The cure remind many things.. mostly Joy Division/New Order while The Smiths are extremely original. There is no comparison whatsover to be made.

Growing up listening to both and loving both during those amazing years... i listen to morrissey more than the cure. There is no objective truth to music. Always subjective.

Let me add morrissey is more about the lyrics and cure is more about the sensation/visualization

Sure, if you enjoy wallowing in self-pity and whining about how unfair life is, then Morrissey's your guy. But if you want music with substance, depth, and real emotion, then The Cure blows that sad sack out of the water any day. And please, spare us the pseudo-philosophical nonsense about music being subjective. There are objective standards of quality, and The Cure surpasses Morrissey's moaning any day of the week. But hey, if you want to keep drowning in your melancholic mediocrity, be my guest. Just don't expect anyone with actual taste to join you.

@@demetrioskoutsoukos1692 lol you dont know anything about me. Fact is it is melodic and easy to sing to like big band music of years past. My wife says the same thing you do about both bands so maybe you should go curl up in a ball and cry. Both are great. Why cant people accept that. When i want to block out the world and get into the zone with work then morrissey does that better than love cats boodoo dooo. If i were wanting to sing along in the car then cure is better. But i work from home and need to block and focus more than i need a whimsical tune.

Newsflash: just because you use his music to drown out your miserable existence doesn't make him a musical genius. And please, spare us the sob story about needing to 'block out the world' while you work from home. Sounds more like you're just trying to justify your pathetic taste in music. But hey, if mediocre melodies and whiny vocals are what help you focus, who are we to judge? Just don't expect anyone with actual taste to take you seriously.

The Smiths literally changed my life! They made me vegan w Meat is Murder. I’m forever tied to them. I’m biased! I think Morrissey has done more good in this world than bad. I tend to NOT separate the art from the artist but Morrissey has done more good for animals than people do for people. He has never harmed a person but people harm animals all the time and are never called out. Vegans will get me. I love The Cure so much tho, no hate to them!! The Smiths’ best album is better than The Cure’s best album. That’s how I see it.

Dude, come on I know the band has a cult following and multi-decade long history. Yes, South Park creators and matt stone and trey Parker are ardent fans and heavily influenced by the label. But melodically and culturally the Smiths appeal to a far larger Subset of the population than the cure. Morrissey and Marr were just a duo that couldn’t be matched, and they created what amounted to a folk band according to Thom Yorke. Yes I’m arguing that more musicians were influenced by the smiths than the cure. Anyway peace man.

You are wrong saying that The Smiths have influenced more musicians. I don't think you know about other countries, the biggest Latin American rock bands were influenced by The Cure. On the other hand, with The Smiths there are no bands influenced by those areas. Whether you want to admit it or not, The Cure has been much more influential internationally.

Wow, did you just crawl out from under a rock? The Smiths are overrated elevator music for pretentious hipsters who think they're too cool for mainstream. The Cure, on the other hand, has depth, versatility, and a real impact on music. Morrissey and Marr might have had a moment, but Robert Smith and the crew have stood the test of time with their groundbreaking sound. Thom Yorke's opinion? Please, spare me. The fact that you think more musicians were influenced by The Smiths just shows how delusional you are. Stick to your indie coffee shop playlists and leave the real music discussions to those who actually know what they're talking about.

Oh, spare us the pretentious ramblings about The Smiths being some kind of cultural phenomenon. Newsflash: just because a couple of TV creators have a hard-on for Morrissey doesn't make them the pinnacle of musical genius. And as for Thom Yorke's opinion, who cares? The guy's as overrated as Morrissey himself. Face it, The Cure has more depth, more innovation, and a real impact on music history, unlike The Smiths, who are just a bunch of mopey twits moaning about how hard life is. But hey, if you want to keep living in your delusional Smiths bubble, go ahead. Just don't expect anyone with actual taste to take you seriously.

Thanks for the comment!! I never actually said that I don’t like Morrisey’s music, my argument here is that The Cure’s abilities to create good music is much wider than the Smiths, as The Cure has successfully been able to cross genres and decades in a way that the Smiths has been unable to.

Uh no. There's no objectively good or bad when it comes to music. It's all about what you enjoy as a person. The moment you start bringing other shit into it, it no longer becomes about music and just becomes "well X did Y and that makes them bad" and vice versa. It's fine to dislike a band, but don't go around saying it as if your word is gospel. I like both of them, they're both good bands musically.

Thanks for the comment! My argument here was NOT that the Cure is better because they sound better or are better people than the Smiths, but because, in my opinion, they have a much wider range in talent regarding what they can create than The Smiths. Both the Cure and the Smiths create great music, but from what I can tell, The Cure is able to create great music that I really don’t think the Smiths would be able to replicate.
