I think the back rooms are honestly still a great idea where the idea of just random liminal spaces as rooms is already really cool and scary with the idea of nostalgia and familiarity is what made it good, but I think when they added monsters is what just made it so *SNOREEE MIMIMI* stupid The Backrooms was just fine as it was before the idea of monsters because just psychologically scary kinda?
@apersoniguess_ Жыл бұрын
@detonatoringmod nah, the levels are fine- up to a point, anyways. I do think it’d be somewhat stale to be just some piss yellow room the whole time. The entities too- to an extent. Like not knowing what’s around the corner makes it interesting, that is until the entities become demigods that can track your location from miles away and warp reality and stuff. And the nostalgia stuff- i’m not gonna sugarcoat it man, the backrooms is a concept free to be interpreted by anyone as they please, it doesn’t have to follow your exact philosophy and design and the backrooms isn’t “ruined” just because you personally don’t like what other people are doing.
@apersoniguess_ Жыл бұрын
@detonatoringmod Up to the point where they add a bunch of gimmicks like being non-euclidian and entities that can warp space time and know your exact location even if they're a million miles away from you- pretty much, levels with outlandish gimmicks and overpowered entities is where I draw the line

@keepitsecret-dl1pr I guess “scary” was the wrong adjective for this. But the actual horror element of the concept shouldn’t be a direct and immediate fright, but from the whole idea that you’re potentially alone, that there **may** be something there but you’re completely in the dark about it. That’s the appeal of the backrooms imo. You yourself may not find it frightening, I don’t find it particularly scary, especially this monster-filled shitshow, but I think it’s a really neat concept that this more modern take on it utterly wastes.

As someone who wrote on the Backrooms Wiki and made things from my own imagination yeah i can kinda agree with you lmao I don't think it's inherently bad. There are people who don't like the new stuff, and there are people who eat up content as soon as it comes out. I enjoy making new things because it's just fun. It's fun to use my imagination and make something people enjoy reading, as writing is a forte of mine. Sure, none of my works are liminal by any means, but I still loved writing them. Though I will say that there is a large divide between the Wikidot (the place I wrote on) and the Fandom websites. The Wikidot is much more professional/has a higher writing quality than some of the works on Fandom. This isn't to throw shade, it's just objectively true. We write some really good things on the Wikidot, and about 80% of the articles I see people make, while not inherently liminal, still have a huge mystery factor and keep me hooked. It makes me happy when someone vocalizes what I've been thinking in a far more cogent manner than I ever could. The backrooms is great, there's a ton of great concepts that come from a simple concept and I think that simplicity is what keeps it intriguing. A lot of questions come up from the premise of "You've fallen into the backrooms.". How far does it go? Is there an end? Can I go back the way I came? Can I make myself a place to sleep? How far can I go before I start getting thirsty? Will dehydration kill me first? Or will I give up? What was that noise? Adding fifty bajillion things to that premise kinda kills the desire to think about what you would do, there's too much to process, too much to know. When you have nothing, and no idea what is happening. I feel like the urge increases to at least try to figure out what your next steps would be.

Especially not with defined paths to each. If they were instead random spaces that you would have no control ending up in, there are some areas that could work. Maybe when one no clips out of reality, they end up in the poolrooms instead, as a mild example. Or maybe just when you're getting used to the yellow rooms, and they don't have the same effect on you after several days, you're pulled away from where you are starting to feel safe. The next time you wake up, you're somewhere completely different, like a dream. Stuff like that.

I remember making a roblox game on the Backrooms before all the KP and children stuff, like around 2020 during the stagnate-like/near-falling phase. I also agree with you on the point where the Backrooms doesn’t feel liminal anymore.

What killed my interest in the back rooms for me was when they tried to make it an SCP clone and added creatures and dedicated research teams to it. Suddenly this mysterious dimension becomes less mysterious and more like “this is a place that exists, but don’t worry, it’s no longer mysterious since we know exactly everything there is to know about how these rooms work.” To simplify, I don’t mind there being multiple levels, but a catalogue of creatures and a whole dossier of research factions within these back rooms killed the concept for me. Stuff like ‘almond water’ also makes me cringe slightly because that makes the back rooms feel slightly less dangerous. If this drinkable water is able to be found all across the back rooms, you got a way to survive and thrive in this dimension that is supposed to be a special insanity inducing hellscape of inescapable, unsurvivable, yellow madness. Don’t get me started on the not scary idea of creatures with the name of “The Party Goers”. They’re the main reason I hate the idea of having hundreds of different creatures that inhabit the back rooms, why have hundreds of different species when you can only have one main threat that stalks you through the dimension. There’s also the idea that people WANT to visit this dimension and research organizations being like “Against our better judgement and our professional responsibility, we are going to give you tips and tricks on how to visit and survive the back rooms.” What government run organization willingly help people find ways to go into dangerous dimensions instead of warning them not to? This organization don’t give a crap about random people visiting this dimension despite the consequences and ramifications it could bring with it, and it makes it sound like people willingly want to visit the back rooms and never leave. Like this place is supposed a hell.

