Anakin was an exception to order 66 by design. This is shown when Tups chip was malfunctioning. As tup was looking around after being detained he saw both anakin and tiplee. He saw anakin and didn't seem to do anything. But when he saw tiplee he said "kill the jedi." And attacked.

Everything that happened leading up to and after order 66 was (it seems) meticulously planned by Sidious as in he always knew Anakin would turn as let's be honest he didn't take much convincing in episode 3 to become a Sith Lord. I always thought that George Lucas missed an opportunity there as that scene could have been so much better if we saw Anakin wrestling with the decision a bit more maybe even saving Sidious but placing him under arrest by somehow convincing Mace Windu to step back, as it is he chopped off Windu's hand and then pretty much just dropped to his knees and was like "yeah ok sweet I'll join the dark side" he didn't even say "umm can I think about it, what are the benefits of joining the dark side? As my misses is pregnant so I've got to go with whoever's offering the best package" "you know do I get paid more than I do as a Jedi? How much holiday do I get? What's the pension scheme like as the Jedi already offer a pretty good one. I mean look at Yoda over 800 and still working" All things that a young father to be needs to know! 😂 if you've read this far down thanks I'm just messing about but I hope I've made you smile. Or the title of Darth Vader protects him from the order. Something that was always built in. I think maul and dooku were always meant to be included in order 66. Palatine intended to wipe the slate clean and start a new empire building the inquisitors up as purposely inferior as to never become a real threat. We know for certain that his final goal was to be an immortal ruler. Dooku and Maul were both trained in the ancient sith practice of overthrowing their master. This doesn't fit his interests.
@musunshine31

That's the simplest answer. The Separatist leaders referred to him as Lord Vader on Mustafar. Are we to believe none of them saw him and thought "why is Jedi Knight, General Anakin Skywalker here"? He was Vader to them as well. Instant Palpatine decrees him to be Darth Vader, it's gospel.

