These stainless steel protected hoses have a really small inner diameter, often less than 1/2 inch, usually about 1/4 inch or so. A good garden hose is 5/8 ID to reduce pressure drop over 100ft and keep the flow up, 3/4 inch if you wanna go overkill. The actual makeup of the stainless steel hose is a rubber hose inside and the sleeve is what prevents kinking. Most standard hoses are actually vinyl and fabric weave, they like to kink and they're somewhat stiff. A pure rubber hose with a bit of fabric weave for strength is very soft and flexible, it can kink but it has no memory so it'll never get worse over time.

I just watched your video on mixing Hydretain using hose sprayer this morning. I didn’t know the nozzle had 2 settings on it. So last night I sprayed with just water setting and of course no solution came out. So after watching the video I put it on the solution setting but yet it was not flowing. I just bought the copper bullet pocket hose, which is flexible but I guess like you said there was not enough pressure. So it’s back to the old sprayer method.

the steel hose is nice to mow over as long as it's properly stretched out. i can mow at 3.5" no problems, how ever any overlap or loop and a 60" john deere 930M wipes out this hose in about 2.5 seconds as it will be chopped into about 30 pieces of various lengths but mostly 6" or less. what's inside these flex hoses and steel hoses surgical rubber tubing, it's how they expand and shrink. the expandable rubber surgical hose reduces pressure as it requires pressure to expand, low pressure means low flow, the #1 way to reduce pressure is to install a back flow preventer as with out enough pressure the back flow preventer releases pressure out the vented holes on the spigot end so you are losing water and thus pressure out the spigot end. the giant puddle proves it. Bernulli is what you are talking about up until 4:16 Venturri creates a circular rotating evenly distributed exterior pattern swirl. Paintball Venturri bolts made from Delrin are spectacular. you can't make Venturri Swirl very well with inside or combined exterior and interior with out extreme force reduction engineering for the interior portion, you would also instantly lose the Bernulli effect the moment you did this with out that extreme force reduction engineering, as Bernulli's principle is a suction method in the vacant less force positive area in the interior. like siphoning gas, except Bernulli Principle involved vacant neutral force interior which becomes the siphon by the force positive exterior. this is how a jet engine works, the force positive area self feeds the suction/siphon of more mass intothe fluid dynamic. this is also how those so called bladeless dyson fans work. an actual blades fan provides the force positive that is directed into an open air surrounded Halo and the flow of the air from the halo exhaust creates a siphon to the neutral air behind the exhaust ports in the halo drawing that neutral air inside the halo and then acted upon by the exhausted air and carried along out of the halo.

Chicagoan here. Bought a 100% rubber Sears Craftsman hose upon the purchase of our first house in 1994. Used it until last summer when it finally failed, but judging by the failure point it almost looks like a bad gouge or gnaw pointfrom an animal (just a descriptor, I doubt my hose that stays in a hose reel was attacked by an animal). Definitely a heavy sucker to wrestle around but what a great product. Because our current house needs an additional hose out back, I've gone through 2 or 3 plastic ones that I ended up throwing away or repairing and giving to a family member.

The metal bionic hose is a 1/2 diameter hose where the water passes through. A "traditional" rubber hose is usually 5/8. The size of the hole reduces the flow or increases it. Example a 3/4in hose would have the most flow.

Obviously, I don't run both at the same time. Haven't tested flow but everything works great. My current house has a great well, terrific pressure. Pressure at the bib in the new house? No clue yet. Hey LCN, I had similar issues with my metal covered house but soon realized it wasn't as much the flow from the hose but the restriction from the hose end shutoff. Garden hose come in different diameter, common ones are 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1 inch. Most of the garden hoses you'll find in big box stores are going to be the 5/8 inch ones but the Bionic Steel hose used in the video is the 1/2 type. This is probably the main issue causing the hose end sprayer to not function properly, the small diameter does not offer enough gpm. Note that Zero-G branded hose comes in 2 different diameter types, the cheaper ones in black color are 5/8 and the green ones, also branded as Zero-G Pro, are 3/4 inch. In most cases, if the regular Zero-G hose does not work for you, almost every other hose won't either unless you upgrade to the 3/4 inch type or improve your plumbing. If all else fails, I guess there's always the battery powered backpack sprayer offered by Yard Mastery. :)

Correct. Reduced diameter hose / pipe has increased resistance, thus reducing flow and pressure. I only use 1" hoses; more expensive but provides the performance I need on my large property.

I've had the bionic hoses for 3 years from Ace Hardware. They never kink and are light weight, but if you pull on them too hard from a distance away to where your hose cart is, then you can cause the metal hose links to separate and split at the indented areas of the hose near your nozzle spray head. This bionic hose is more expensive and I would just treat them more gently than an old garden hose. Never tried fabric Zero-G's but I will soon.
@littlepoolefam32 жыл бұрын
Hi Allyn, I used to work for the USC Foundation for Cross-Connection Control & Hydraulic Research, where almost every backflow preventer goes for the USC Approval, and what is probably causing the hose to lose pressure and flow is pressure loss due to the ridges in the hose. The inside of regular garden hoses are usually smooth in side, so there is less pressure/friction loss. Jues thought I would help.

You have to look at your house plumbing. If you have a backflow preventer in the house you don't need one on the spigot. Second are the lines in the house going out the same size, the one in the back could be 1/2" and the front could be 3/4'. Time of day makes a difference. Mornings and evenings lower than during the day when people are working.

Same way a carburetor works on your mower. The back flow preventer or the hose may not be the only problem, my house as 3/4" pipe going to the front spigot while the back only has 1/2 pipe going to the spigot.
@davidhoover24462 жыл бұрын
I found this out the hard way with a lot of frustration. We have well water, so by the time you go through the house to a spigot, the flow is too low. But, if I hook my hose up directly to the pump, it works awesome. So, I just use a longer hose and hook up to the pump.

@@Thelawncarenut But the inside diameter of the metal hose is probably 75% of the ID of the rubber hose. I don't know if the zero g is the same, but the flex hoses have a tiny hose that helps with expansion pressure. I drilled mine out from the like 1/8" (4.2 gpm) to I think 7/32" (7.4 gpm). Made a huge difference!
@TheGav00712 жыл бұрын
Allyn the pressure is unaffected, its the flow which is decreased with a narrower hose. Bernoulli is mathematically expressed as P1V1 = P2V2 where 1 is in the wider portion of the sprayer and 2 is in the venturi (pinched section). or to be more technical the Energy per unit volume before = Energy per unit volume after.

Do you have a pressure reducing valve on the back line? The backflip itself should not restrict that much. On the front does that come straight off of the main before it goes in house? I would get a pressure gauge from lowes and test them pressure is the limiting factor most likely. The flex hose may be 3/8 the rubber 1/2 or 5/8 but pressure will be different to cause it. If it does have a prv you can run the screw down to increase pressure.
