East-West doctrinal differences grow from the ground of belief: Latin west uses Augustine's philosophy (dualistic); Orthodox Christianity founded on a personal relationship with Christ - His Person as fully Divine and Human. Body and Soul can therefore be transformed (theosis) into God-likeness thru communion with His human-Divine nature with Divine energies. Yes, Orthodox suffer: we are His Body on earth, He is our Head. See our videos on Orthodox Christianity under Judith Irene Matta.

I know something about that suffering. Catholic countries also suffered greatly under the communist rule. The largest of those was of course Poland. And yet, I don't see those 45 long years as time entirely wasted. After all, the Body of Christ always rises from the dead. And the communist period produced pope St John Paul II.

In the years of his pontificate, by the way, Saint Pope John Paul II put quite a lot of effort into bringing the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic Church closer back together.

Come to think of it, there were also Catholic countries suffering under the communist rule. The largest of which was of course Poland, the country of St John Paul II.
