Maybe it’s because literally everyone else who has wielded it knew they would be ruler of Mandalore vs Din who doesn’t seem to want that or to unite the mandalorian people. It’s probably some conflict within himself that the saber senses and that’s why he has a hard time wielding it vs everyone else who laid claim to it.

The explanation is found in the trial of the darksaber with Sabine and Jarrus, it was said that holding the blade is to direct the flow of current, the wielders thoughts and energy flow into the blade, basically meaning that if the wielder is in conflict of purpose then so will the Blade. Notice Moff Gideon and Maul had no issues wielding it same with Sabine after she figured that out.

Absolutely this. Plus - there are subtle canon references to the unwieldy feel of an ignited light saber to the uninitiated. Han makes note of it when cutting open the tauntaun carcass to save luke, In ESP's novelization (based on original un edited screenplay) Its always been accepted that non force users have some issues wielding a lightsaber immediately - pretty much any light saber I seem to recall it being described as feeling very very blade heavy, but also carrying no momentum when moved, despite being heavy. Which violates physics as normal humans know it. I have some training in various martial arts weapons - if a pair of escrima sticks or a sword acted in that way... it would not only mindfuck me it would feel completely alien in my hand...

I think a common theme all throughout the Mandalorian, was that Din has always viewed himself as unworthy on some level. There were several occasions where the armorer attempted to give him his cygnet, but he was resistant to it for one reason or another, same thing with the jet pack. He seems to have trouble accepting the fact that he deserves honor and prestige, almost as if any type of symbolic award or privilege is uncomfortable to him. So to someone Who was uncomfortable just with having a family symbol, taking his “destined place as supreme ruler of all of Mandalore” must seem utterly ridiculous to him.

“Persistence without insight…” leads nowhere. Din Djarin needs the insight to wield the Dark Saber, and the insight to lead properly. That, and he must dispose of his hesitation for his new role, in order to continue. Unlike Bo Katan. The only ones who can do that for him are the Jedi themselves. And even before, or after that he must become Mandalorian once more. Maybe we will get a similar scene where instead of Luke meeting an illusion of Darth Vader, Din will meet and face an illusion of the Dark Saber’s creator himself, Tarr Vissla.

Mando: It gets heavier with each move Armorer: that is because you are fighting against the blade. There, you feel it? You are too weak to fight the dark saber Its not fighting against him using it, _he's_ fighting against the saber. The same thing happened to Sabine when training with it at first, the answer from her instructor was "energy constantly flows through the crystal. You're not fighting with a simple blade as much as you are directing a current of power. Your thoughts, your actions, they become energy. They flow through the crystal as well, and become a part of the blade." Basically: Mando has baggage

Din's Character started quite rigid following the creed and after his interactions with people in season 1 & 2 he started to be more flexible. Originally he was very anti droid but he is not as strong in his conviction as he once was. I took it to mean that when Din wields the sabre he thinks of the sabre as just a tool and doesn't truly appreciate its connection to the force, so he is just somewhat randomly moving the blade. The blade senses the force so Din needs to learn to "listen" to the sabre and follow the sabre's path of least resistance. Every other previous holder of the sabre has had a better understanding of the force and even Sabine had to be taught to listen to the sabre. I found the line about the creed and the Jedi way being completely opposite and contradictory to be very interesting and felt that it seemed important. Perhaps Din needs to find some balance between the creed and the Jedi way the same as grogu. Did anyone else feel that the ripped out droid area would be the perfect place for grogu to travel.

I love Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett but,, the 5th episode only reminded me of how much more I liked The Mandalorian than The Book Of Boba Fett (so far). Obviously the 5th episode is part of TBOBF (There has to be a more convenient way to refer to it :p) so I'm obviously not saying that I don't like the series, but it's been really slow so far.....and the thing is, even if they end up with 2 majestic awesome last episodes, it will not make up for the first 4 episodes. I might end up saying that the series is great, but I can only see myself saying, in the best case scenario, "You have to go through the first 4 episodes, but then it's going to be so worth it!".

