My 2 and a half year old played my portal while my wife and I Christmas shopped at target an hour straight no issues worked perfect 🎉

The real problem is creating an ecosystem. Neither Sony or Nintendo wanted to spend money developing games for a portable system. Nintendo went as far as combining a handheld with a console to do such a thing. We’ll never see a dedicated handheld again, just not going to happen in today’s market. There’s too much competition from phones and PC handhelds for these companies to invest in an entirely new game lineup. The good news is remote play will only continue to get better over time, but it will be quite a wait before it’s a truly seamless experience, unfortunately.

Great point. If the PS5 Slim is really the smallest they can go then a portable that can play PS5 games natively seems way off. Ultimately it’s better for studios to just have one system to design for as well.

Exactly how I try to explain it to people too. Even Nintendo won't do this again. Why would Sony. PS5Portable would be $1200.

I agree, Sony did make thr right decision with this streaming device. I just wish the unlock it to have more functionality then just limit it to playing PS5 games oof

@@Electro096Yea, it’s kind of crazy it’s so limited. I guess they figure you already have so many devices that can do that. Still seems like a weird omission, hopefully it gets addressed at some point.

I sold my steam deck after owning it for less than two months. For someone who already owns the PS5 and is a parent then I’d recommend the portal as you don’t want to re buy games on Steam. I found the steam deck loud and the battery life was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced on a handheld. The steam deck requires a lot of tweaking and it’s not a very convenient system. The remote play experience on it was glitchy too. If you’re a Dad who just wants some short gaming sessions every now and then or play some great indie titles remotely then the portal is a better option or the switch OLED which I’ve learn to appreciate much more after owing the deck. Plus if you own a PS5 then why play a AAA tile on a 720 screen when you can enjoy the graphic fidelity of such games on a 55” OLED screen with 4K at 120 hz? So my point being if your mostly gonna play indie titles or do some casual gaming while the tv is occupied then the portal or the switch OLED is a better option.

thanks for sharing. I agree, the Steam Deck isn't for everyone. Mine turned out to be faulty after all. Waiting for a replacement to arrive but not really missing it because of how easily the Portal is allowing me to take on my PS5 backlog.

If they can figure out how to directly connect to the PS5 without WiFi, and give u a perfect connection without any lag, that would be great!

That's not technically possible. Anything wireless will be based on WiFi, and the Portal already has the specs it needs for a steady 1ms connection. This is all on the consumer to learn how to set up a WiFi network, or at least hire someone to set up their WiFi.

Ur basically explaining how the Wii u game pad worked, as long as u were close to the wii u console it was seemless play on the couch

6:25 Have you tried resetting SteamOS first?

yeah, went through all of Valve's troubleshooting steps and they eventually sent me an RMA form so have had to return it

How does it go against using chiaki4deck? I have a steam deck and was wondering because it’s all native if it’s better

It runs in 1080p, whereas Chiaki is limited to 720p. Other than that I’ve found it slightly more stable and the DualSense features make a difference depending on the game. It’s defo not a must buy if you’re happy with the Steam Deck experience though.

refrain from judgment until you have held it in your hands, i am sorry but that is the whole point of reviews. this device does not solve a problem that existed, i could hook up a dual sense controller with a big tablet, and i have a nice sized screen, if i have a high end phone, why would i throw away more money just to use their screen. also other point what if someone else is wanting to use the ps5, but you say no i am using it wirelessly. the fact this device does not allow you to stream games from their servers is an absolute joke, why would anyone pay into the playstation premium then. also also this device does not connect to a wifi if it requires you to accept the service. that can be very limiting.

Its polarizing because it shouldn't exist. This shouldve been an additional feature to a real new playstation portable that can do native play. Real Playstation fans would want native play with no need to be tied down to wifi and your ps5 at home.

I’m glad it exists. It’s been so much better than the iPhone and backbone and also iPad and controller. It’s been great for long gaming sessions and the most comfortable handheld I’ve ever had. I’ve managed to play a lot of my games chilling on the couch or in bed whereas it was always a inconvenient with the backbone in that it was never pick up and play and certainly not comfortable for long plays. Long live the Dad Station!
