Instead of adding weight training which would add size. I’ve added overcoming isometrics which increase strength without size. This seems very efficient

Yes, those isometrics will certainly help. And resistance training using the correct loading and repetition ranges will convert to athletic movement without size too. Much more here:kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJKyc2ewbs-Uh6M

I don’t understand how lifting weights, especially plyometrics translates to punching power. As your stiff and tenses when in position holding something heavy, compared to relaxed and loose when in fighting stance and only tensing upon impact.

It’s all about training to coordinate the muscle groups to fire in the same patterns needed to accelerate the striking techniques, and produce more force, more quickly. This demands the correct muscles fire at the right time, while others relax to allow efficient movement. Edson Barboza’s kicks from MMA are a by product of his plyometric training. Off course good technique, repetition and genetics play a role, but his strength and conditioning is focused on plyometrics. He is definitely one of the most explosive kickers out there and the guy don’t even focus just on striking.

Plyometrics is basically training for explosiveness. When combined with weights your training your muscles to burst and explode with greater resistance. This is different than what bodybuilders do where they train with resistance but with maximum control throughout each movement. That’s what actually makes you bulkier and slower. If you train for slower movements during weight training then your muscles will adapt to moving like that. If you train for explosiveness your muscles will be more explosive which translates to more speed in strikes.
