Why don't they use Dobermans for police and military? They seem to use Belgium Malies and German Shepherds exclusively. Just wondering cause Dobermans are my favorite breed! 😊
@DobermanPlanet8 сағат бұрын
Two main reasons... intolerance to cold and extreme difficulty changing handlers. Two things hugely importantant to police and military but not of concern or even a huge benefit for an individual owner. They get very attached to their owners (extreme loyalty) and in military and police work they often need to change handlers. They were used with great success during the battle of Guam in World War 2 though. The Japanese nicknamed them "Devil Dogs". Scary effective.

He also protects me out in the community. Add that to an incredible personality (he talks back to me when he gets mad, I swear!) and his Velcro attachment lol, this is the best dog I’ve EVER had!!

@robinrutherfordcost474812 күн бұрын
@@ricoeubanks2026I have 2 Males, full brothers, different litters. They were best buds until about the 14 month mark when the younger one thought he would try to take over. Right when COVID first happened. Actually found a vet that would neuter. There's the guy on KZbin with 3 males now. Have always preferred males in most breeds. Normally, the females are usually smarter, housetrain easier, but give me a neutered male any day. This is the first time have ever had any issues with multiple males. Normally the females like to rehash if there's a fight, whereas the males are done. They're great now, just took a while. Learned from one instructor get your dogs used to a muzzle (Hound of the Baskervilles my favorite), especially if you travel with your dogs. If anything bad happens, the first thing a vet will do is put a muzzle on so why freak them out twice - once with the muzzle and once with whatever the vet has to do. My Dad used to breed Dobes back when the first Magnum was popular so am very familiar with the breed. My older one is a therapy dog and we're doing agility foundations now. Younger Dobe does Nose Work, helps build their confidence and stimulate them mentally. Check out Baebae's training if you're interested in competing in that as her pups are already winning titles and she's also a judge so has a few short cuts which I wish I'd known about and it wouldn't have taken so long to compete. Foundation is everything. Carried my boys around in a tote bag as pups until the vet gave the ok for all 4 on the the floor. First trip from the breeder was to the local pub - Red Zeppelin fell asleep on the barstool. Zoso is the younger brother. Hope that helps.
@robinrutherfordcost474812 күн бұрын
Zeppelin still un-neutered but never humps, marks in the house, or escapes as a lot of un- neutered dogs can go up to 5 miles to find a female in heat, am also responsible as a Dobe owner, you want a great representative of the breed. Have also done Barn Hunt if you have one with a high prey drive. My boys are couch potatoes in the house though - because I insist on it. Joel Beckman has a helper Dobe. Ruby, the famous red Dobe, passed at 6 yrs old due to DCM, so do your homework. Think the owner has a black one now, not sure if it's a male or female though. Doberman planet has awesome videos on breeders, the difference between European and American, etc. Hope that helps

Glad to see you covering the history of the Doberman Pinscher. Too many people have no idea how, and why the Doberman Pinscher was created. There are reasons why it is the ultimate all-around dog breed and best personal protection dog in the world. The show ring has hurt the breeding of the Doberman, just like many other breeds, but there is no better dog than a well-bred, working Doberman Pinscher. No other breed has the Doberman's combination of brains, brawn and beauty. I'm glad to see some facts being shown to educate others about just how phenomenal the Doberman Pinscher truly is. I miss my Dobe. He was the smartest. I'd tell him to put his toys back into his basket, one by one, I would call out each you by name and he'd get it right every time. I didn't train him either. Every night we would have to cross a busy street and sometimes it would be a bit of a wait. One night he sat down to wait, and i saw this smart boy of mine look both ways until it was safe, and he got up and we started walking across. I couldn't believe it, but he kept doing it. My smart boy. There were so many things he did that just blew me away because he either learned on his own, or it was instinct. He was a real fast learner. I had no trouble teaching him anything. He was such a love. Doberman's are the best

God steered me to petfinder and there she was front page all the way in Mississippi (We live in NJ) She came from a bad situation. She is such a incredible dog. She's small. Only 61 pounds. Before we got her She had a broken leg. You would never know because she probably hits speeds of at least 30. She messes with my pittbull mix, which is nuts because my pitt is no joke. She could care less thou. I never realized how clingy these dogs are. She always has to be right next to me or on my lap.

I could not agree more! The intelligence of this perfect breed is astounding, and surpasses every other dog breed out there, in my opinion. My dobergirl learned sit, lay, and stay commands within 2 to 3 repetitions. I was completely shocked how fast she learns things, even as a senior dog. She is almost 12 now and still went into defensive mode when another dog on our walk came running at us and growling. My girl leaped in front of me so fast and before I could even fully grab the pepper spray from my side pocket. I will NEVER own any other breed. The Doberman has won my heart, and is hands down the BEST breed out there!

