What pisses me off so much about this is that the "darker elements" that they felt they had to add, THEY DIDNT NEED TO. Bloom is literally the last living survivor of HER ENTIRE PLANET, Stella struggles with her parents being divorced THEN has to deal with her Dad remarrying a woman who literally tries to replace her with her own bratty daughter, Aisha/Layla's FIRST STORYLINE is her trying to overcome her intense lonliness as she's shoved into an already established friend group THEN her planet gets attacked by the season 3 bad guy THEN she loses her bf. HALF OF THEM nearly DIE getting their Enchantix. One of which was Tecna, WHO THEY THOUGHT DIED AND THEN DECIDED THAT THEY COULDNT STAY TOGETHER AS THE WINX CLUB BECAUSE TECNA WASNT APART OF IT ANYMORE. Musa struggles with the death of her Mother....LIKE ALL the elements to make it dark was freaking there and they just IGNORED IT because "haha LOL this pretty in pink girl show"

I know! I mean they could have focused more on those elements and mixed it with the fact that Musa in the show is able to feel other people's emotions and how that takes a toll on her especially with all the crap her friends deal with. It is funny to me that they believe that women as main demographic is something bad.... Hello Kitty, Disney Princesses and Barbie are one of the best selling franchises. Pokemon has a big female demographic and caters to them with cute designs and such. Lets talk music, Ariana, BTS, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, have huge female demographics and are selling monsters. Let's take a closer look to bts, stores and brands are begging for collabs and partnerships for the amount of clout and buying power they bring to brands. Their way of thinking is outdated and annoying.
@TheDawnofVanlife3 жыл бұрын
All those things are also in the, for lack of a better term, 'girl market'. Where as when you have a team of magical humans in some sort of magical conflict, people think more boys and action figures...more Sci-Fi and Fantasy books, then dolls and dress up (I don't agree with this mindset, but Hello Kitty is more decorative then make pretend play and Barbie fits squarely in the doll not Superhero catergory...though she's dressed as a Superhero sometime. I think parents are more to blame then anything. A lot of the time little girls and boys like the same things as kids (Power Rangers for example, most little girls and boys want all the toys-a little boy would not shy away from playing with the pink ranger if he liked the show), but when Mom and Dad go shopping they'll only pick up things in the pink isle for girls and grab those 'action figures' for boys (this distinction is STUPID since on a based level, action figures and dolls are basically the same thing. Mini models of some fictional character). And it's not that the son doesn't want the female members of the Power Rangers (to use my power rangers example) but parents are likely not gonna pick up the Pink Ranger for their son and avoid the Superhero isle altogether for their daughter, even if she watches the show with her brother.

After watching Fate, it became apparent to me that the creators fundamentally misunderstood what parts of Winx Club made it a success. It is a magical girl show at its core. You can't satisfy a magical girl audience without color, transformations, or friendship. Those are key tenets of the genre. This grimdark aesthetic would have been far more successful in a W.I.T.C.H. About there being no cat-fight-y moments in the Bloom/Sky/Stella-love triangle: I disagree. Bloom didn't really do anything , that's true, but Stella was constantly making it clear that she considered Sky "hers". Whenever she witnessed him and Bloom together, she would insert herself into their conversation, often intimately touch Sky in front of Bloom and afterwards throw death glares at her. In the very first episode she sends Bloom away to possibly die in the woods, just because Sky showed interest in her. What also put me off about the whole love triangle was that it's yet another teen-drama that asserts girls cannot possibly be friends right away or be mature about their relationship, they have to be catty and possessive when it comes to romance. I liked that Winx Club didn't feel the need to turn Stella into a stereotypical mean girl who Bloom has to assert dominance over by stealing her boyfriend. But hey, all the '''''''''mature'''''''' shows have love triangles and women hating each other for minuscule reasons, so of course the Winx-reboot had to crowbar that in. /s

Its also disappointing how they were SO afraid to step out of Riverdale's blueprint to the point that they didn't even make the logical decision to capitalize off the Y2k fashion trend, which was not only a core part of the series but is also having a huge revival. I guarantee that everything else about the show could have been of the same mediocrity but if they got the fashion right people would have loved it and instagram would have been full of winx inspired lookbooks. But for some reason they literally hired the costume designer from desperate housewives. I guess they cared more about the negative publicity than any kind of originality anyway. Lots of people are saying this show would have been better if the show wasn't attached to the Winx name and while thats probably true, no one would have wanted to watch it because, as you said, there are a million other shows doing exactly what they are doing. And like these self-fulfilling prophecies are the worse and many times they themselves force them I remember that I followed many fans of Young Justice and one of the main complaints is that it didn't have enough toys and most toys were made of the cheaper quality and pretty expensive so many fans didn't waste their money on it and them they blamed poor toy sales on the cancelation