I have what might seem like a dumb question; if Order 66 was "programmed" into the Clones, and even required inhibitor chips; if they weren't just specially trained to lie, deceive, and then kill the Jedi, what about after. Even this video describes it a "a few moments out of their control", and luckily it often only took a little time to kill the unsuspecting Jedi, but why didn't the Clones loose it after? At least most didn't snap back to their senses, "what have I done!?," and killed themselves, or rebelled against the system they now knew controlled them. The Emperor still had plenty of Clones to do what was needed, until he could phase them out for Stormtroopers who WERE just taught to be cruel, lying, monsters, even though they weren't trained from birth. Even years later, some still served, remembered what they did, and didn't bat an eye. If the system wad temporary, and not just taught, or long-term control, how did they not have swathes of confused, rebelling, or mortified troops? It was one hell of a smear campaign against the Jedi, but these were the warriors right there with them, with first-hand knowledge, and a certain loyalty up till then, that apparently was real enough inhibitor chips were necessary.
@TommyWWIII
@TommyWWIII Жыл бұрын
This is a good question and I think its most easily answered by how we've seen all the Clones' reactions collectively in Legends and Canon. In canon we know now that the chips not only "inhibited" free will but also made the Clones revert to their lowest level of training. Bad Batch is a good example (SPOILERS), Wrecker, who is arguably dumber, does have remorse after the fact but more importantly his memory of everything is rather cloudy. Comparatively Crosshairs chip barely affects him because his personality was already compliant with Order 66. I think the biggest reason most Clones didn't spiral into remorseful PTSD is because the majority of the Clones were "Good Soldiers" who followed orders for the Republic. In SWBF2 501st Diaries this is reinforced; when Ayla Secura was executed the Clones said they were sad that they had to kill her so they wanted to end her quickly, which is why she was shot so many times. It's also probably arguable that many Clones would have executed Order 66 without the Chips, Jedi generals like Prong Krell weren't unique in their disregard of Clone lives. It's important to note that Dogma executed him without the assistance of his chip simply because he was a traitor to the Republic. If anything the Chips were probably just insurance for Clones like Rex who had a deep emotional connection to their Jedi.
@tristankawatsuma8962
@tristankawatsuma8962 Жыл бұрын
Maybe in Legends most clones would carry out Order 66 with no hesitation, but I find it doubtful that clones like Rex and the Bad Batch are the exception. They are certainly clone troopers that stand out, that’s true. However I feel the clone army by the point of Order 66 could be more so divided into three categories. The extreme loyal troopers, the guys in the middle, and the unique ones who disobey orders. At the start of the war, all clones would be in the first category thanks to how they were raised specifically by the Kaminoans and bounty hunters without any Jedi supervision. That changes when the Jedi get involved. Sure, Pong Krell may not be the only Jedi to either betray the Republic, treat his clone troopers badly, or do both. However Krell seems more of an extreme case. Plenty of Jedi who could be called “bad” by clone troopers probably would be the Jedi who stuck to their philosophy so much they never made any bonds. They wouldn’t disrespect clone troopers, but they would also not forge any bonds and wouldn’t go through the effort of inspiring clones to be individuals. While bad, that would be nowhere close to non-clone officers who later in the Empire treated stormtroopers as expendable. Now thanks to Jedi influence and seeing hundreds of other cultures, the clones become more independent thinking as a whole. However it is Jedi like Anakin and Ahsoka with their irregular Jedi nature that really push clones like Rex to think rebellious like. Now when Order 66 goes down, most clones are in the middle category. They’ve learned to be unique and different, but like regular people they don’t take it too far like Rex and the Bad Batch. Hence why they are so weak that they provide little resistance to the inhibitor chips and easily fall. By the time the chips deactivate, the clones would already have been Imperials for a few months to a year. Many would feel they already crossed the point of no return. To be fair to them, they would have spent the last few months or year spreading Imperial influence across the galaxy and the only people the clones really got close to were the Jedi who they wiped out. To them, there wouldn’t be any proper leaders to rise up and lead them. So what does a regular person do when they are faced with a hopeless situation? They just try to hunker down and go with the flow. Plenty of regular Imperials probably felt like this after atrocities such as Alderaan and Operation Cinder. Why fight when the odds are against you? Thus I argue that most clones were not extremely loyal to the Empire like Crosshair, who seems more of an extreme example. These clones like the rebellious clones such as Rex and Wolfe would feel horrified by their actions, but again would think that it is too late to do anything and that they may as well go with the flow. After all, it’s only when most clones are dead or very old that a galaxy-wide rebellion that can actually challenge the Empire is born. Would you say that every regular civilian in Star Wars that didn’t fight against the Empire before Yavin 4 and Endor were citizens who loved and cherished the Empire? Nope. They were just regular folks who didn’t see another option, who were not the type to take up arms and inspire others. They like most clones are the ones who need to be inspired to rise up and fight.

In legends Lucas made it so that the clone troopers were loyal and were good soldiers therefore they would follow any orders the theory was also based on why the Germans and Japanese soldiers did extreme things knowing full well it was immoral and against humanity in ww2 but they did it anyways and if you don't think the United States military would turn on its own citizens you are dangerously seriously wrong this is the one thing that Lucas actually hinted when he made the Order 66 moment is Starwars That in the end it doesn't matter what A good soldier follows orders.
@tristankawatsuma8962
@tristankawatsuma8962 Жыл бұрын
@@shadowtrooper1052 Yeah, but the circumstances, in this case, are quite different. Usually, soldiers perform atrocities on people who they don't even know. This would be random civilians or enemy prisoners of war. In this case, this was an atrocity committed on a mass level towards members of the leadership that personally led the clones in the field of battle, not sitting back at headquarters. Not to mention that most clone troopers only really got to know their Jedi leaders with most other people in the galaxy avoiding them or having little contact and understanding. Order 66 isn't really a regular war crime. If anything, Operation Cinder is far more normal of a war crime than Order 66. Honestly, when you look at the clone troopers, nothing about them could be considered normal compared to regular soldiers and regular people.

Before the inhibitor chip lore that was added...it always seemed to me the clones when executing Order 66 or any order were like Roman Soldiers were always portrayed in movies and history..as soon as they were given an order they just executed it...with no emotion...it didn't matter if they served with someone 5 minutes before..if they were suddenly ordered to kill that person they just did it. Like in Gladiator when Maximus had been a beloved general and led Rome to their greatest victories..when Commodus became emperor he ordered for Maximus's death...and the soldiers leading him out to be executed did it without question despite everything Maximus had done..and this was soon after the last battle of the war.

