as a kid I was always waiting for a quality high budget HD sonic game to be on ps4 as I never had a ps3. I am now 17 and can confidently say that I have faith in Sonic Team, Sonic is FINALLY BACK

IMO It's the current peak, but they can go even higher. Like, the game was great don't get it twisted but it could've been even better with some things: 1. 2 Fully 3D Acts which we haven't seen since Sonic Heroes 2. A better OST (IMO) 3. The Prime Cast for the VA's (Kirk, Black Doom and Omega are the only current VA's I like now ngl)

Completely agree! SXSG was probably the best 3D entry we've had so far, but this is far beyond how good these games can get.

That title and thumbnail had me thinking differently, thought it was another person hating on Shadow Generations just to hate 😭 Now that I know what you're on about, I 100% agree. Shadow Generations is the current peak, but we can go so much higher. The quality of Shadow Gens and the scale of Sonic Frontiers may genuinely create one the best video games of all time. I was already extremely excited for the future, but this video some how managed to increase it even more. Great video btw, editing quality is very nice. 👍🏾 8:03 Unleashed? Does Colors just not exist?! In fact, I'd argue Colors is more original than Unleashed, since the ideas were completely crafted from the ground up, and Unleashed's was based on real world locations. This isn't to know down Unleashed tho, still love both games ❤️

Thank you for your support! I appreciate you took the time to watch the video before commenting. I was going to use Colours here but the "Game Land" stages reuse level designs from older games. Colours main stages are completely original, you are correct there. While Unleashed does use real world locations, that's not using nostalgia to appeal.

The only things I don’t really like is how you can’t change the music in white space and you don’t see the bridge connecting to Sonic’s White Space, which could’ve just been something where you could run on it and if you go to far you die. They also could have Sonic’s white space visible in the distance Other than that it’s really good For the next game, have Shadow have Crush 40’s music, while Tails has an upbeat theme, Knuckles is rap and Amy has a lofi theme I wouldn’t mind Frontiers 2 to have the Frontiers boost, as long as there’s an optional upgrade for the og boost

I 100% agree. I don’t even think Sonic Team wanted this to be the peak. But I saw it as an experiment. One that went extremely well.

One thing that I hope is majorly improved in the frontiers sequel is the combat. I don't expect dmc or bayonetta, but I want combat that makes me feel engaged and doesn't feel like style with no substance. Wish they would have more moves that have sonic rolling and not punching and kicking too.

it is super clear from the quality of the games and from several interviews that the success of the movies has given the games bigger budgets and more development time, Sonic movie 3 will be even more successful than movie 2 and maybe even more than with movie 1 combined

Shadow Generations may not the peak of the franchise, but it's one of the strongest entries, and that alone is worth celebrating. After a decade of disasterpieces and a half-step in the right direction, it's refreshing to have a game that's actually good again.

What a well crafted video and i agree with many of your points! One thing I'd add is, carrying over the UI design of SXSG into the Frontiers sequel. Looking back at QTE's from Forces and Frontiers, they looked quite amateur ish since they covered up the whole screen. But with SXSG, they're not as intrusive and look more professionally designed! Its a small thing, but I'd like to see that carry forward.

always good to see more realistic, optimistic takes on shadow gens than the stupid negativity i see a lot - it has some issues(SHADOW 05 MY GOAT :sob:) but if frontiers is given the proper development cycle it deserves and the budget it needs - we may see sonic rise to heights we once thought it could never get to again.

nobody sane thinks shadow gens is the peak. people are just glad they're learning & improving. usually we get a mid game, a bad game, then a slightly better mid game, then another bad game. Mania was peak 2D, then we got Forces the bad game, Frontiers was the slightly improved mid game, this was when we were supposed to get disappointed again by getting a lazy Generations remaster & a tacked on Shadow expansion that was like 2 levels long, but they under sold it & it ended being practically a full length Shadow game. which was basically Forces but with drastically improved controls. they're getting better to the point where, people feel comfortable enough that they COULD now do a Heroes or SA1 remake & possibly do it justice. then if they do those justice, that could lead to a Solid Unleashed remaster, a solid DA2 remake & possibly an SAQ3 that actually lives up to expectations. Shadow Gens isn't perfect, but they're going in the right direction, which is all we can hope for after 25 years of mixed results. Sonic fans complain a lot, but we have to encourage them when they get it right. here's my issue... I heard Sonic Team didn't even make Shadow Generations. I heard some other Sega team did this game. makes sense that it controls so much better than usual.

@@schedark Bad level design, broken mechanical design, tons of bugs, they're shallow, dynamically-compressed, etc. But most of all they simply fail to execute Sonic's defining element: Dynamic, momentum-based platforming. 3D Sonic is mostly holding forward and navigating brainless homing attacks.