What annoys me the most is what they did to Stella. Like, in the original show she’s spoiled and fashion obsessed, but she’s also still a really good friend and person! I hate that shows always have the spoiled character be a asshole because it’s waayyy over-done. Stella was a refreshing character that shows that just because your pretty and confident, doesn’t mean your a mean girl. I hated that they just diminished Stella into a stereotypical misunderstood mean girl. 😤

The show would've been decent. if it wasn't connected to Winx. Winx the cartoon was pretty shallow in terms of story, but the music, transformations, fashion, and the idea it self is what made it ICONIC, them removinig everything that made Winx, you know WINX, was a slap on the fact to anyone who grew up with Winx. The connections you made are outstanding, i would've never thought about those things, Amazing video, always love to hear your takes.
@infinitedreamer93593 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's fair to say that Winx Club was shallow in story or NEVER had darker or mature elements. For example, Stella was dealing with her parents being divorced and Musa was dealing with how the death of a family member affected her relationships with the rest of her family. Sure,it was never focused on too much,but to say they weren't there at all is pretty disingenuous. Essentially,WC was a coming of age story dealing the challenges the characters faced in their years at Alfea and while it's nothing original,it was decently done. At least that's I would say for the first 4 seasons+SotLK movie. After that,they changed their demographic from older kids and tweens to really young kids. If the directors and writers had actually bothered to research the series,they probably could've caught this stuff and take what was already there and just expand on it,while adding in new lore that still makes sense for WC. But no,they just haaad to go the 'let's take something that was bright and colorful and then make it muted,dull,and have blood/gore as a sign that this is more mature when it really isn't!' route It makes the show have no identity of it's own because Riverdale,Sabrina,and countless other shows already did this shit. And no,I think even if the show wasn't called Winx,it still wouldn't be all that great because nearly all of the characters are unlikable and the plot doesn't make sense.

I watched the show first as an young teen and now I've been rewatching and dude is so much deeper than I remember. Yes that's a lot of silliness but is also pretty deep, like Stella learning that her comments can seriously hurt her friends and the girls learning to interact with clashing personalities. I'm starting the second season, and I don't think it's shallow at all, maybe you should rewatch too.
@infinitedreamer93593 жыл бұрын
@@joiceraiana Yeah. That's what I said. The more mature/darker elements weren't focused on much and the show could be corny,but they were there. Stella was dealing with the divorce of her parents. And hell,Aisha's whole arc and backstory was her learning how to deal with her crippling fear of loneliness and isolation. And then there's the REAL reason why Sky and Brandon swapped places on S2,which was because Sky was in danger of being kidnapped to be held for ransom.And hell, S4 especially has a ton of this. PGSM(the live action Sailor Moon series) takes the darker or underdeveloped aspects of the 90's anime/manga and used that to tell new stories that changed how you looked at the original work. BUT, the series was still recognizable as SM and kept the same appeal. That's what I was hoping they'd do,not this In Name Only BS.

