The reasons why this video game adaptation works so well to name a few is because the creators of putting the show together have done their research and you can see as a viewer their passion to want bring these characters to life in a live action setting. The angles from the truck scenes for example were executed beautifully. It gave you that feeling of when you are experiencing the game for the first time, seeing mayhem starting to happen with the first encounters of the infected. The way the characters nail the characteristics of their video game selves doesn’t feel forced it’s believable. When actors care about the character they are portraying you can see that in their acting as it makes them believable to the viewer.

I don't doubt that your points definitely made the show good. But just to be clear, not adhering to those points doesn't necessarily mean that an adaptation will be bad: 1. "The source material is already great, and you just have to follow it." Paul Verhoeven apparently said that the Starship Troopers movie, which has become beloved over time, is pretty much a parody of the novel. 2. "Video game storytelling has become more complex, adaptations used to be just chases." Certain movies have very simple plots, such as Mad Max: Fury Road, which is mostly chases. 3. "The source material is too long to fit into a movie." The game is 15 hours only b/c of the gameplay. There are videos that show its story mostly via cutscenes in around 3-and-a-half hours. Order of the Phoenix is the longest Harry Potter book at 257,045 words yet the generally well-received movie is the 2nd shortest at 2 hours & 18 minutes. 4. "The changes they made didn't deviate too far from the source." Die Hard is based on a sequel novel about a retired detective who fights terrorists that are trying to expose the corruption of the company that the protagonist's daughter (who falls to her death) is working for. Frank Sinatra was contractually required to be offered the lead role due to starring in an adaptation of the first novel. 5. "Not having gameplay provides time to enhance the story." One can argue that action gameplay is the equivalent of action scenes. Martial arts movies are popular for providing long fight sequences that entertain no matter if they progress the story or not. The Raid would be much shorter if the choreography was kept to a minimum.

And the shot when they were riding in the truck and you were looking out the windshield at what was going on it made you feel like you was in that truck. usually on scenes like those they would alternate between the point of view from inside the vehicle and a point of view outside the vehicle. But on this show they showed 1 perspective from the inside of the truck. I can't even tell you what the truck look like because we really didn't see it from the outside. Having at more limited perspective from inside of the truck it just made it feel more real and more suspenseful because we couldn't really see what was going on around the vehicle we could only see from his daughters perspective and I found that really cool.

Curse was already broken with Assassin’s Fist, Castlevania, Sonic, Arcane, etc. But this is still a big win 🤞crossed it’s good all the way through. I liked it.

I don't count Arcane because RIOT were heavily involved with its creation. How can it go wrong when the original developers are behind it?
@MrConredsX Жыл бұрын
Assassins Creed wasn't that popular but Sonic, Arcane and Castlevania definetly count as breaking the curse. We can only debate which one was first. For zoomers it might be Detective Pikachu or Sonic, for boomers it might had already been Mortal Kombat 1. Last of Us for 100% doesn't break any new ground.

The actor playing Tommy sounds like his counterpart + Ellie

You're missing another Pedro title on that list, that's closer to Last of Us than Mandalorian. Ever see the movie Prospect? If you like Pedro and sci-fi, you should see Prospect.

I thought the Assassin's Creed movie was good, they did a good job making the Animus and explaining the whole bloodline thing, Assassin's vs Templar's etc.

I think Borderlands and Bioshock would be great adaptations as well.

Honestly Bioshock can work.

Phenomenon of a show. Craig Mazin is the best showrunner and writer in the streaming game. Incredible work between him and Neil Druckmann. HBO is on another level

This comment section just showed me one of the reason this society is fucked. Jesus man! Watch or read to get full context before just blurting out a answer to be right.

Don't sleep on the 1st Mortal Kombat or the 1st Silent Hill. They were great and this looks awesome!

A "Shadow of the Colossus" movie, live action or (preferably) animated, could be fun.

I really liked the first episode. I'm not sold on the actor who plays Ellie though. Need a couple more episodes to fully decide if I like her or not

Yeah she’s a good actress but she’s not from the US, so her faking an American accent stunts her performance a tad. She learned the accent just for this show and she’s a young actress, so I give her some extra credit and having seen her in Game of Thrones, I have faith that she can carry future emotive scenes.
@Revealingstorm. Жыл бұрын
@@tajneafoster2836 I think she does the tough side of Ellie well, it's just whenever she's trying to be more playful and be more of a kid I have a hard time buying her acting. We have most of the season ahead of us though, so that means more chances to show if she can successfully pull off that part.

Gameplay doesn't have to interrupt storytelling, gameplay can be a type of story telling. But that's mostly interactive story telling movies can never reproduce.

I loved how the opening action was identical to the game. Like the cop cars driving past. Also am I the only one that thinks Pedro looks like his video game character? Not really a race swap. You can be Latino and white. Maybe an ethnicity swap.

Korey, I recommend Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge. It's an animated movie based on Mortal Kombat's iconic character.

I think writers and directors are artists at heart and it feels like an insult to an artist to just paint by the numbers.
