It didn’t reject him. Maul used the Darksaber just fine! Like Bo Katan he only needed to use one hand to wield the blade, he could even hold both the Darksaber and his own Lightsaber at once.

You just assumed the saber rejected maul. But thats not how the DS works. Maul rejected the saber. He did not want it. He did not view himself as mandalorian, and after mandalore's destruction there is no point for maul to hold on to the DS.

Yeah. Palpatine didnt want to rule because of some symbol, but especially not because of the symbol of some old Jedi. He revered power above all, which is why he want to rule by his own power through fear. He also despised lightsabers in general as the commenter omabove says because he believes the Sith had grown powerful enough that they didnt need a lightsaber, though he still mastered all 7 forms, most likely just to spite the Jedi.

This makes sense. As a certain bard of our Galaxy once said, "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." Whatever type of crystal is in the Darksaber's componentry, we know that most if not all types (Kyber, etc.) are apparently sapient. The Darksaber's crystal knows that it is a Mandalorian, in its own way. It understands The Creed. It has a sense of identity, and therefor wants, nay, requires whomever is wielding the device to have one as well.

Very compelling explanation. The main reason I thought of, and still consider today to be a big factor, was that the dark saber was a symbol for mandalorian culture and always had been. So by acquiring the dark saber, you have a duty to rule over the mandalorian people. I have always thought that when he gave up on the mandalorians and decided to not rule over them any longer, the dark saber rejected him until a new worthy ruler may possess the blade. I love your explanation so much tho, very deeply rooted.

I don't think The Dark Saber rejected Maul. I think Maul rejected The Dark Saber. He had given up on his plans for galactic dominance and conquest after his defeat and torture by Sidius. Maul was on the run from his former master just as much as The Jedi were so he gave up that ambition and disappeared into the shadows to plot his revenge. Revenge on Kenobi for defeating him, Revenge on The Sith for abandoning him, and especially revenge on Sidius for everything The Dark Lord did to him and kept from him. Maul was no longer a Sith, he was just a man seeking revenge. Thus his statement, "Formerly Darth. Now JUST Maul." The Dark Saber was unnecessary for his revenge and provided no help in achieving it. So he abandoned The Dark Saber just like he did everything else that was useless to him.

The way the Darksaber responds to its current wielded reminds me a lot of how the Maser Sword from Zelda works. In Zelda, if the Hero’s heart has become tainted with negative emotions such as pride or wrath, the Master Sword will become heavy and unusable. If the Hero is fully pure of heart however, such as in Skyward Sword, he’ll be able to swing the blade is if it hero a light one-handed sword.

But maul was still in control of the black suns at the end of the solo movie which takes place towards the start of the empire and he wast an old hermit yet. He was still just as intimidating and radiated power as he did back before the clone wars

maul used it with zero effort in his fight with Vizla..... even the sister was able to wield it.... I think its all a mental thing and it focuses on those who are lost without purpose. AKA it wont be light as a feather unless you have a specific goal a specific purpose you are devoted to. Din is to this day still trying to understand the fill Mandalorian way. Maul lost control of it due to after the sidious duel and death of his brother broke his purpose knowing he can never defeat Sidious. The sword wont budge if you think you will lose or have no purpose in my opinion. Because Vizla wasnt force sensitive at all and we have seen episodes pick up the saber and use it with zero effort.

Legends was written by adults, for adults, and it's content is very creative, amazing, and written in great detail. It's also more violent. T-canon is made so that children could relate to Star Wars. This is why a 14 year old girl, Ahsoka Tano was created by Dave Filoni. T-canon is boring, flat, and lifeless compared to Legends. It also has less violence compared to Legends.

Meh, he didn’t really need the darksaber. Despite being cast out, he’s still Sith at heart and will naturally use a crimson blade. He just temporarily used the darksaber out of convenience. Also, I’m not buying all this lore about the darksaber. Bo Katan was able to wield the darksaber just fine despite not being the proper owner and having a cynical and resigned attitude. Furthermore, outside of enhanced beings like Grievous, non-force sensitives struggle to wield lightsabers without extensive training. As for Vizsla, the saber was in his family for generations, and he presumably had many years of training. It’s only natural for Din to struggle wielding it at first.

I would not take anything the armorer says as 100% correct. As Bo Katan said, they are religious nut jobs. They could just believe that to be the case. I think reason why it is Heavy for Din Jarin is because he hurt himself wielding it in the first fight we see him using it. If I remember correctly, he did not have a *weight issue* with the blade in that fight until after he hurt himself. And from then on he's had the weight issue. It is because, consciously or not he fears it. Heck, it works better if he is not aware of it. That way, the caution the fear is causing him to take (I.E. slower, safer and less natural swings), gets interpreted as weight to his conscious self. This would make with events in the most recent episode. I think at some point he will realize that it is his fear that is hindering himself rom using the Darksaber, and overcoming that will be a big character development moment in the show. But that's just a theory, A Film- Tv?... Streaming service theory. Thanks for reading.

I could EASILY be wrong about this, but I believe that the Darksaber simply responds to justice and truth of one's self. This, I believe, is why Pre Viszla was able to wield it due to his dedication to Mandalore and why Maul was able to wield it due to his desire for revenge. I believe that only an above-normal level of focus and dedication, as well as being true to one's self would allow one to wield the Darksaber.

Qui-gon was also his apprentice and used a single blade. Savage and Ventress were designed to be tools, a berserker and assassin. Neither was being trained as a "true" apprentice. The saberstaff allowed savage to use his overpowering strength to knock an opponents blade away easily. Ventress could use her two blades to strike the initial opening with twice as many chances. Both suited the purpose they were filling, and so were trained to fill it best. Not as an equal or soon to be equal.

The other thing that catches my attention about wielding the Darksaber is that it seems as if it helps to control your movements. As long as you don't fight it, you may be able to defeat any opponent that comes your way. It reminds me of using Kamui in Genji; Dawn Of The Samurai.

Another possible theory why it rejected Maul is because he had lost his dual to Sidious, make Sidious the rightful owner. But Sidious rejected it, so the saber could be be claimed by anyone who was not Maul, since he had proved to weak.

While I don't think you're wrong in this analysis, I think its simpler than this the Dark saber wasn't first cursed when it was given to Bo-Katan I think the curse originated when Sidious allowed Maul to keep it, as by mandolarian tradition the saber should in all rights be Palpatine's so I believe it could simply be that it no longer worked with Maul that he was forced to readopt using a Saber staff again.

I know the show kept it in to sustain continuity and all but it annoyed me he never customized his Saber further after shoving the inquisitors blade onto the remaining half of his old one, like yea the round hilt guard reminds me that that happened, but no part of me believes Maul wouldn't get absolutely pissed at having an useless bit of metal on his hilt. It would be in the way or at the very least, POSSIBLY in the way and that would be good enough reason for a smart guy like him to sand that shit down a bit. Imo.
