at the heart of the Serbian people.
@hasooyoung3939 Жыл бұрын
actually it's *revert not convert and albanians were bribed into reversion. if they were forced into reversion then there would not be any catholic albanians left and we're still here. but treatment of catholic albanians was definitely brutal. and they were extremely impoverished as a result.

It's truly mindblowing how insensitive these kinds of videos come across when they quickly go over the latest war in the balkans. Ethnic cleansing is a horrible tragedy. Thousands murdered, hundreds of thousands displaced, thousands raped and assaulted. And we're not talking about our early early ancestors, we're talking about our fathers and mothers and uncles and aunts. All that blood spill and trauma is still fresh, yet videos like these have the audacity to tell us to forget our pasts and move on. Until Kosovo is recognized as an independent country as we truly deserve, until Serbia apologizes to us for all the inhumane war crimes they comitted, and until all war criminals face justice, there's no moving on. After all that death and terror, we are owed justice.
