When I was a kid I liked the chance to to layovers because it meant a chance to see a different airport, plane and usually meant more snacks!

The first and only B747 I have ever flown on (D-ABVS) was recently retired. Sucks to see these iconic aircraft disappear from the skies. But airlines have their reasons for it.

I must be one of the very few who actually prefer to break my journey, and have chosen journeys with a connection over a direct flight, even when that meant an overnight stay in a hotel.

I will never love another plane as much as the 747. Sad they won't continue it.

@British Airways Boeing 747-436 yes. Always liked rear engine top wing look. Sleek looking place.

Love it how you become so engaged and lively while talking. Great video again! I remember going once and sitting in the tapering nose-section and finding it quite funny to be "arriving before the pilots" up above and behind. Can I ask about your excellent dialect. I can't really place it, well British obviously, but there is more to it.

You mean right at the nose? That sounds like fun haha. I'm from Yorkshire - so I have a Yorkshire accent😅

By far the Best ever aircraft iv had the honour to work on and fly. It was a engineer dream with just how straight forward it was with maintenance. I will miss it but never forget it. But with a fuel burn of 4.8 ton per hr (2.4 ton per wing, or 1.2ton per engine and that's the 700 model) it's not economical for todays demands
@navgeekaviation3 жыл бұрын
So happy for you! Hope you continue to work on other aircraft

I flew on Virgin Atlantic Manchester to Orlando…I flew Pretty Woman on way out and Hot Lips on the way back, I’ll never get over looking down the aisle and being mind boggled by the distance….the worlds most beautiful subsonic passenger plane without a shadow of a doubt, the 747 and Concorde are in a league of their own

Not too far from me then. I miss seeing the 747s at T2

We'll see 747s for many more years as the remaining passenger versions carry on and the freighters will be around for much longer. You have to admit that Boeing had perfect timing and excellent design work in bringing this aircraft to market over 50 years ago.

It’s a myth the hub and spoke model is going away. Vast majority of passengers traveling international still flow through hubs especially for long haul. All the major international carriers rely on their hubs. What has changed with smaller more efficient aircraft is they can profitably serve more, less demand market spokes from the hubs.

I've only flown on the 747 once. Before that I'd only ever been on 737s and A320s. But yeah, the 747 from London to New York (British Airways) was just wonderful. So much smoother than I'd ever experiences before. I suppose the bigger plane better absorbs the 'bumps'. By the way, I really enjoy these videos!

As long as we don't have a world war which unfortunately seems more and more likely, jumbos will return due to slot restrictions at LAX, SFO, MIA, JFK, LHR, CDG and throughout southeast Asia. This is the result of more and more countries entering the flight age and airports have slot space limitations at airports and air space limits surrounding them. LAX and LA airspace can handle so much traffic. The main catalyst is China, India and other southeast Asia countries having more modern airports. But a war with China and Russia would delay such a need. To from Pandemic and then a major war will hurt aviation to unbelievable levels. Also the crap going on in the US with bordering on communism would put a wrench into the return of jumbos. This world and aviation is a scary place with a fucked up US government led by fascist leftists.
