I diligently do study the Bible ~ the more I do, the more I find I need to study way more! The more I study, the more on fire I become for the Word. Probably because parents encouraged reading, I love to read ~ parents don't any longer value reading so don't pass it on! Bible INSTRUCTS us to study, not just read ~ it's about obedience.... I've also read 74 of RC Sproul's books, plus some Edwards, & other great books ....

The problem these days is that people don't read at all. This is something I don't see anyone addressing. Churches should be doing entire series on this very topic. How can we expect people to read their Bibles when they have no interest in reading anything at all?

How can people claim to be Christians and not bother having read the entire Bible? That's mind boggling. God left you a book that reveals who He is. You're going to let it sit there and never read it?!

I think some people feel a bit intimidated by it. We have found encouraging mature Christians to read with a younger Christian to be an approach that has helped to get more people reading.

19th century Scottish preacher Alexander Maclaren would chide his parishioners for the fancy bibles proudly displayed in their homes, in pristine condition due to being unopened.

I wonder whatever happened to that foul mouthed blasphemer who interrupted his lecture? I hope he repented!
