Every time I go back home for a visit I see how it gets more and more depressing as time passes. If you ever make the trip down under id be happy to be your tour guide!

it's simple really.. if you own a house in vancouver, it's not a bad place to live.. but if you don't, you will have to work like a slave just to pay someone else's mortgage.. so i live here because i own my house but if i didn't, i would definately get the hell out of here.

Hot take: Vancouverites will complain about how expensive it is to live in Vancouver while driving an expensive car, going out to eat mutiple times a week (AKA "enjoying the amazing food scene of Vancouver"), going shopping every chance they get, and taking vacations abroad every year. I don't know if it's pressure from social media or the flashy lifestyles of wealthy immigrants with lambos, but way too many people in Vancouver live way above their means. Also, hot take #2: if you're a fresh grad and you turn down a 9-5 corporate job to pursue a career like "Freelance Content Creator", you can't complain about not having money. You chose "flexibility" and "free spirit" over money. That's a choice you made.

It’s hard to leave Vancouver if you grew up there because it’s still the warmest part of Canada, and it’s difficult to emigrate from Canada without specific higher level skills and money if it’s your only citizenship. On top of that, you may want or need to be around family or certain support systems.
@robocop5812 ай бұрын
So basically you're scared to move
@MrRobloMan2 ай бұрын
@ I don’t think you realize most people cannot just move legally because they simply don’t have the highly specialized skills in demand in other countries to be able to do so legally. Even getting a TN visa to work in the US only works for very specific job classifications. I would move in a heartbeat if I could.

Having been in 10 provinces in Canada, Toronto is the most open when it comes to making new friends I find. I lived there for 30 years. Vancouver, everyone just don't want to be bothered. Perhaps the area that might be a little more open is Davie street area downtown. Alcohol and food at restaurants are cheaper as well in toronto. Alcohol is taxed greatly here in BC.

To the peeps who are thinking about coming to Vancouver to for the experience. You will survive with a gig that pays $25/hr full-time (emphasis on the "survive" part) If you want to thrive, $50/hr + full-time The food is amazing. Scenery is unmatched. Plenty of nature. Between Feb - April, if the weather lines up just right, you can literally hike, ski, hit the water and hang on the beach within the same day. If you are lucky, you'll somehow mingle into the right group with good vibes and great connections.

Do you know why the air quality in Saigon, Vietnam, is much worse than in Canada? Many big corporations moved their factories to Vietnam to exploit cheap labour and resources at the expense of environmental pollution for the locals. On another note, the Vietnamese government is responsible, too, when they don't strictly demand big corporations complying with labour and environmental laws.
@lannyjr10422 ай бұрын
Vietnamese don't gives f about environment. Littering is so bad. what I most dislike is men pissing in public. It's so sad I love everything else. I found Vietnamese to be the least racist and most friendly among their Asian peers. They just need to fix environment and it would be the perfect place to retire.

Living in Vancouver for six years I was thoroughly impressed by the city and province shortly after moving there. I also realized people are super cold, very materialistic and quick to talk about you behind your back. It has a horrible job market with no big companies (a lot of US based companies in my occupation) and housing sucks. Medical services are also sub par and worst part is everyone pays into it but service is adequate at best. Happy to leave Canada for US and would never move back. Love to visit and see friends but think that would be the extent of it for me
