I acquired mine in a more somber way. My son died in a hit and run on his 2007 FZ1 in September of last year. It has sat at the tow yard since, till this weekend. I am finding a calling to my healing process with him (his spirit), and finally brought the bike home this weekend. Looking to rebuild it. This was his most prized possession, and the last thing he was sitting on before leaving this earth. There is no way I am letting this thing go. It will be with me for the rest of mine, so when MY time comes, and I meet him up there, we can share stories of rides on the same bike. Miss you, son!

Always been a Yamaha fan. Bought my Yamaha FZ1 in 2009. It has 27 thousand miles on it and I still love this bike. I'm 57 and still LOVE going fast. Mine has the FMF apex slip on muffler on it and it has the bottom fairing on it. I love the look of it and probably will never sale it. Just can't see myself in a Harley Davidson yet.

Totally agree, mind blowing value!! I bought a brand new 2014 leftover, delivered to me in Florida for $7k!! I was an R1 guy, couldn't take the riding position any more unless your on a track.. Fz1 very comfortable for 200+ miles, great power, bullet proof, crazy easy to change oil and work on, cheap to run. Bang for the buck very hard to beat. Yes, the mirrors need to be bent out level with road, mirrors are good and i like them on the fairing, not on the bars. I throw some light stiff luggage bags on and you have an instant tour bike. I did the tail kit with the led strobe brake light. Love the bike, owes me nothing.

I have the 2007 Yamaha FZ1, and it’s very comfortable for everything: commuting, group spirited riding, and comfort. I’ve owned 2005 Yamaha R6, and rode it to Illinois for a huge group ride. After two days, my lower back was killing me. I sold that, picked up this bike, and to ride to Minnesota and back to Wisconsin in one day. It was a 500 mile-one day trip. I would recommend this bike for others.

Bought a red 06' FZ1 in showroom condition this summer, and I love it. Flashed ECU, full Yoshi exhaust, +2 rear sprocket, and quick-shifter make it a blast to ride. My only issue is that at speeds over 60, I feel like the bike wants to sit up and go straight. I'm more aware of leaning and counter-steering at higher speeds than I've been on previous bikes. Riding around town, it handles beautifully.

@@jerryx2000 i dont know about him but i currently own one and it has been very reliable, even in the cold. it also has never had a check engine light, even after 22000 miles. power-wise i would say that low end power = really good medium range = average high end = good usually if i am going highway speeds and want to speed up i will drop a gear or two to reach the high end power because the middle end is very average in my opinion. still the fastes bike i have ever had and its not even tuned right now.

I LOVE my Gen1 FZ1. Stock 145 bhp (125rwhp) is now (~172bhp) 151rwhp @4500' ASL! Ported, custom carbs, pods, tuned full exhaust, honed header, AIS Removed (EGR), R6 rear shock swap, R1 shifter, hot ignition, blah blah blah.... Will NEVER get rid of it. Pulls hard from 3000R's and after 7500, it's just nuts!!! Even two-up (tiny chick) I dust 600ss at stoplights. So much fun especially since nobody knows how fast it is. I've ground down the front frame sliders in turns because the FZ1 has a ridiculous lean angle for an upright bike. Yamaha got this right WAYYYYY Back when. I also ride a BMW GS and a KTM 990 SMR, but the older FZ1 is my baby.

This is my first bike. 2009 FZ1 with 5k miles. Love it. She can be a beast. 485 pounds. You feel it at low speeds. At speeds glued to the road. Four wheels don’t stand a chance. Most two wheels I stay with. Great engine breaking. No you ain’t dragging knees on it but it’s not made to and on the road you shouldn’t need to. We crash at corners and intersections. Most times on corners due to unsafe speeds. It’s a daily driver. Go around town long hauls and commute to work. Comes to life after 5k rpms. Very happy with it. I respect her.

For those who doing some due diligence on the FZ1 before making a commitment, here's my 2 cents. I've been riding for decades. I can afford anything I want. I currently have several bikes including a Ducati Diavel AMG and a 2003 FZ1. If I had to choose between those two, it would be the FZ1 hands down, with zero hesitation. Just an FYI, if you have troubles with bumps and your lower back on a cruiser bike, try something like this with the pegs under your hips. You'll use your knees and hips for absorbing shocks of the bumps, while still being in an upright position. Saved my back, and has me riding 75% long between stops for back breaks.

The guy's I travelled with had a 250 and 300 ninja and they thought fuel wise they would have the upper hand but with long stretches we actually got very similar mileage. I can agree 100%, I own a gen 2 FZ1 and you cannot beat it for the price. The biggest issue with them is trying to sell one, not well known enough to have a large market. Those mirrors are not stock, stock ones sit normally. A very nice mod for these is the highway pegs that sit forward, and a softer seat. Nice part about the highway pegs is they fold up and aren't the first thing to touch down when at full lean. Another mention is insurance is DIRT cheap for one. Less than half the price than even a similar year R6.

Mt 10 isn't any faster than an a FZ1. Mt 10 has a crossplane crankshaft for more mid range power vs flat plane which is lighter and allows engine to rev higher. My 09 Fz1 with an Ivan's tune, modified flies, fuel cut, power commander, and two bros exhaust and dynoed put out 150 hp at 11k rpm and 79ft lbs of torque at 9500RPM. Mt10 with similar mods makes a nearly same power and torque just sooner in the rev range..
