Great vid Laura, I have a scout 29er which i love. Have had various full sussers over the years, enjoyed them all and may well head that way again, though i will never get rid of the hardtail, just something about it that is addictive. 62 this year and still hanging in there 👍

I have a vitus sentier 27 vrs hardtail, cousin to nukeproof. Awesome bike, I've been riding all sorts of bikes since childhood, I'm now 57, but this is my first real mountain bike. I like the skill of navigating not just gliding over roots, rocks etc. Yes I don't go that fast but, skill, concentration, anticipation and fun is my aim.

Modern HT's can pretty much handle anything now and are so much fun. I had a whyte 905 for 2 years and it was a beast of a bike. A friend of mine rides an upgraded ragley marley and has done and kept up with me on some mega trails including adrenalin uplift. Great fun 👍

I'm 6 weeks into this mountain biking hobby, the first bike I've ever owned since I was a child, I'm 37 now.. And I got an XC style hardtail. Just an entry-level Trek Marlin 8 and I have learnt so much with the limited riding I've done. Nothing as hardcore as this but yeah, hoping to upgrade to full Sus one day :)
@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB

Nice one! That's ideal to get started and hardtails definitely push you to learn good technique! I picked up a cheap second hand trail bike when I started about 7 years ago and it was great to learn on. I took chunks out of it with all my crashes 😆 then upgraded after a couple of years.

Great to see you enjoyed the Hardtail. Modern long travel slack hardtails are very capable and are seriously underrated. They are more of a workout to ride fast than a full suspension, but if you rise to the challenge and lift your fitness to the level required they are very rewarding. I ride a Bird Zero AM with 160mm fork, 64 deg HA and ride everything my friends ride on their full suspension bikes and match their pace. It is very fast on trails where there are pump sections and of course efficient to pedal up hill.

Don't you find that head angle too slack for a hardtail? I've been building up my hard tail to suit me. I extended the forks to 160mm travel which put the head angle to around 63.5°, but i found that it was too much as it shifted to much of my weight to the rear wheel and also made any slight ascension feel like it was dragging. Dropped the forks back down to 150mm travel which put the head angle to about 64° and it feels perfect now for any environment. Curious of your thoughts

You didn’t sell the hardtail on the golfie (bit of a shock) but bang on at Glentress, how is such physical and metal torture so much fun 🤯.. Good stuff, enjoyed your commentary!! When your on a budget (like me) they’re the way forward 😉

These are 150mm I believe. Found them ideal for enduro stuff around tweed valley where i ride. I think 140-150 is great for this bike but that’s just me :). It depends what sort of trails you ride whether you think it’s worth changing them 👍

@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB
@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB 3 жыл бұрын
It was! Grinning all day on it! It depends on the trail I’d say. The first trail definitely a fair bit slower as the enduro bike just floats over everything but the 2nd trail was a smoother one and had some flat sections where this thing just went! It was effortlessly fast where my full sus would take a bit of work to carry the speed. Around Glentress etc I think It would be pretty close but golfie and rougher stuff definitely much faster on the full sus 👍
@Jessetheoutdoorman

Definitely slower, the friction of your tire not being able to absorb the bumps like on a full-sus is massive.

I've been riding this bike for 7 years now! kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L It was a great bike the day I got it, put it together, and went on my first ride; more importantly it's an even better bike today. I've ridden trails, street, and skatepark all on this bike. I have replaced almost every part on the bike. Some stuff has broken: derailleurs, wheels, shifter. Everything else were upgrades. The only ramaing original parts are the frame, bottom bracket, and crank set. BB and cranks will be upgraded soon. The geometry isn't great but that is really the only draw back to how good a value this bike is. Even after all the money I've spent upgrading it's still a more affordable bike than I'd have bought from a proper bike shop, especially with full suspension. I've also learned a lot about bikes working on it over the years. It really is one of the best perchases I've ever made and hopefully it'll still be around for another 7 years.