Like you said in the video “In don’t like the idea of multiple levels in the backrooms,” maybe a good middle could be instead: Having the “different levels” being their own “backroom,” where each level is their own separate area with no connection other than being an infinite maze of a liminal space. Ex. The pool rooms

I think some of the best implementation of the backrooms and liminal spaces in a game setting is through Gmod. The lonely single player aspect of the game, and the general quiet ambient atmosphere of the source engine hand itself really well to the ominous setting which the liminal spaces initially tried to capture.

I am a backrooms writer (wikidot) the backrooms still has its charm but it changed from a scary place with nightmarish creatures to a place that needs to be explored and cataloged, though this is my opinion, i like the idea of found footage but i just can watch it, it feels like the backrooms hits a low when it is every where with 800 diffrent cannons, also it is annoying when people confuse meg and async. I heavily suggest at least looking at the wikidot canon

i feel like most of the forms have their own merit the original backrooms and kane pixels stuff really play with the idea of being alone, in a place outside of reality itself, and kane pixels is also able to explore concepts like human greed with the stuff like levels, that has the same merit as scps and whatnot, a whole expansive universe where no matter who you are, you can contribute and the new backrooms with scary slides or whatever... yeah im drawin blanks on that one

Bro I agree with everything you say like, people always exaggerate things that are already good, but like, the concept of having another level at a certain point is really cool, like the first ones: the poolrooms, 188, level fun, etc. But there is a point in which people exaggerated too much with it, like, an actual exit level is a humongous number that I think its some quintillions, I preferred SO MUCH the "The end is near" level, which is a level that has a fake exit, which you would let you desperate and stuff.

I never thought they were scary, I always thought they were Intriguing. Something that I do find scary AND intriguing is the entire SCP IP which unlike The Backrooms didn't rely on one gimmic or trend to be relevant which made it pretty hard to ruin if you were deep into it. I mean yeah like The Backrooms, you get cash grabbers making the most brain dead content to feed to children in the SCP community, but not all SCP content is under the Horror Genre. So if the Horror part gets oversaturated, you still can enjoy SCP content.
@sparrowanon Жыл бұрын
SCP has become the most elaborate circlejerk ever since they let writers become unanimous. At this point you have people like the guy who wrote 049 absolutely shitting their pants over old shit. Like yeah I get it, your SCP you hamfisted into the forum so no-one else could get popular off the wiki is badly written, but you can't retconn things you wrote 10+ years ago. Now 049 is apparently a hulking brute who just kills people for fun. Do I even have to explain how that defies everything the OG lore implied? SCP was never about random-ass entities killing people 'cause fuck logic - people told outstanding stories in the same wiki you and I can visit now. But hey, you gotta have Backrooms writers peeling off the SCP wiki's back fat for bragging rights. Creating one-dimensional characters like the Shidfard Cumster, an entity in level 103383929282 only seen if you equip a condom at 6 PM. And also he kills you. And has a smiley face. He's also tall. He has no face. Oh yeah, and he's insane. Don't even get me started on his kitchen knives that he consistently shits out. SCP and The Backrooms both suffer EXTREMELY obvious telltate cliches and overall shitty cataloguing.
@TheMagnumDon Жыл бұрын
@@sparrowanon I didn't hear shit about 049's writer besides the Interview he had with Dr. Cimmerian, and even If he tried to retcon SCP-049, he really can't as SCP's canon is essentially either democratically agreed upon by the entire community or each individual can have their own canon as each story written can and will retcon a story written by someone else. And what do you mean by "unanimous" exactly?
@sparrowanon Жыл бұрын
@@TheMagnumDon Did my reply not go through? I said I disagree with retconning, which means I totally agree with 049's retconns being absurd. I believe I meant 'unanimous' as writers being in agreement with one idea or the other since as we all know, SCP has a ludicrous amount of alternative worldbuilding and conflicts in regards to the canon. No-one should be allowed to flip the narrative or fit a certain canon. That's just kinda dumb in my opinion.