funny that batman and robin was hated, yet its my favourite batman movie, and the one my dad and mum have seen the most times... and as for madoka, i liked it. it was short, but it didnt need to be long, and honestly, i think the best thing was the asthetic for the witch's labrynths, with the weird, experimental animation and art, mixing horror and fairy tale, which set it apart from other magical girl subversions, making it stand out. it was good, but the attention it gain lead to an oversaturation of grimdark magical girls, not all of which were that good. and i still prefer precure, which, like winx, has bright colours, pretty outfits, themes of friendship and growing as people, tense situations, heartfelt, emotional moments and a good story that non fans often overlook due to the bright, sparkly, girly surface. and that guy saying girls dont buy toys? not true. tho some of us are a little nervous about doing so due to stigma created by people like him. i can think of pleanty of times when i have looked into male clothing sections and seen the t-shirts of stuff i enjoy, then go into the girls section and its all glitter, good vibes, unicorns and disney. i only recently picked up the confidence to actually go and buy the t-shirts from the male section. and its the same with toys. i have looked at countless figurines and thought "i want that, but i'm a girl and girls aren't supposed to like that." then my brother would buy them and i'd play with them more than him. its not about not wanting them, its about desisions to market exclusively to boys, to create an image that only boys can like thais stuff, to put the toys in separate aisles depending on weather its marketed to girls and boys. if you put the action figures next to the barbies, showed girls playin with them in tv adverts aswell as boys, then more girls would buy them. i know its different now, but that wasnt the case when i actually wanted that sort of thing, instead of the manga and lego minifigs i collect now. and i went to see the dora movie in cinema and really enjoyed it, as a girl the same age as dora is supposed to be in the film and who watched the cartoon (albeit only occasionally at friend's houses, it wasn't on any of the channels i had access to at home before i grew out of it) as a 3-6 year old. it was bright and colourful, used tropes from the cartoons, but made them into good jokes, with one of my favourite lines actually being the "can /you/ say extreme neurotoxicity?" joke, and the confusion her parents showed whenever she turned to the camera. all the callbacks to the original cartoons, whilst making it more realistic to match the medium, jokes for both the kids and the parents, along with an interesting story that was reletively high action but still easy enough and tame enough for the younger audience, characters who i could get invested in and actually care about their relationships, and it was a team of 5 with even less time than fate had. sure, its adapting something completely different from winx, but i see it as proof that 1) an older actress can look like a 16 year old if you dress them correctly, 2) you can become invested in characters and their relationships with less than an hour if you do it correctly and 3) you dont have to be grimdark to be a good live action adaption of a cartoon.

for the love of god, I pray that NOBODY touches the W.I.T.C.H comics... those are one of the best pieces of media I have ever consumed to this day. the story arcs were so compelling and mostly always adressed a bigger issue without being preachy or boring. The characters were so well written every single time, making them think and act like ACTUAL teenagers and having problems most if not all teens could relate to. The magic was never the focal point and I believe that is what makes them stand out and so good. When I think about how I took all my 25+ books and threw them in the garbage I want to cry... Stupid 14-year-old me. If anyone knows if and where I can buy them again, let me know

About Tower Prep, I constantly fought my brain on this because for the longest time as a teen, I thought I made the show up, but I was also insistent that it existed, so to see it talked about settles it for me. I never knew why they cancelled it, but ig because it was bringing in the girls. Ironically, the show they replaced it with, Level Up, was also something I watched when I saw it. That's the stupid thing about this, I literally don't care if the show is a "boy show" if I become attached to it, I _WILL_ watch it no matter what. Ben 10, Generator Rex, Thundercats 2011, Sym-Bionic Titan, fuck yes I watched them, as well as watching Winx Club, Steven Universe, Magical DoReMi, My Little Pony, and Bratz. It did _not_ matter to me, really it didn't. I find it funny they mentioned Young Justice because when I saw that in this video, I was thinking "Well maybe you shouldn't have made all the characters hot!" I was really a simp for all the guys on The Team when I first watched it, but I also super love action and fight scenes. Besides, I will never not love Robin, it can't just be me that always had a crush on him in whatever cartoon he was in. I'm sure there were also a lot of other girls that watched the show purely for the action and story, too. MARKETING?! GIRLS DON'T BUY TOYS?! Shit, put _anything_ on a purse or backpack and I will want it, I love collecting those. I look at Hot Topic every month and see backpacks for shows/media I don't even watch and I'm like "I kinda _need_ that, though". Also, I love figures, just make figures, put it on jewelry, earrings, bracelets, all that. Like he said, just put a character on an umbrella. BTS, the world famous group, has a line of characters with Line Friends, and they have merch of everything under the sun. All they needed to do was do that, these characters are cute and have sold out so many items, literally any product you could think of. They just don't know how to sell, CN's really trash with that. They killed Gen Rex, Sym-Bionic Titan and Thundercats 2011, just because they couldn't sell the toys for them, despite the fact that they were pretty popular. Gen Rex got the better end of the stick, it at least had an ending, despite CN knocking it off the air during the second season. I had only faint memories of _one_ episode of S3 and the rest was practically new to me (except for the very ending, which I had seen when they were airing it on CN at 6 IN THE MORNING in like 2013). Not to mention it came on *right* after Ben 10, and the basic structure of the shows were similar (though they were very different too), "Teenage boy fights [blank] but also is/can turn into it as well, and is pretty much the world's protector." (Also includes The Secret Saturdays. And actually even Steven Universe now that I think about it, though SU isn't action heavy with a boy market). All in all, as someone else here said, Fate could've just not been Winx and then it wouldn't have been dragged as hard, but because they told us "This is a WINX show for all the WINX fans who liked WINX CLUB!" it hurts x10 worse that it's like this. Life is already depressing, I wanna see glitter and fashion and the power of friendship, damn it! It's obvious they just used the name thinking they could lure us in, which ig _kinda_ worked because I saw a lot of fans saying they were going to "See what it's like" when it dropped, so idk. But seriously, they could've called it something else. If I hadn't seen that was Winx, if someone showed me a trailer, no dialogue, I wouldn't think that's Winx at all.

