My experience is the other way around. I did Medicine first, and got interested in research. So afterwards I did a MSc in BioMed, and now want to do a PhD.

I am a first year in bioMed can you tell me if I can do research in neuro after doing bioMed and phD

1:29 EXACTLY! Biomed needs to get rid of the stigma of being 'The trashcan of medicine failures'. You're basically stating my whole personal motivation there. Now I like you even more! ;)

Thank you so much Atousa for taking up my question and giving such a detailed explanation. You clarified all my doubts and now I too have a clarity regarding why you choose medical school. I wish you all the very best for your medical school adventure 😇

Atousa I've been watching for a long time! I am so so glad that you got into GEM at Bham! You are going to make such a wonderful doctor and I can't wait to follow along with you on your journey! I'm starting at King's studying the 5 year undergrad course (as a grad) in September and am so excited! Best of luck! X

9:23 While it won't be for me personally, I currently have a PhD colleague who is planning to take the MCAT this year (she's a 3rd year PhD) (note that in Belgium you need a Master's before going to a PhD!), meaning she will get admission at age 26. If she completes her PhD at age 27, and does decide to go for medicine, she still has 4 years of Med School to go (considering all exemptions). PhD stipends in Belgium are (indexed to 2019) roughly 2000 Euro NET, but the 4 years of Med school afterwards would be WITHOUT any PAY. From what I've understood at my Uni you are required to have an MD+PhD degree if you wish to stay as a resident at the University Hospital (and thus combine patient care with research+teaching), and thus function as Professor as well. Most whom will work in private hospitals won't bother to go for a PhD. So I'm thinking we'll have to call you Professor Atousa in the future? ;)

Oh man, that does sound like quite a process!!! thanks for sharing this, I never knew about how things worked in Belgium. I think it's similar here about MD+PhD but I don't know if it is a formal requirement, or just that that's what most people do. And man...I laughed so much at Professor Atousa....I am SO junior that I can't even fathom that idea :') but one can only hope right? haha

here in Chile you choose which career to follow right after you finish high school (17-18 years), and that career you choose will allow you to work in a particular field. i.e. after high school, you can do a major in Medicine to be a doctor (M.D), and then take a speciality in a field that you like; or study Biochemistry, so you can follow a MSc or PhD and become a scientist. Yes, is weird haha anyway, great video atousa! keep it going!

the same in the Uk. It is just that you can also join medicine as a graduate student. Second chance for people who are more mature.