The saber is testing Din to ensure his true ability to lead. Moff Gideon and others never had this issue, as the saber simply acted as a basic weapon. When the saber deems an owner worthy, it will test the person's suitability. Perhaps it helps to unlock hidden abilities of the saber or powers of the wielder/owner. It will interesting see how Filoni/Favreau paint this picture.

The creation of the Darksaber has always been a mystery, only that it is essentially a Broadsaber an older and more archaic version of the lightsaber, and that the origin of the crystal used is unknown but we do know that every Force-wielder resonates with their Kyber-crystal. So, I guess we can say that the Darksaber follows the same rules as the Elder Wand from the Harry Potter series, but also acts like Excalibur from Arthurian Legends, it choses the wielder but also declares the leader, I am really loving that Lightsabers are being given some kind of sentience as the crystals resonate with the Force, but I wonder if this is a trait that only the Darksaber possesses due to how unique it is.

@kasimjarkai7807 2 жыл бұрын
Archaic? it's only a thousand years old. That's not archaic by their standards. Nor is the creation of the darksaber any more of a mystery than the creation of Yoda's original lightsaber. Nor is the origin of the crystal a mystery. It's a kyber crystal that gives off a black color. Just like the yellow and purple ones.

@silviotavares771 2 жыл бұрын
you are mistaken when you say there is no explanation for this in canon. It is actually fully explained in rebels when Kanan is training Sabine. It's about feeling, the state of mind of the wilder, who has to connect with the crystal somehow, whatever it means. It is a property of the crystal. Jedi and Sith seem to have no trouble with that since they are force sensitive. Others can do it too, since the force flows trough every living being, but is not as straight forward to them.

My theory: Mando feels guilty for not living up to his own expectations - it's also my theory that if he had no problem with removing his helmet, there wouldn't be an issue. It's his doubt in himself and his beliefs that causes the problem. My bet is that he will be forced to fight to protect Grogu at some point, maybe in book of Boba, maybe in season 3. And the Dark Saber will be light again. Because it only cares that he align himself with being a Mandalorian, and self doubt is poison to any warrior, but protecting your son is as Mandalorian as it's possible to get.

Din getting the saber despite the legend of it having no meaning or value to him is what gives him a greater relevance to the plot and where he goes; just as with Luke when he was initially being trained. Luke didn’t grow up knowing about Jedis believing himself to be destined for anything. The same thing goes for Din; he understands the relevance of it but it doesn’t guide his choices or decisions. He doesn’t want a throne or anything else like that. At the same time, for no reason other than circumstances around him, he has come into possession of things which his peers were unlikely to obtain in their entire lives and was reserved for certain people in years long ago. So it’s brought him into this world that he was never a part of, somewhat reluctantly but he accepts it all the same. If they just conveniently take it from him and give it to a different character then the darksaber becomes rather pointless as far as “The Mandalorian” storyline is concerned. Gideon having it served to introduce it into the series. It didn’t make Gideon any more interesting though. Same thing with Bo-Katan. When you watch the opening sequence of Din processing some serious grieving issues, you can tell that it doesn’t go with anyone else except for him. With anyone else it’s “oh that’s neat”. With Din being “completed” as far as Mandalorians go, it would seem out of place with anyone else even more so. I didn’t even like them deconstructing the spear. It was by no means redundant. Honestly, I wouldn’t want a Jedi training him with it either. He’s not a Jedi. He’s a bounty hunter who catches a lot of attention that he doesn’t care about who is trying to strike a balance between who he has always been and what he wants in life and who he wants to be. Like in the first season after taking down the AT-ST, Grogu, etc. I like that he doesn’t care about grand destiny. He shouldn’t. And that’s why the status he obtained without trying makes him such an interesting character. It sets him apart from other Mandalorians and even some of the other main characters from the previous movies. He’s sort of like an “anti-Luke” without being a bad guy either.

