I spent decades working in Burwood and was fully aware of this place and its Easybeats and ACDC history walking passed it often and reflecting on what went on behind those walls. I even met girls who used to camp outside the house to see the boys. This is a tragedy and Burwood Council and the developer are clearly lying.

Of course the previous owner is not going to explain the background story to the developer they sold to, they just want their big pay day. A heritage listing on a property just kills off the potential high price. This demolition is how it rolls now, any heritage or historical value of a property means zero in Australia. Look at Skippy Park ranger Headquarters at Terry Hills as a PRIMER example. Start digging into what's going on there, a really interesting story of ownership and total neglect. But be careful it's a VERY sensitive subject now.

When a band like ACDC come along they are so successful they become an industry. The developers I have trouble with as surely they must have known the properties history. The logical thing to have done would have been to build the tower around the house. The attention and tourism it would have drawn would have been fantastic. Either the developers just shoot themselves in the foot big time or over interests were involved. Who were ACDC signed too?

I have mixed feelings. Personally, I think the fetishization of every aspect of the bands life and legacy goes a bit too far. It's just a house. Not one current member of AC/DC even live in Australia any more, so I just don't see the importance. Having said that, I can see how deeply this has affected people who are not me, and I feel sympathy for them and solidarity with them. Just because I don't really care about a thing doesn't render it irrelevant, and seeing so many people genuinely hurt by this makes me feel very strongly against the injustice they have experienced. I hope that mural stays up forever, and I hope the council install one hell of a memorial plaque in the pavement. Too little too late though it seems.

I think you would preserve a house if it had more things going for it. Example: Norman Lindsay’s historical house at Faulkenbridge: it is way out of town, not in the centre of an urban area. It’s a beautiful large house with a large beautiful garden full of his statues. But I don’t think we would preserve say Bob Hawke’s original house which is architecturally not so interesting and has nothing much else. It’s a shame Angus Young’s house was demolished but it’s a rather uninteresting Californian bungalow. Nothing musical about. You’ll just have to get over it.

I have never ever been more furious in my life when I saw saw it gone on the news. How dare they!!! And where was Burwood Council. If we were given warning i would have done anything to have prevented it being torn down. We cant get it back again, we were so proud of its history I just cant believe ita gone. Burwood Council should have preserved it as a ACDC. Museum. 😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