There's one problem. In the youngling flashback scene in Kenobi, you can actually hear "execute order 66" being played again and again on repeat in the Jedi temple. Anakin obviously wasn't targeted. So either the writers of Kenobi did a shoddy job for the 1st explanation to hold, or what's more likely is that the 2nd explanation makes perfect sense. Anakin was always immune from Order 66 by inhibitor chip programming

A few problems with what is said in the video. One: The clones were not blinded by the chip for just a few moments. We see in Bad Batch, for example, that they continue to hunt and kill Jedi long after the day of the order being issued. Indicating that once activated, the chip stayed on until removed. Two: the clones didn't need order 66 to tell them that Maul should be killed. They saw him as an enemy and a threat already.

It could be what you said about how Palpatine removed Anakin from the list or just that due to manipulation, it could be set to only attack light users of the force whereas that comic where Order 66 was flipped against the Inquisitors was a different case. Anakin was already fully corrupted by the time Mace died as he played a part in it and when he became the full-on disciple of Palpatine/Sidious, he lost all of his light side aura and only left with the dark force thus the chip did not pick him up as a proper Jedi anymore. Instead, you could even see the 501st following Anakin to the Grand Temple in Corrousant and started the murder on all the Jedis in the temple in many different media sources about Order 66. Also, like mentioned, why those Jedi younglings wern't totally targeted initially was because they're still weak in the usage of the force and thus they wern't even considered proper padawans yet which meant they're less likely to put up a fight against the Order or even the Clones and that's why most of these younglings became Inquisitors. For example, you could see Grogu watching the whole scene in horror but not targeted and probably being brought out of the hellhole by Jacosta Nu herself before she got slained too as these Clones don't see these younglings as proper Jedi yet as what the chip's emitting to them. That's why Anakin isn't targeted by his own forces because he isn't a Jedi anymore and the chip just didn't pick it up. Whereas when the Inquisitors went after the Jedi who initiated Order 66 back to the Inquisitors, the chip reactivated and attacked the Inquisitors because he basically fried the chip by overloading it with his force skill and made it unreadable into proper sequences thus the chip bounces back the lines of "Force User = Exterminate" and as these Inquisitors were force-sensitive too, the Clones that were with them instantly flipped and went after them too.

I think another thing was the HUD. They would probably kill any force sensitives except for any names that popped up on a list the empower would transmit with him saying execute order 66. Hence when the Palawan used the emperors voice to execute order 66, there was no exemption list, hence why the clones turned on Vader. Theoretically they could be given a chain of command so Vader could personally save the inquisitors if needed. But I think one clue we are looking past is how methodical the temple invasion was. They didn’t come in blasters firing, they waited until they were in position to massacre the Jedi.

I think it has to be something more subtle than this. for a few reasons, foremost targettingAnakins apprentice so soon after his fall would only risk Vader turning on Palpatine or reverting back to the light completely. We know from the Bad Batch that some clone Commanders were more resistant to order 66 than others it's likely the clone commander vharged with operation nightfall was simply resistant to order 66.

I agree that Palpatine could probably switch names when needed. Why else would the clones be okay with the massacre at the jedi temple if they were not also given order 66? And if they were, why was Vader not targeted? I'm thinking that he had it changed so the clones knew who was to be targeted or not. That way, Vader could take command and massacre the jedi temple with his clone backup.

Dooku was the one in contact with Kaminoans, as someone else said, so he would've given the list of who should be exempt from order 66 to them to put into the chips. At that point Palpatine was still pretending he would let both Dooku and Anakin survive and serve him after the war, so Dooku would've been protected from order 66 so he doesn't suspect Palpatine is planning to have Anakin kill him.

My guess is there was a built in kill list meaning the clones had dossiers built into the inhibitor chip for each person to be targeted rather than just an order to kill all "Jedi". This explains why Ashoka was still targeted despite not being a Jedi anymore and why Maul was also on the list. As for the inquisitors, that makes it complicated. there may have been a bit of programming added to take prisoners should they give up or become otherwise incapacitated.

