I acquired mine in a more somber way. My son died in a hit and run on his 2007 FZ1 in September of last year. It has sat at the tow yard since, till this weekend. I am finding a calling to my healing process with him (his spirit), and finally brought the bike home this weekend. Looking to rebuild it. This was his most prized possession, and the last thing he was sitting on before leaving this earth. There is no way I am letting this thing go. It will be with me for the rest of mine, so when MY time comes, and I meet him up there, we can share stories of rides on the same bike. Miss you, son!

Totally agree, mind blowing value!! I bought a brand new 2014 leftover, delivered to me in Florida for $7k!! I was an R1 guy, couldn't take the riding position any more unless your on a track.. Fz1 very comfortable for 200+ miles, great power, bullet proof, crazy easy to change oil and work on, cheap to run. Bang for the buck very hard to beat. Yes, the mirrors need to be bent out level with road, mirrors are good and i like them on the fairing, not on the bars. I throw some light stiff luggage bags on and you have an instant tour bike. I did the tail kit with the led strobe brake light. Love the bike, owes me nothing.

I have the 2007 Yamaha FZ1, and it’s very comfortable for everything: commuting, group spirited riding, and comfort. I’ve owned 2005 Yamaha R6, and rode it to Illinois for a huge group ride. After two days, my lower back was killing me. I sold that, picked up this bike, and to ride to Minnesota and back to Wisconsin in one day. It was a 500 mile-one day trip. I would recommend this bike for others.

I LOVE my Gen1 FZ1. Stock 145 bhp (125rwhp) is now (~172bhp) 151rwhp @4500' ASL! Ported, custom carbs, pods, tuned full exhaust, honed header, AIS Removed (EGR), R6 rear shock swap, R1 shifter, hot ignition, blah blah blah.... Will NEVER get rid of it. Pulls hard from 3000R's and after 7500, it's just nuts!!! Even two-up (tiny chick) I dust 600ss at stoplights. So much fun especially since nobody knows how fast it is. I've ground down the front frame sliders in turns because the FZ1 has a ridiculous lean angle for an upright bike. Yamaha got this right WAYYYYY Back when. I also ride a BMW GS and a KTM 990 SMR, but the older FZ1 is my baby.

Most two wheels I stay with. Great engine breaking. No you ain’t dragging knees on it but it’s not made to and on the road you shouldn’t need to. We crash at corners and intersections. Most times on corners due to unsafe speeds. It’s a daily driver. Go around town long hauls and commute to work. Comes to life after 5k rpms. Very happy with it. I respect her.

Just an FYI, if you have troubles with bumps and your lower back on a cruiser bike, try something like this with the pegs under your hips. I can agree 100%, I own a gen 2 FZ1 and you cannot beat it for the price. The biggest issue with them is trying to sell one, not well known enough to have a large market. Those mirrors are not stock, stock ones sit normally. A very nice mod for these is the highway pegs that sit forward, and a softer seat. Nice part about the highway pegs is they fold up and aren't the first thing to touch down when at full lean. Another mention is insurance is DIRT cheap for one. Less than half the price than even a similar year R6.

I have an 09 FZ1. It has been my favorite bike, comfort like a touring, power like a super. The only thing I don't like about it is it has the Euro headlight from the previous owner. If anyone out there has a stock front I'm looking to buy. This is a killer bike!

I currently ride a 2009 Yamaha FZ6R (bought new 2010) and have been riding it since. It's been awesome! Never broken down, never not started. I've only had to do oil changes and new tires. New chain and sprockets this spring and maybe front brake pads. lol

Mt 10 isn't any faster than an a FZ1. Mt 10 has a crossplane crankshaft for more mid range power vs flat plane which is lighter and allows engine to rev higher. My 09 Fz1 with an Ivan's tune, modified flies, fuel cut, power commander, and two bros exhaust and dynoed put out 150 hp at 11k rpm and 79ft lbs of torque at 9500RPM. Mt10 with similar mods makes a nearly same power and torque just sooner in the rev range..
@brucecalvert38873 жыл бұрын
I like the mt10 because of the safety features.abs and traction control.and cruise control. I just love the sound of the mt1. I dont like that the bike wants to stand up in the first 3 gears. My 07 stays planted and its hard to wheelie

I have an 08 ZX10 and an 07 FZ1, let my friend ride the FZ one day and and we did a pull on the highway. The ZX10 has a full M4 exhaust, with a tune and some carbon fiber parts, the FZ is sprocketed for more accel and has an exhaust. The FZ kept up with the ZX10 up to about 130mph then the ZX10 started pulling.

For me, the inline 4 sound is also superior. LOL, I love how you hide the speedometer with the fog of war (smart... you don't want this video being used against you in court). Also, a "naked" bike like that gets less attention and less costly to repair if you do lay it down. Thanks for the video 👍

There are some downsides to this bike actually. '06-'07 models suffer from a frame cracks, pretty common issue that was. Also ' 06-'15 models suffer from a generator rotor magnets falling off and going into the engine case, updated Yamaha parts was issued but you need to pay for it yourself.
@silntstl4 жыл бұрын
Frame cracks were from dumb asses wheeling it. It has loads of low end so the hooligan crowd made it their go to. As for rotor magnets I never received a recall from Yamaha. You would have thought that might have crossed their minds?
@Kt1an4 жыл бұрын
I had the rotor magnets go at 72k miles! The ABS also messes up because it naturally wheelies with the power so Ive had that off since I got it!

YES! I've owned mine for a few years now and have ALWAYS considered it the ultimate sleeper bike! Glad to see more fans of the ole FZ1! Those are probably not the stock mirrors btw, stock sit more flat like you were saying. Also, the FZ1 is super cheap to insure since its a "sport touring" bike. My last bike was a ‘14 FZ-1. Very fast 🏍 💨, kinda comfortable, great for commuting and canyon carving. Decent ~40+ mpg...Depending on how it’s ridden. Conveniently low tech. Has great headlights for night riding...unlike newer versions, ie. mt09 etc. Had mine north of 150mph in Mexico, on a track and could’ve gone faster. Oh, and it will wheelie if your not careful, or if you want. Mirrors pivot down lower...fold in/up for storage. I kind of miss her 🥺😭
