I have another idea. What about changing up to 28 Teams? 7 groups, the best two in every group advance. That‘ll be 14 Teams. To get to 16, the 2 best of the 7 third placed nations also advance. This would essentially increase the pressure in the last games of the group stage but its Not that Easy to get thrown out with 4 points and a good goal difference. Also, 28 is Not that much and i like the concept of 2 third placed to qualify for the knockouts. Meaning you have a Chance, but you cant be sure and just draw your last game on purpose. What do you think?
@TheBluverdeАй бұрын
Exactly, if only the first and second placed teams of each group qualify for the knockout stage then some third placed teams with 4, 5 or even 6 points will be eliminated while at the same time second placed teams with only 3 or even 2 points will get trough.
@Obi_Swagg_KenobiАй бұрын
@@TheBluverdeit's impossible to advance with 2 points/ and there can't be a third placed team with 5 or 6 points. also historically it has only happened once in every tournament that a third placed team has 4 points (1 in 8 groups). and only in 1 or 2 groups every tournament is there a second place with 3 points. that means that the format would work because the 3rd place (4 points) would advance because they are the best of the rest. and this would almost always work because it is almost impossible to get less points in second place than in 3rd (different groups). so only the best teams would advance (even the 3rd place with more points than some teams in groups)

@@Obi_Swagg_Kenobi Hypothetically, Team A wins 1-0 against B, 2-0 against C, and 3-0 against D. The other teams only draw 0-0. I hate the current 3rd place rule. In my opinion the strongest teams not making it to the top of the table are the ones with the most points compared to their group‘s first and second placed countries. Ukraine got kicked out with four points whereas Slovenia and Hungary went on with less points. Compared to their group leaders Ukraine is overall the stronger than both teams mentioned before with having managed to get the same amount of points. But a rule acknowledging that might be too complicated to understand or too mathematical for some people even though it would be a simple ratio calculation

In my opinion, the Euro and World Cup must change to the new "Swiss model" UCL format. With just 1 league stage instead of 8 groups, it would be fairer because that would prevent for example Ukraine with 4 points getting knocked out while Slovenia with 3 points going to the knockouts. They could implement 3 league stage matches for each team and no play-offs, just the top 16 going through. Then it's the same format. Probably didn't do the maths right but it's a good idea imo (I'll probably get roasted for this)
