Wow Fred. Sorry about your woes brother. This flash burning issue is a massive problem in Africa. I suffered a similar issue with my greenhouse burning. Glad yours was a better result in the end. Keep it pushing. Its encouraging to see kin pushing farming the way you are. Your positivity is warming.

I am thankful the woman came forward. Perhaps the lesson is not just for you to learn but for you to teach. Burning the land is not restorative. Perhaps your mission is to help this woman to best manage her land so that it helps to nourish or complement yours.

the practical way is to divide the farm into ten-acre blocks. the boundaries should be clear from grass and be used as access to routes for monitoring. I managed a 240-acre farm. the division of the farm into blocks allowed us to control the fire because we knew exactly where it is and where it can not be. Cameras dont work because the fire can be started outside the farm and then it will move to the farm. The other tool is the handheld motor grass cutter. with this, you level the grass, and move it at one side. Finally, you may need the big fire extinguishes to protect buildings and equipment primarily. If you think buildings and equipment are safe, you can move them to the fire front. I estimate that you will need around 40,000 GHS including training from fire service . Fire fighting should be in the job description of every employee. Its also about time you and your workers get training on safety: fire, chemical and even armed robbery.

Fred you inspire me a lot, I think you should make clear space b/w your farm(bracheria grass) and other people's farm. clear all the grass in the space that you would make so that fire can not just get into your farm hence forth.

@@FarmingInAfricaOfficial I sincerely want to encourage you to keep moving. Sorry that the fire happened. I suggest you create a barrier by leaving, say 10ft in-between the grass field that can serve as a fire breaker anytime any day. You can do this for every 500ft or a reasonable distance. This helps to safeguard the farm from burning all at once. The part created should be kept clean to serve this purpose.

It was meant to burn 0.5 acre which means it would have taken 22 times longer, in terms of time, to burn 11 acres but they still didn't come back for it to burn 11 acres, was the fire meant to take instructions from humans even if it did burn the intended direction? Was the fire told to stop at 0.5 acres or someone was meant to be there to put it out. So many unanswered questions, take them to the police station for questioning don’t let them get away with it.