Dobermans had been part of my family since the day I was born... 5 decades ago. When I was a Teenager I had a Dobbie male named "Ponky"... He has to be the smartest dog that ever lived!! He was part of the gang! He accompanied us wherever we went. and we don't know how he did it, but he managed to figure out how to start my father's truck, (an 80's Dodge Ram) use his paw to put it in drive and go. He stole my father's truck 3 times and the last time he did it in the middle of the Town while my father was at the bank. Ponky managed to drive 2 streets by himself until he crossed an avenue and collided with another car. The other driver and the witnesses were in shock trying to explain to the police that they had been hit by a truck driven by a Doberman. 😂 The insurance covered the expenses but my father promised to never leave the truck with the keys in it because every time he had the opportunity, "Ponky" would look for a way to get into it and take it away.

The most amazing thing i've noticed about Dobes is that they're virtually silent. I was pushed down by one but not attacked, it was a neighbour's dog that I felt sorry for because they left him alone in a hot backyard. I had a rescue dog that was part yellow lab and part some kind of terrier I think. He was about 70 pounds and had front legs that were like arms. He had a very strong almost pit bull like head with the most intelligent eyes. He was so smart it was scary. He simply dominated all other canines that he came across using his intelligence and dominant personality - not to mention strength. I named him Chester and he was with me for 7 years. He was neutered unfortunately because I would have loved to have let him breed and get a pup. He was that good. My current pup is an old girl - also a rescue that I got when she was 1 year old. She's a black lab mix. What a wonderful pup. She has been a great companion. She's also very smart. I think mixed breeds are the best personally.

Love my dobies. They are absolutely my family's soul dogs. We had sheppards, rotties, Labs (love labs too but the hair was way too much for an indoor dog :), lots of cleaning). We even had a Chihuahua and I trained her just as I did my dobies and she was not a yapper but growing up with rotti she thought she was one too (Napoleon complex). But dobies, although sometimes too annoying (bathroom privacy lost), are the best of all these breeds. Friendly, smart, lap dogs-very big and heavy lapdogs. Always scanning during walks and act accordingly. Never wonders off more than 10ft and always circling back and checking out that you are safe. And many, many more terrific traits.

I really relate to this comment. Whenever I walk my Doby off lead at night by the river, she' always within visual distance of me even though I've given her the "free" command that she understands perfect. My Staffy on the on the other hand disappears for an hour as soon as I give him the same command :-)

4:53 On the instinct component, allow me to share quick story to substantiate the observation. When my Doby (also named Doby :) was about 18 months old, I took her to a big festival with lots of families, food stands, music and rides. Doby was perfectly calm and enjoying herself for more than an hour. Whilst talking to friends, Doby suddenly started barking aggressively at one man out of a crowd of thousands. When I turned around to see what was going on, I saw the very VERY suspicious individual (who to be blunt, looked like a paedophile) walking in our direction. The man reacted as if his cover was blown, frantically looked at Doby and then literally ran away even though Doby was on lead. This was a truly amazing moment with my beautiful Doby. She somehow knew a danger was approaching. Some say it's because dogs pick up their owner's energy or vibe, thus react accordingly. This was simply not the case as my back was turned away from the suspect and I had no idea there was any threat or danger. Doby somehow knew this guy was a predator and reacted accordingly. Concurrently, the predator knew he was exposed and fled accordingly. This was the only person out of a crowd of thousands that she showed any aggression towards. TRULY AMAZING!!! Doby's know. DO NOT MESS WITH A DOBERMAN's OWNER OR FAMILY. IT WILL NOT END WELL FOR YOU!

Doberman, Standard schnauzer, Giant Schnauzer all top tier dogs, all pinschers, I'd go with any of the three. Dobie for agility, GS for strength, Standard Schnauzer for a blend of both in a more compact package with an attitude and teeth twice as large as the other two LOL

I had a Doberman curl up in my lap. The owner was ecstatically flailing his arms. He couldn’t believe his dog that bites everyone curled up with me.

There was a homeless guy I remember as a kid who who owned a Doberman, when he used to sleep on the park bench the Doberman would just keep circling around the bench sometimes barking at passers by but never ever leaving his side

I love Dobermans. I really want one. However I am a 77 year old woman so I don't think I could give this amazing animal the level of exercise it needs and deserves.😢

Katie is my third, two boys a few years apart and then our now beloved girl. The differences are between male and female is like daylight and dark though both are grand! I love both male and female but I have to say Katie is so much more protective than the boys I had. Where they were distracted our Katie never is even at 11 years old. She is so much more guarded than the boys I had. The problem with her unfortunately is that we adopted her from the humane society and she was very abused and already 7 years old. Because of her abuse she cannot tolerate children or other dogs. I’m saddened by this because we were mislead by the organization of which we acquired her but still we love her dearly and would never distrust her or desert her. She has stolen our hearts and she will be with us til the last tick of her heart. Do consider your choice of male or female but do also consider if you adopt one that’s been abused how it might affect your life in the coming years. But in retrospect, they are truly a magnificent breed! I do love them! They are a superior breed!!❤