What made Winx so amazing was the amazing fashion, bright colors, diversity, and the strong bond the girls had. You could tell that these characters genuinely cared for and about each other. These young ladies were smart, gorgeous, kind hearted, and became heroes of their world not because they were born into it, but because they CHOSE to take a stand and protect their world. Seeing women step into heroic roles while maintaining their femininity was unheard of, especially for younger women. The Winx weren’t overly sexualized, and each of them looked like real people in our world.

This is my first video of yours I am watching and I adore your personality so much. Now about this whole Winx deal. I feel like I have to ask this question: Why is EVERY show targeted towards teenagers dark and moody as fuck? We want, nay NEED colors here. Speaking of color, outfits. This looks so fucking dull. The setting for this show is dull as well. Okay moving on. I COULD NOT deal with white-washing here. The reason we felt attached to these characters was because of their diversity and their connection to each other. Hollywood has a history of racism and only casting white actors and actresses who are cast with portraying EVERY RACE OTHER THAN THEIR OWN. The fact there is no Asian representation is a crime. Also getting rid of Techna. Does the subject of science not exist?! Replacing one actress with one that is yes plus sized, but is also white. All adults here are apathetic pieces of trash. As an OG Winx fan, I already expected trash when I heard they purposefully changed Terra to Flora's cousin because they heard that people were upset that a yt woman replaced our favorite Latina. I tried watching the show a few nights ago with as open a mind as possible. It started off pretty well until the part where "Bloom" in ep. 1 sneaked out to "learn" her powers despite various warnings and almost killed Aisha. Not even a proper apology afterwards. I was further appalled when she told the story of almost killing her parents. I'm naturally introverted. I'd be upset if my parents tried to force me to open up too. Upset enough to indirectly almost get them killed? No. Or when she asks questions/explains situations to others in hopes of getting an answer then when she gets the answer, if she doesn't agree with it which is 9/10, she overreacts and creates unnecessary drama. After getting through half of ep. 2, I had to leave. The color choice that seems more witch-y, Bloom's poorly written character and unnecessary drama which, the time dedicated to starting that, could be used to show much more important, impactful mature themes and Aisha being the only POC and redeemable character. They all brought me mental pain to watch. Shocked me when I heard Netflix was making a S2 because of how well it did in the states. No surprise since, from my knowledge of previous shows, most Americans have shitty taste.

Most storylines in the series revolved around her. So whatever this terrible show did to make Bloom super special, it wasn’t anything crazy when the original series was the same.

THANK YOU for talking about PGSM! I recently introduced a good friend of mine to PGSM and we finished our together-apart-watching of PGSM a few weeks ago just before Fate was released. Both of us grew up on Winx Club, both of us deeply love and enjoy the magical girl genre and we talked so much about the teaser and trailer of Fate and both of us were so sad that this show obviously wouldn't stay faithful to the sourcematerial. PGSM would have been an amazing role model for a live action adaptation of Winx. All the clues and instructions on how to approach it and make it more mature without losing any of its charme or humour were there but heeey - why should we get creative and try to figure out how to stay true to the original when we can just copy the dark, gritty, edgy formula for the 100th time? It is very nice to see someone else appreciating PGSM for what it is. And I totally agree that we as a society need to stop treating "girly stuff" as less mature than "boys' stuff". I will defend my magical girls and cheezy romcoms anytime. Thank you for this amazing video! :)

