I've read a few ancient books and then found 'Parallel Lives'. I am blown away by this book. It is so well written and covers so much history. I love how he includes other ancient writers in his work, even those we have lost like Judith mentions.

Plutarch's value to classic scholars is more in the doxographical (philosophical books he quotes from or refers to in his philosophical works: treatises by Greek philosophers that are lost today and that we know nothing about except from what Plutarch tells us about their content or quotes from them) than in the historical part of his works. For example: did Plutarch get hold of copies of original writings by Epicurus or did he only quote from Epicurean scholars interpreting their master's theorems ??

I think it is wonderful that commentary on Plutarch is available on KZbin. I have not read all the Lives, but I read somewhere that the Christian Church fathers prayed for Plutarch's soul, because they loved him so much. A question: How can Judith Mossman comment that the Emperor Augustus said Plutarch was a great lover of his country, when Plutarch was born around 46 CE, and the Emperor Augustus died in 14CE?

Western Civilization is being beaten and has a sword at its throat. To learn it and unapologetically teach it and keep its flame alive is duty.

Yes Josephus was their properganda machine & he did such a good job for them in his time that they favoured him with their name, back then it was an honour. Another thing i found out about the Romans was that they were implicated in was the great plague in England sry Britan back in the day when the rats were plagued with fleas. Thats where it came from , the trading on the silk road or some such.