Well our Doberman is a couch potato and pretty Timid and easily spooked. He is agile and fast and i guess Fast But he is very domesticated and friendly with other dogs and humans. He does have a guarding instinct especially for my Dad(he is extremely attached to my dad like he treats my dad like a god. And my dad is basically his reason for existence) but i would say he is the perfect family dog who is friendly with almost everyone and dogs(but he hates cats and chases them like crazy) he is a mix of European and American Doberman (father american and mother European) he is the runt of the litter and short compared to other Doberman but he is still very healthy. Like our Vet said not to get him neutered and breed him because of his health(which because of my dad and my mom they give him very protein and other nutrients heavy home cooked meal). He has breed twice both litters were very healthy (one litter was of 10 puppies and other 8 puppies). We don't regret not getting him neutered and will never get him neutered. But there are some problems because of that he uncontrollable humps female dogs especially when they are in heat. But overall he is the best dog and family we have. I heavily recommend everyone to get a Doberman for a family dog. But i must say you have to put lot of effort in training them and exercising them but that means you too get excersize. And it loves your family and protects them

Just watched the latest video and loved it. Someone should take on the challenge of getting the Doberman off all of the forbidden breeds lists for where you choose to live. If you google dogs that are responsible for harming a human, they are below Labrador retrievers for gosh sakes. Labs aren't on a restricted list anywhere and they are responsible for more deaths than Dobies...I wish I knew where this perception started. Oh well, that's my rant. Love your chanel!

Honestly it depends on the line unless you get a working line Doberman the chance of them having the drive to do protection is pretty low. That’s with any dog but it’s a more common to find dogs like malinois who from any line working or show have the drive to do bitework and protection
@juliepowell257211 күн бұрын
I've had border collies, a dobe and a malinois and they are all amazing dogs. The dobe is problem solving smart where the BC is do as you are told smart. My mali was wonderful and I rank him as smoochie as a dobe - but the fur!!!! My next dog will be a dobe.

I have to disagree on this. When you go to Schutzhund, French Ring Sport etc or police/military working dogs you will rarely see Dobermans and there has to be a reason for this. While the Shepherds and Malinois were originally herding dogs it plays no part in their protection/defense capabilities.

@6:35 I have seen many examples of the dog “talking buttons” in use which, as a dog trainer, is intriguing to me. I’m going to experiment with the buttons in the future. The Doberman is undoubtedly a highly intelligent breed and “Velcro dogs” is certainly an applicable term. I will however say that I wouldn’t recommend the European working line dogs for the first time dog owner. For the more inexperienced dog owners, the American lines are typically a better introduction to the breed. There’s of course always exceptions and variables.

no off switch, won't have the sense of humor of a doberman. Beautiful dogs, but a LOT of dog, all day, every day. Doberman, a good one anyway, is a chameleon that will try to vibrate at the same pitch as their owners because they were bred for people, not herding animals.

@guycalabrese404012 күн бұрын
Btw - modern day Dobermanns are way different from the original ones since the put Greyhound in the mix to make it look more elegant. Greyhounds have a crazy hunting drive and this is why Dobermanns just speed off when seeing a rabbit or a cat etc...
@chrisgraham290411 күн бұрын
All dog breeds evolved from the wolf. You can still see the wolf in several dog breeds, but in others it has virtually disappeared. The wolf still remains prominent in the Doberman. An animal that is so loyal to the pack (you and your family) and thrives within its' place within the pack.

I have dogs all my life but now have my first doberman. Now I know why everyone who has a doberman says that is the only breed they ever want. They are so personable, smart, energetic, and protective. But to be clear they ARE NOT for everyone, so many get surrendered because new owners don't understand the breed .

About a year ago I lost my Kassie who was 11 years old. What John is saying is very true. I got another dog a brown lab she is just phenomenal from a rescue place. But I cannot do as much With her as they did with my old kassie.. I can leave her off leash And she go everywhere including the car etc What turn me off Mainly Was the lack of lifespan is hitting these dogs

Anyone here choose a rottweiler over a doberman because the rottie tends to be more calmer and less excercise then the dobie?
@robinrutherfordcost474812 күн бұрын
My stepdaughter, right next door, has a Rottweiler and the brother to our 2 male Dobes. Rottweiler has more hair, but being a female Rottweiler, when she barks, you know there's something to bark at and she means business. She's definitely more serious. She's 6 weeks older than my older Dobe, but had joint issues even when younger so definitely less energy. My Dobes are couch potatoes in the house because I insist on it, but before selecting our breeder I did speak to one Dobe breeder who laughed and said yeah, like their is such a thing as a Dobe couch potato. Needless to say, we didn't go with that breeder. Hope that helps.