I hated the romance in the show like Stella had Brandon. They were so cute. Sky liked bloom from the beginning, and seeing their relationship blossom was amazing. I don’t like that they changed Flora’s name... they named her Terra but Terra later said that she had a aunt named flora... what was the point of chasing her name!!!! And bloom hurting her parents?! That’s sooo cap. She loved them so much that whenever they would get involved in fairy business she would feel bad. I can’t believe they did that. And where is kiko?!??? Where is her companion and friend. I’m crying. Ahhh and the trixs.... I miss them bro. Bloom was never ‘special’ in the animated series and that was great she was a princess but so was half the squad. And the friendship killed me Stella and Bloom are the best friends of the show. They loved each other a lot!!! I hate that the show did that to Stella sure she was bratty sometimes in the AS but she was never that mean when bloom was asking her things she loved explaining things to bloom. I could go on forever....

When I was a kid and I discovered that Winx were an Italian creation (I am Italian) I was so so proud. I remember that my uncle who used to live in Slovakia at the time, brought me a Winx blanket as a present and I was shocked and pleased to discover they were also known outside of Italy. However I think it will come as no surprise that I am so very disappointed by this Netflix adaptation that has nothing to do with Winx apart from the name. There was so much potential and it was wasted.

Wow, I wasn't expecting such a thorough analysis! It is super sad that they dont think girls will buy action figures. Growing up in the 80s/early 90s I could never find female action figures (i think because the middle aged men were buying them) all they have to do to sell girls more action figures is to add, "hair play" just make the hair brushable instead of molded plastic. Anyway lots of great points. I think there is potential for the show to improve, I believe they will listen to us, (the fans) and if not we can always hope for the next attempt -like I'm still hoping for an Xmen with neon spandex. 💖

When it comes to Winx Club i never watched to many seasons but i watched when i was young and i liked it, i did not became a fan but liked it I do not trust the 8th season best to watch 1-5 season and 6-7 at your own chose but ignore 8th season This gridy fake edgy remake is a load of crap they should not have chosen to make it a Winx series but something its own it would not have needed to be this bad

Wasn't expecting for my all time favourite tv show Pushing Daisies to be mentioned in a Fate: the Winx Saga review!

I hated Bloom. Of course, other characters were unlikable but Bloom gave me a lot Feyre from ACOTAR vibes if you know what I mean.

To be fair, if I remember correctly from my childhood, a lot of people hated bloom too when the original first season came out ... that’s the thing when one of them is more special and all the other characters were less important. That is only critique that I don’t agree with, simply because it has just always been this way. It was just less prevalent in the later seasons. The thing making me mad in this version (Fate) is the Aisha trope and multiple other stereotypes, but actually not how bloom is portrayed. I mean, she could have been more understanding and caring to others and perhaps slightly less onedimensional, but I believe all the characterdevelopments are really somethings for later seasons, as this felt really rushed.

@@Eline77R I understand what you're saying but I was comparing her to Feyre from ACOTAR which is a book. Their characters were similar and Feyre is one of the worst written characters ever. People who have read the books may know what I'm trying to say.

@@DaalMakhani Oh right sorry, I haven't read it myself but I know the critique on the books since some of my friends love/hate it.

@@Eline77R yeah live action bloom is just unnecessarily mean.

Tbh the biggest insult is them being all "Boys can be fairies now and girls can be specialists" like the show never said they couldn't? Literally one of the professors in the first season literally has control over a magical virtual reality machine and he was a guy. Hell they have literal dude angels in the show that can do magic and warlocks. The only things that were all girls were the pixies.

Winx I was actually ok with them murdering because ever since they changed Darcy's voice actress it wasn't the same. W.I.T.C.H. has a special spot in my inner tween heart. I really hope they don't

My mind was blown when you mentioned Tower Prep. I loved that show growing up. Learning the reason why the show was canceled was heartbreaking. They need to bring the show back

Shooot, W.I.T.C.H. was already pretty dark and gritty in the books/comics

thank u for talking about magical girls omg. I was actually introduced to the genre through madoka magica (I had brushes with sailor moon and cardcaptor sakura bc my best friend was heavy into them, but I never consumed them myself.) I recently got into precure though and oh my god. I love it. i'm now diving headfirst into all the girl magical girl shit and I'm loving it. I wish I could've gotten into it when i was younger, I would've loved it

That's great you should check out Eryn Cerise channel she does a series about this history of magical girls so informative introduced me to some retro series that I never heard of.
