We don't use the - 'e'. It's just learning. It indicates that it's something different to just learning. It's not. Anything pre-fixed to 'learning' distracts attention away from learning: mobile, virtual, blended,... Immediately we start thinking about the pre-fix first and learning second, when if you designed thoughtfully and intentionally, the pre-fix would be embedded appropriately. No, in theory teachers should make the best designers, but they don't necessarily. They learn too much outdated stuff, but often can't be convinced that they need to keep up with the very research that shows how outdated their thinking is, exactly because they think that they know everything. The best learners make the best designers. Meta-cognition, curiosity, excitement, dedication,... these are the qualities we look for. People with those qualities are sometimes teachers, but you find them everywhere. BTW: what you describe as learning design, sound very much like what instructional designers do, but very different from what LXD should do.

Thanks for your comments :) I would also love to drop the 'e' but if I did no one would find these videos! LOL. Please check out my video on LDs V IDs and you will see how I explain the difference. I see LDs and LDX as the same thing.

Teachers make the best e-learning designers; I agree.I remember a time when we needed an e-learning solution. We hired an e-learning designer (with a teaching background), but the project took forever due to the "storyboarding" phase we went through. It occurred to me that if my trainers had the skills to do the authoring themselves, we could have skipped the storyboarding phase. Those that did have the authoring skills and tools ran much faster with the project.

Do you have a video on storyboarding, Bianca? Or is that totally out of vogue these days?
