Ryan, Tho, and Jonathan Newman look at how the state and the media treat homeschooling and why parents are increasingly looking to homeschooling as an alternative.

The fact that public schools, by in large, are soft targets for the violently deranged outcasts of our society is reason enough for me to never send my children there. I could never forgive myself if I sent them to a school and a mass "casualty" event happened there. Security is simply not taken seriously enough at most schools. Likewise, I used to view homeschooled kids as weirdos, but when the modern school aged boy is wearing daisy duke shorts to school and is confused about what he is or isn't; it's pretty easy to figure out what environment is doing more harm to the children.

The odds are low, and the problem isn't public schools or gun laws or gun restrictions, but the drugging and indoctrination of victimization into the children.

This is extremely weak libertarianism. Schools are bad because trannıes? (which only holds true in America, anyway, and even then only in the last five minutes.) Why not something more fundamental, like _people don't consent_ to compulsory schooling? Why can it never be that someone's redpill on school was they realised they can't recall what evidence they saw that convinced them of school in the first place? The current level of thought by libertarians on school is basically the equivalent of "government is bad because it's controlled by Democrats". If you mention homeschooling 100 times for every one time you mention unschooling, and you're still saying forced schooling is good actually as long as it's private, you're missing as big a piece of the puzzle as are all non-libertarians who don't seem to realise there's laws of economics and you can actually have a system for reasoning about things instead of essentially making them up. Plus, libertarians generally view themselves as the most consistent ever believers that human nature exists, so you'd think they'd be all about a Peter Gray view of education (as Stefan Molyneux was).

We get the standard “but what about socialization!?! Those kids need to be socialized!” Well, first I would like to state- Do you see society? Do you see how people act when they do not simply get their way? Second, the skills and experience taught and learned daily while farming is far more socialization than one could ever get in society or at some day job in the city in a cubicle. The indoctrination of what “socialized” and is “standard” that we all have been put under is lunacy and tyrannical. I would argue being able to produce food and goods that others NEED daily and the skills and systems needed to make that happen are far superior to any “socialization” one could learn from public education, yes even the ‘pay to learn’ scheme provided by charter schools is also included in my expression of false social normalities. I would argue being able to produce food and goods is far more normal than standing in line waiting to place an order for some overly tainted and sugar saturated coffee and poison filled breakfast sandwhich, all of which you cannot remotely explain where it came from, how it was produced or even who put hands on it. Much less what’s in it. Ahh education and socialization.

Even with what I was being taught back in the 70s and 80s, I would not want my child to have to suffer through that. Sit down, shut up is not the lesson plan I have in mind. And, yes, it is amazingly easy to find good material to teach these days.

21:19 “Entrepreneurs” like to call this the “10,000 hour Theory”. That at 10,000 hours one can master a task or industry and generate revenue and production. Yet, just because you have studied and implemented something for 10,000 hours does not mean 1. You are doing it correctly. 2. That it is even productive or practical. You must continually learn and adjust as you do so. It isn’t a set amount of hours or a degree for being there everyday to pass whatever test. It is the consistent practice and execution of production that matters in education and industry.

I know my grandparents and parents, although there were many problems with school, had a lot of good teachers. Going through the stories, maybe 65 % or more. I asked them "what about the creeps" and they said they knew who those were and avoided them. Of course, when my father dropped out of HS (as a top student who was in a bad home) he was able to work. He was able to rent. Compulsory schooling, child labor, and ultimately, the right to run away must all be overhauled. It's a rights thing more than an economic thing.
