The corporations are attempting to save money by cutting the workforce. But this is only a temporary gain for them. They will ultimately hurt themselves by cutting jobs.

They don't care instead of selling a product to 90 people for $10, they will sell that product to 5 people for $200 and still make more for exact same thing.

I don't mind being laid off as long as I get an abundant severance package to help me transition to my next job.

Same here. Been with my company for 8 years and want to quit but maybe getting laid off is better. I also have not experienced collecting unemployment. I have enough savings and family backing where I don’t have to work for years so I’m actually open to getting laid off!

Well, after being in a layoff spree for the past two years, looks like suddenly there is a "Labor shortage" in tech. But only indians and anybody else willing to take 15 an hour or less) need apply.

They will quickly find out their living situation won't improve much and they won't be able to send back as much money as they thought to their families. have fun working 6 H1B1 visa jobs and living with 3 room mates, while not sending anything back to your family though.

A lot of jobs had been getting automated by software, machinery, or outsourced for years. You also have people coming into the country to get certain types of jobs with H1B Visas. There are just less and less opportunities in the US to make a living. I was thinking about moving overseas to teach English. All you need is a Bachelor's Degree.

That's a great idea, how hard is it to get a work visa to a country to teach English?

@@LaborGains You need to go to an embassy of the country you want to go to. As for the difficulty, it largely depends on the country. For Japan and South Korea it isn't hard to get. I don't know about China, because I had never been there.

I had to enter the job market after 20 years in the military and it was a nightmare. I got a degree in tech but had get a job with my electronic background because tech job market is trash now

7:10 - When I worked in a call center, I automated my workflows using my programming skills. With today's technology, we could have a society where people only work 4-6 hours but have a higher income than they do now, but greed won't let that happen. Instead of talking about how hard it is to find a job, I would suggest a discussion about job creation and how many jobs and positions, especially in the tech industry, are just "monkey work" that pay nothing and are only there to keep people busy and inflate the size and importance of companies. Furthermore, their oversaturation is partly the reason for the current job market and economy we find ourselves in.

Yup offshoring and absolutely no interest in quality like you said. When my Fortune 10 company outsourced our A/R call center I would call in sometimes and they wouldn't know what to do and would hang up or transfer me to a busy signal. Zero competence. When Americans did this work they were expected to provide quality. But Indians? Nah anything goes. No accountability. And H1Bs. The H1B thing has blown up all over Twitter this past week. It's way worse than anyone realized. Not even truckers and cashiers are safe anymore.

I remember "chatting" with customer support for an app a few times. The responses were the same, letter for letter. Felt like whatever is on the other end also had to work with limited unhelpful options for their response as well.

I hear that. I also hear that no one wants to work from business owners. But no one wants to interview people. The pay is unbelievable. A job I had pre-2020 posted a position for 55 dollars a day! I made 3 times that in the same role. What in the world is going on.

H1B is not taking all jobs, it’s for engineers and doctors. We don’t have enough of them since kids these days want to get degrees in business, marketing or arts.

I feel you brother hang in there work in seafood or grocery store or you will run out of money while just looking do whatever you have to in order to survive because I dont see tech jobs coming back soon. its been 2 years for me and its rough our there the first year I ended up in the hospital with full mental breakdown but it did allow my mind to calm down and realize that life is transitions sometimes it doesnt go my way and thats okay .the mind will keep telling you it has to work out how you want it but sometimes you have to accept and allow using the dare method and mindfullness can help as well.

I tried to start learning to be a computer programmer. Then I realized they’re are NO entry level jobs especially without a degree. Now I’m saving my money to hopefully go to truck driving school. 2024 was a very hard year

These companies will find outsourcing is the way to cut costs, look at the currency converter, $10 an hour goes far in those countries. Also, I notice the dumbing down of requirments like insurance licensing.

I don’t think corporations are rationale to realize that lay-offs are a vicious cycle that harms their profitability in the long run! Sure cutting labor cost might look like a short-term fix but if many employers are doing it that means the general population will have less disposable income to purchase their goods and services so there will be a decline in revenue. Offshore labor is cheaper but they can’t afford to replace the consumers from the developed countries who are already used to higher salaries. I also learned that companies are responsible for paying for unemployment insurance. How many laid off employees who claim unemployment and for how long is tracked and determines the new premium the company has to pay for unemployment insurance. There is also a morale issue where people are waking up and no longer being loyal to a company knowing they are not immune to lay offs. It is much cheaper to retain employees than to experience turnover and replace new ones more frequently.

Our current economic mess/dystopia is a direct consequence of profit maximization for its own sake, untempered by any social or humanistic concerns. It is basically a theorem of the extremely short-term thinking that drives our economic system This system perhaps worked in the past, but it is becoming increasingly outdated.

In areas where "everyone knows everyone" yea. Like if you abruptly leave one company and try to work at a competitor they can easily find someone to ask illegally about how you left.

Thanks for the question! I think there will always be a need for human connection and creativity in any field. If you can perform services for high wealthy people they are going to want someone to do that who is a human. At their company they would outsource as much as possible, but personally they want people. So doing taxes for them, managing their investments, even manual labor and repairs around their home.

Well if you avoid AI, then you got to deal with the visas taking your jobs (01,H1B1). Some jobs that will be somewhat loss proof are: 1) Government jobs / contract opportunities. 2) Self employment 3) GTFO and live in a cheaper country and I guess you run an e-shop/hustle academy like Andrew Tate. 4) Your Fd, enjoy prison.

I think you are tackling your job search incorrectly. The roles you are targeting are shrinking. What I notice is that my buddy can't find a tech job in Canada was able to land a job with Xai in USA. The truth is people need to start focusing on gig economy instead of 9-5. 9-5 = taxation gig economy = cash in the pocket especially if you live in high taxation area like Canada where 100k job is the same as 70k non-taxed job

@@beloved-child I am not referring to the gig economy like driving or delivery. I am thinking in the line of selling stuff on ebay and etc.... or mowing lawn and snow removal. Also gig economy in general you can evade tax. If you are in a high tax region like me 100k taxable job is the same as 70k non-taxed job.

@@mrguiltyfool Tons. Maybe you don't have personal experience but I can attest that it is quite common now for millions of Americans to have a side gig. I've always been a 1099 contractor and am quite the (formerly) successsful small entreprenuer, but right now the market is DEAD. There's just not any real innovation and the bigs have consolidated everything.
