Good hire, different philosophy with the added bonus of familiarity. The scouting wing of the organization was massively de-emphasized during the Zaidi regime. This is a step in the right direction to correcting the hierarchy, placing a needed check on a bloated and detached analytics department that had tremendous veto power in recent years.

I don’t expect giants to win the World Series every year, but when I have to take out a mortgage to buy a beer…expect the giants to be above .500 once a while.

I could see what Farhan. Was trying to do out of the gate. 3-4 of AAA players he grabbed. But obviously wasn't patience enough. Because several of them are starters on other teams

I believe, when the Giants played in New York, the Giants won World Series more often. The cream of MLB were the Giants and the Yankees. The Yankees have the most MLB titles. The Dodgers have 8 titles vs. 14 losses. The Giants have 8 titles, too, in 20 appearances in World Series history. How great is the gap between the Dodgers and the Giants? It is very difficult to quantify what the Giants need to be on par with the Dodgers baseball organization. Perhaps it begins with OWNERSHIP? I am talking WALTER O'MALLEY and PETER O'MALLEY. There was consistency. The manager was WALTER ALSTON (23 yrs), and Tommy Lasorda (20 yrs). That's what the Giants need to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stability and consistency.
@ldfreitas9437Ай бұрын
The Dodgers were allowed to be bought by a multi-national corporation, Guggenheim Trust, then worth $200 billion, now double that, by Bud Selig. No other, NO OTHER, baseball team is owned by any organization with anywhere near that kind of money. With no salary cap, the Dodgers can afford easily to offer a player like Ohtani a ten year, $1 billion contract.

I realize Buster has no exp. Maybe not as a manager. But from day 1 that he got to bigs was a field general. I am excited talk to me in March. Farhan had rookies feeling like yoyos

Glad to see you back, Ben Just today, I unsubscribed because the KZbin Locked on Giants was dead quiet. I thought your Podcast was more important than some of us listeners on KZbin. I only checked KZbin for any signs of life when Google announced that the Giants have a new GM.

They were all bargain basement ball players, and thats what Farhan Zaidi was all about the cheapest players that he could find, just luck warm players, i thank the lord that Farhan Zaidi is gone!!!

His hands were tied, ownership doesn't like spending.
@ldfreitas9437Ай бұрын
@@RichardBeater_theThird You're right about that. Think about it: Charles Johnson gave the Herschel Walker campaign $40 million two years ago. He also spent a shit-load of cash buying some mansion in Hillsborough to use as a tax dodge, having it "open" to the public, ONLY one day a month based on some lottery, as some sort of museum. It is not like the Filoli House near off 280 near Crystal Springs, operated by a trust and San Mateo County.

@@ldfreitas9437 I'm glad you are here to tell someone else how to spend their own money. Sit down 🤡
@michaelmartinez3500Ай бұрын
@@RichardBeater_theThird No, that's not correct. Giants team payroll was 10th in mlb at $211M, and Zaidi had plenty of resources with little results. Guardians don't like spending with a $93.3M payroll, which is 28th out of 30 teams. However, they made the ALCS and showed less is more, because they respect the game and play it well.
@rafa_v1.0Ай бұрын
I agree with you for once. Maybe it's just me but it seems like a bit of an indictment of Zaidi. It's not the players being drafted, but what's been happening with those players as they move through the system. And maybe not even that but how the big club was being managed with the DFA'd signings, FA signings, and short leash for young players? I don't know if I"m even in the neighborhood on this, it's interesting. I really don't have an opinion about Manasian. The team did go in the direction they said they wanted to go in so that's good. They didn't end up with a FO person that was working on Wall Street 3 years ago. The Haniger/DeSclafani deal was really a good trade. Haniger is owned $17.5mil for one year, Ray is still owed $50mil over 2 years. DeSclafani is off the books. That was a horrible trade trying to solve horrible signings.
@Redpoppy80Ай бұрын
I would say that the Giants need to find an identity again. Zaidi stripped out anything that could be an identity in favor of being a jack of all trades, but unless you are a master of all like in 2021 that is not an identity. It is a FACT that oracle park is not an easy place to hit in having ranked hardest park to hit HR's for 3 years in a row. In a time period where HR's are the meta. That is a horrible stat for luring free agents here so we really need to be more creative in acquiring top-end talent and given where this team is and likely to end up in two years, I don't see how we avoid a rebuild.

I believe Perry Minasian may be the worst GM in baseball. Even though the Angels are towards the top in payroll, they have been maybe the worst team over the past decade. He has been a part of this failure. They no doubt get the award for stupidest contracts given out: Josh Hamilton, CJ Wilson, Albert Pujols, Justin Upton, Anthony Rendon… They hand out long contracts to washed up veterans way past their prime. Trout and Ohtani performed, but they expected that just those 2 would mean automatic success. That’s not how baseball works. Most of all, he could have either offered Ohtani an extension during the 2023 szn or trade him. Instead he chose to do nothing the rest of the szn just to let him walk and get nothing in return. The drafting is also very mediocre (Moniak). The front office doesn’t know how to draft/develop, trade, or sign free agents. All I can say is that I hope his brother has a different philosophy…
@michaelmartinez3500Ай бұрын
We'll see how Minasian does, but your Friedman comparison is premature, bad and unfair expectations. Baseball is in his and his family's genes, so he knows the game, which is good. Also, Dodgers BOUGHT a WS title as one of their many stars finally performed in postseason. As for Giants, they need to train and get defensively sound. To borrow from Bull Durham, strike outs are fascist and hide bad defenders who aren't baseball players. Giants need to scour internat'l market, so the sun never sets on their empire.

Zaidi created a bad culture in SF by bringing in marginal players for cheap, with little fundamentals, who can hit and raised minor leaguers who aren't good but useful as utility players even if they weren't good defensively in some spots. Zaidi's enabled K's, DH's and an HR culture diseasing mlb. Look at Yanks loss-Judge takes his eye off the ball and drops it and Cole doesn't cover 1st. It's Zaidi's philosophy in a nutshell.

IT'S TIME FOR THE GIANTS TO GET NEW OWNERSHIP AND SPEND THE $ THEY NEED TO TO KEEP UP WITH THE GUGGENHEIM TRUST INCORPORATED (WORTH ABOUT $400 BILLION) WHO CAN AFFORD TO BUY UP ALL THE BEST PLAYERS. AND WHY ANY TEAM WANTS TO TRADE THEIR BEST PLAYERS TO THOSE GUGGENHEIM MERCENARIES, AKA LA DODGERS, MAKES ME CRINGE!