Considering that the Darksaber was created by a Mandolorian who completely embraced his role and identity as a tenacious, honorable warrior who'd rather die than surrender, it only makes sense that the saber itself is just as stubborn and combative. I definitely agree with everyone saying that the Darksaber gives off Elder Wand vibes, and that the weapon feels disrespected by Din for trying to give it away. As for how he can align himself with the Darksaber, he'll probably have to sort through some emotional baggage until he sees Grogu again and commits himself to fighting for loyalty and solidarity, which is of course what he said Mandolorians practice and preach in the episode. Of course, it would probably be loyalty and solidarity to Grogu, as well as his other allies.

I dunno that him removing his helmet is the problem, the very first time in his life he did (at least that we see/know of unless he lied) was when he had to act like the storm trooper on that world with the convict so he could use the computer to find Moff (especially since finding Moff was to find Grogu) since it needed a facial scan and then the only other time was to say goodbye to Grogu and both of these things show HEAVY attachment which is HUGE for the Mandalorian code/culture. So if the Dark Saber is sentient and is all about serving the Mandalorians and there code i feel like it wouldn't mind him doing this (also as others have mentioned since other Mandalorians have removed there helmets and have had no issues using it and Din's clan rules of not removing there helmets is only 1 small clan). I feel like the conflicts he constantly faces especially since those conflicts run VERY deep as they are about his path in life and what is the best path for him to take in life (cant really get any deeper than that since pretty much that is the biggest un-answered question in probably both real life human history and Star Wars history ya know?.... Why are we here?) I hope im making some sense to someone/anyone out there LUL.

As the video and many comments state: Din is in conflict and the saber knows it. I think the saga of the Darksaber may be similar to that of excalibur (although used before by others) but this time guiding Din to be a balanced Mandalorian and ruler like it’s first wielder. Din will likely also learn force techniques from Grogu and Luke thus the saber will detect a slight force user in him and be more as one.

Its explained way back when Sabine first trained with it and it did, in fact, get heavier. The explanation was "Energy constantly flows through the crystal. You're not fighting with a simple blade as much as you are directing a current of power. Your thoughts, your actions, they become energy. They flow through the crystal as well, and become a part of the blade." It means if you've got emotional baggage youre not dealing with, that's being directed into the blade, and baggage makes things heavy

For Game Of Thrones fans that are also Star Wars fans remember how Jon Snow wanted NOTHING to do with being king he was only forced in that direction by others and still did not want to. In the end (SPOILERRRRR) he never becomes king and he is left to the original life he wanted (granted he had a shit end for a shit reason and he wasn’t really put there willingly) A life beyond the wall with the people he viewed as GOOD people the free folk. I do not think Mando is our “guy” per say. I truly think it is Boba. Clan Fett has a strong lineage. I think that it truly does not matter if someone IS from mandalore but it is about their ability to lead. Everyone who wielded it was a good leader from a point of view. Being a leader is having that ability to inspire others to go to great lengths for you. Maul did it through fear, Gideon through status/rank, Pre vizsla through inspiration of “the old ways”. I’m not saying that they are the representation of a good leader but regardless they were leaders and for there time with the dark saber they led and in some ways had small gains. So clearly the curse or weight did not effect them. Sabine was not a leader and did not want to be, Din is not a leader and does not want to be….BOBA wants to lead. It would also call back to when Bo Katan told Boba he wasn’t mandalorian. It would be quite ironic if he ends up as the wielder. Obviously, this would call for a fight between Din and Boba. This however does not mean they have to kill one or anything. This fight would also be fan service in a sense to show that Boba is the most deadly man in the galaxy still. Plus boba HAS training wielding weapons that are extensions of his body (gaffe stick) not a light saber obviously but it has similar concepts. Boba does not need creed or a badge to have honor….he honors himself and the only family he had…his father who LED the true mandalorians.

And to say Sabine Ren didn't have any problems with it isn't true either. She's just was fortunate to have Canaan there with her to teach her, and she was much further in her character Arc and was definitely a more confident mandalorian... But she didn't win it either. Until Din won it in a fight, it's rightful owner was Maul.

