I'm glad I found your video, it confirms what I suspected and I now I know how to set it up! I was a bit concerned about having the GoPro plugged in and receiving charge with a battery inside it as that might degrade the battery. I checked and, if you have a long enough USB-C cable and a wall adapter, the GoPro can be powered by a from a wall socket without the battery inside it. That might save a battery or two because, as you say, they're not the best!

removing battery and running gopro on wallsocket poweer only combined with encoding settings set to hevc only was the fix for overheating! i use the inexpensive capturecard, (new one uses usb3.0 and can therefore do 60fps) delay i just fixed with 990ms delay setting, but thats only 150ms now :D

Ok guys here is the run down for the GoPro hero9 with elgato hd60 S+ and media mod. HDMI micro to hdmi into the elgato. Usb C to usb A into computer. Both are on the input side of the elgato. You do not need an hdmi cable going to output. Also here is some fun for using your GoPro without a battery and SD card which you will want to do due to excessive heat from the battery. For external power only use a usb C charger with a usb C cable. Not type A to usb C. Also my usb A power bank to usb C cable worked. I hope this helps someone because I had to figure it out myself. Absolutely ridiculous haha

Looks great - but many people write about latency problem while streaming or using preview on any device - that is why I'm afraid to buy goPro8 - now I have 7 and this problem appears

Why is it that you guys just about always use a DSLR or some such thing when reviewing Gopros, webcams and so on? If you are reviewing a camera you should use that as your main camera and not just a few seconds of footage then back to main camera costing much more, particularly if, as you say, the GoPro makes a fantastic webcam. There are many reviews of microphones on YT and all of them use the reviewed microphone as the main mic, it makes sense as the viewer/listener gets to see how the product performs in actual use over the full period of the review.

That sounds all well and good but according to the Elgato website the maximum for a GoPro is 1080p60 and if that's true, that would honestly be pretty lousy, especially since it's also called Cam Link 4k and not 1k :/

With the 8 you only have hdmi with the media mod, the 8 can use GoPros webcam utility software available on their website via usbc 👍

Hi mate, I have the gopro hero 7 black and it doesn’t look amazing like yours, and I don’t know why. I used my iPhone 6 on obs for live streaming and the image was better! The video card im using is a generic one, usb 3.0 1080 60fps. The computer is a MacBook Pro 2015. I7, 16gb ram, ssd and have 2 graphics card, one of them have 2gb I think. When i use my gopro and use my usb to charge it as well it stops everything and puts it into usb connected on the screen and doesnt video at all until i pull it out then it goes back to streaming. Any ideas how to stop that ?

i might be late to the party but you can also cover up the two middle connectors, which are the data lines, in the usb plug. thats what i did and it works like a charm.

GhOsTs GeNeRaL personally not the 6 as the other two have stabilisation. I use the 7 and it’s been great, the 8 I’m not sure about as you have to buy the mods to be able to stream with it. Up to you but I love the 7

Any idea why my gopro settings are changing midstream? I have it on video 1080p 60fps and somehow the camera is changing to timelaps 1080p 0.5s... causing fps to be very bad. I've won a Hero 9 in a christmas giveaway and I'm hyped to set it up for streaming. There is right now a software from GoPro that let's you use your GoPro as a webcam with only a USB C cable. For Windows it's only in Beta rn, unfortunately.