We know in attack of the clones that Palpatine had already been grooming Anakin, so it is likely that Anakin was explicitly excluded from order 66 from the beginning or possibly it was amended after the death of Count Dooku. It is also very likely that order 66 was issued in a sequential manner. In other words, Palpatine was fully aware of which Jedi were in command and on the battle field at any give time, and would have wanted to eliminate those would have posed the greatest threat to him first, namely the members of the Jedi council. I think that once they were target (and eliminated), orders were eventually issued to eliminate any other jedi wherever they were.

I don't think it was possible that Anakin's batch of clones, the clones of the 501st weren't contacted to execute the order. They marched with him to the Jedi temple. They HAD TO BE under order 66 control, because we have seen many episodes about the 501st being very level headed and moral clones. They showed time and time again how they could feel they were doing wrong things, or how their opponent was being evil. There is no way they would have just marched into the temple to murder the Jedi, including the kids, without being under the order. I think the far better conclusion is the following. Palpatine knew about Anakin and his power even as he was born, possibly even being the ones responsible for Anakin, with his own master. His plans included turning Anakin into an ultimate Sith who would form a perfect empire with him, and eventually replace him. So obviously when the Sith duo went to order the army with the secret protocols included, they surely had Anakin as a protected individual in the purge. And most likely one of the orders was to kill Anakin, just in case things went wrong.

Isn't part of the wording for Order 66 "Until a new command structure is established" anyway? Surely if Palpatine and Vaderkin appeared before the 501st, all he needed to do was say "The Jedi Order betrayed the Republic but Anakin Skywalker remained loyal to me, thus he is no longer a Jedi. He will retain command per my orders. Execute Order 66" ... although it would be darkly funny if he did that and the clones still shot at him. As for the inquisitors, any that were already on the Dark Side could have been kept out of the Clone Army's way until after Operation Knightfall, at which point they were added to the new command structure.

Not a bad theory. Pretty good. But I wonder if Palpatine made more "Orders" besides only Order 66. Like what if there was order 72? Or 65? And one of those other orders did include Anikin if he could not be turned to the dark side. He does seem like the type of person to have multiple back up plans. Palpatine did orchestrate a galaxy wide war, where he actually had a lot of control of both sides so that no matter who won he would still be able to work with the winning side.

Actually, the Maul thing has some logic to it that isn't an addendum to Order 66. Maul was a highly dangerous opponent and had just recently been captured. In fact, most lore implies that he was only targeted because of him being considered a threat. (it should also be noted that in the original concept for the Siege of Mandalore, Order 66 is issued just as Maul is intercepted and he escapes in the ensuing chaos.) I do agree that Palpatine could theoretically change the perimeters of the order, however, in a comic book, a group of clone shock troopers fire upon Vader and the Grand Inquisitor during the hunt for the Jedi librarian under the impression they were Jedi because Fox failed to inform them that the Sith were on their side, implying that Clone Commanders had to relay information to their troops to make exceptions.

Kind of convoluted answers. Occam's razor: they didn't kill him because he was Darth Vader. Palpatine decreeing this is Darth Vader and no longer Anakin Skywalker does the trick. The separatist leaders welcomed "Lord Vader" before they were slaughtered. You're telling me they didn't recognize Jedi Knight and Clone Wars legend Anakin Skywalker? They pleaded with him as Sidious's apprentice, not a Jedi who located them. He was declared Darth Vader, and it became so to those controlled by Palpatine.

🤔 . . . Personally, I believe that those chips are pseudo-force sensitive, likely used to detect certain individuals based on wether or not they’re dark siders or not OR to detect how strong the individuals are with the force (basically the ability to mask their presence & such, primarily through the dark side). Because Maul, much like Rimuru Tempest from _That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime_ where he didn’t know how much raw power he was exuding, ‘had his fly down’, the clones proceeded in eliminating the force sensitive target. The only Jedi that were spared were #1: still alive after the initial onslaught because they tapped into the dark side & #2: hid themselves well, especially since the clones couldn’t detect the more subtle life signs & such…

This is also show where in comics when a Jedi revealed Darth Vader was Anakin the clones seemed confused cuz Anakin is a Jedi and he immediately killed all clones that knew.