I remember reading an older, now considered Legends book, "The Crystal Star", a long time ago, in Middle School. Anikin Solo, the youngest of the three Solo children, was kidnapped because he was thought to be Force sensitive. I don't remember all of the story, but I am fairly certain his kidnapper had the intention of turning him to the Dark Side. I remember a scene where the kidnapper had Anikin test his sensitivity by having him try to ignite a Lightsaber, as only a Force sensitive could wield a Lightsaber. It flickered but didn't fully ignite. Your Theory is plausible to me. I never thought about it the way you describe it, but it makes total sense. Chewbacca died saving young Anikin Solo and Han, in all his, understandable, grief, immediately, turned into an alcoholic. It was a great book.

My theory: Unlike other light sabers, the blade is capable of being attuned to either the dark side or the light side- it was designed to be, as most Manadalorians are close to the dark (honor, glory, combat). The problem is Din is confused, he doesn't know where he is. he fights, but not for his own honor or glory, but rather to serve others. He knows pain, and anger, but what he wants most is peace and acceptance. he just thinks he is not worthy of it. IMO, he'll be able to wield the blade when he better understands who he is. I'll even make a prediction- In a future episode, some idiot bad guys will try and kill some kids. And Din will go full Vader on their butt :)

Maybe the weapon refusing Din is foreshadowing something else. Maybe this weapon was never meant for him but the future ruler of Mandalore. There is another interesting theory out there that in fact, Boba Fett will be the true wielder of this blade and that his series will ultimately lead him not to build a crime syndicate but to claim the throne. Din doesn't want that throne and he is more of a lone wolf character. But Boba has learned what it means to be part of a tribe and he learned something new about himself during that time with the Tusken Raiders. Maybe that time is a preparation for his true mission to reunite the Mandalorians. Of course, the condition for that to happen is that he gains a similar bond to the tribe of Mandalorians. In the end, I feel Boba is searching for something. A place where he belongs to. The crime syndicate is something temporary. He is a man who wants a purpose in life. And he set that up as a goal but I don't believe that this is the final answer.

I think it's the kyber crystal itself, not specifically the blade, that is fighting Din. And through the Force, the kyber crystal influences its various wielders subtly, explaining the struggles seen in Sabine and Din when they each initially wield it. Furthermore, I think Tarre's kyber crystal has bonded with said wielders and has developed a form of semi-sentience, preferring wielders who are confident and sure warriors, such as Tarre, Pre, Maul, and eventually Sabine, no matter their respective individual alignments.

The Armorer straight up told us what the issue is, and we’ve heard the same from the Rebels show. The Dark Saber and wielded must be on a direct flow of energy. If the wielded is unfocused, experienced serious conflict within, the energy is disrupted and cannot flow smoothly. Don Djarin, for a number of years, was a badass bounty hunter working to help his cohort/tribe of other Mandos. He wasn’t directly involved in the serious issues of the Galaxy. All of a sudden, he takes a job and meets Grogu. This completely turns his life and purpose upside down. His tribe is wiped out to 3 in total, including him. He forms a serious bond with Grogu only to have to give him up. He loses his ship. Is likely carrying guilt for taking his helmet off, TWOCE. He comes into possession of a weapon and the title it brings with it that he NEVER wanted. So when the armorer in Boba Fett episode 5 tell him that he is clearly unfocused and in conflict, it’s because it’s OBVIOUSLY TRUE!!!! The episode we all watched this week clearly sets up the direction of Mando season 3. It is going to be a season of self discovery and redemption which will set him up to be the great uniter as he’ll re-establish the planet and people group of Mandalore. The fact that he is now piloting an N-1 Starfighter should make this obvious since he can’t transport bounties on a vessel like that 🤦🏻‍♂️

So all of a sudden, the blade of a lightsaber has weight huh? Prior to Disney, the blade never had any weight. All the weight was in the hilt and that is why it was dangerous for non-force users to wield them. Luke didn't have an issue with the weight. Rey and Finn didn't have an issue with the weight. Cad Bane didn't have an issue with the weight. Hell even when people of different factions used other people's lightsabers, they didn't complain about the weight.
