He DID INVENT the first PRACTICAL lightbulb. He also invented other stuff like the phonograph and iron nickel rechargeable batteries for electric cars. Just because some of his inventions were conceived by other people, most of which he hired to invent for him and didn't steal, doesn't mean that he wasnt a brilliant inventor (and more importantly a brilliant businessman). Context: The biggest failure of that launch was the FTS (flight termination system) which was basically a C4 strapped to the side of it. It didn't ignite the fuel and blow it up in a quick enough time, which REALLY worried the FAA and NASA. It needs to destroy the rocket and terminate the launch within a matter of seconds. (They've since moved the location of the explosives to a more sensitive area). The actual rocket itself was becoming an older and older design that they had to get rid of it to make room for testing newer designs at the small test facility, so rather than scrapping it when it was ready to go, they launched. Getting it to actually fly out of that launch site was the main thing they were hoping for. The hydraulic system that caused the failure was already phased out on future designs since before that launch

@tejasbag5506 Thomas Edison was in a patent war with John Bishop over it in the end. NIETHER one were the original creators. They improved the filament and the vacuum inside the bulb. Edison went through 6,000 various types of materials to make a long-lasting bulb. They were at odds with each other but eventually became partners. Edison was against AC/DC current and did everything he could to show how unsafe it was. He went on a campaign of "dog killing" by traveling from town to town and electrocuting them. He would pay boys fifty cents to bring him stray dogs, and he would electrocute them in front of the townspeople. Edison eventually electrocuted a circus elephant to try and prove his point. It was a horrible grisly spectical. He was still 100% wrong about AC/DC current. Tesla is why we have AC/DC, radio,florescent light, radar,remote control, etc,etc. Tesla is not in the Smithsonian. Edison is. We were fed lies from the first grade up to this moment. Tesla was a genius. Edison was brilliant. Big difference. Edison was a greedy bastard with money. Tesla was a modest, humble, extremely kind genius and scientist who was used,exploited, and left a poor and broken man. It is typical for the United States to extract what we want and discard what we don't want.We still do it to this day.

Elon gave the chances of completing the mission a 50% chance, and they managed to complete almost half of the mission objectives and go miles up in the sky so in my eyes it was a success. having to range safety is still a laughable failure in this case. They built a shitty launchpad. With issues we've known about since the 50s. No flame trench, no dust mitigation. The lack of a flame trench damaged an otherwise fine (as in capable of taking off, I have qualms with the design approach) rocket which caused this. Elon forgot to do a basic and fairly cheap thing when building his launch facility and ate the cost. Nobody's arguing the explosion was accidental, an intentional explosion is just as bad in this case
@trekie30122

@@owensenger9728 The environmental report and prior filings will explain or at least gives a good reason for the lack of a flame trench. If you look into the actual cause of failure for the rocket (why it lost control) it was likely a software issue or a software to hardware conflict which caused the flight control system not to adjust for the out engines causing uneven thrust. The most significant failure of the system was the FTS system taking nearly 40 seconds to destroy the rocket once it was initiated.

Artemis I and/or SLS DOES build off of former programs - Starship itself (in-reference to the entire rocket) is supposed to set a completely new paradigm in re-usable rockets and superheavy cargo capacity.. that *AGAIN* is re-usable. But yes.. Artemis I did get it almost exactly right the first time! Which is impressive.

they said new technologies. the sls rocket literally uses older more reliable engines and stuff so the rocket itself may be new but most of the technology behind it isnt.
