Well put. What people elsewhere have to understand about the gang culture in Cali (especially in SoCal) is that these gangs have to be seen in proper context. The context is seeing it from the standpoint of lineage and blood lines dang near. It’s not just something “cool” to do or be part of. This gang stuff goes rabbit hole deep. There’s ese gangs there that go back to the late 1800’s. Generations deep in that stuff so it’s very serious. Also, people outside of Cali have to understand that California is not a monolith. SoCal is very different from NorCal just as they are very different from Central Valley. Los Angeles is not the same as the Bay Area. Funny thing about the Bay is that they’re like DC in terms of not embracing the gang culture. It’s just mobs, crews, and things like that. The only ones really banging in the Bay are the Northerners and Southerners. Then Sacramento is another NorCal spot that has the gang banging since way back. California is varied in this sense.
