just want the leaker to cut his nails :( in the whole run of the switch, i've collected maybe 20-30 physical games, and bought a digital copy just once. if we do end up with digital-only switch 2, hopefully they mess up somewhere and an exploit is found early on. if I have to go digital, i'm sure as hell gonna be running privately owned backup copies if possible

just imagine what a cool idea but no company would ever do it: digital ownership of game copies, you could buy and play a digital game and when you're done with it you could re-sell it inside the official console store in a dedicated tab for "used" games at a discount, you would get a cut as funds for you account and the console maker would get a cut too. but i'm sure they all want everyone to pay full price for games anyway so... just a pipe dream

The sensor looks to be more like a opitical sensor. Many people are speculating that this sensor will allow you to use the new joy cons like a mouse. So it could be useful for FPS games, strategy games, or games like Mario Maker. In Nintendo's last earnings report they said that that almost 50% of their sales is still physical, and Nintendo has already said that they still strongly support physical especially for the Switch successor. Also in their latest patent that came out December 31st, Nintendo stated in it that can use DLSS or AI upscaling to help reduce the size of the games, especially to help fit games in cartridges. A lot of the PS5/PC/Xbox large game size is due to 4k and other uncompressed files. DLSS will help a lot with getting the larger games to cartridge. Of course, that depends if third party companies finds it worth it. There have also been patents that points to Nintendo making cartridges for the Switch 2. So basically, there is no evidence whatsover of Nintendo trying to go digital only. Nintendo never tries to follow what Playstation or Xbox try to do.

for the backwards compatibility issue concerns, i think we can look at the DS/3DS backwards compatibility mechanisms. the cartridges were different, and the 3DS slot was optimized to hold both DS cartridges and the newer, bigger 3DS ones. The cartridges for the switch 2 could be bigger than the current ones, while the slot itself is able to read both current and future, larger cartridges.

Nintendo was always the one company trying to push physical media - it's not a coincidence that you get most games that aren't brand new for a cheaper price in store than in the eShop. Also they just returned cartridges and since they are based on sd cards size shouldn't be too much of a problem. You can easily make it work with micro sd media and get much more storage out of cheaper options. I am kinda optimistic about that part.

i don't know if i really agree with them "pushing physical media" especially since the stunt of staggering metroid prime release dates for physical and digital. and the fact that they are so litigious about people emulating their old games (or creating reproductions of it.) and they keep their eshop prices on games so high... seems the opposite.

And yeah, I'm all in Nintendo...im not going anywhere. Even if they go all digital. And even if they do that...we got companies like Limited Run capitalizing on this.

Nintendo is Japan first. And Japan is huge on physical. During their last earnings call they said they wanted to maximize sales by offering digital and physical. This worry is not warranted

@ Valid, but I would still have to disagree. Nintendo sticking so close to cultural roots have been both a strength and a weakness over years. They stick to it even to a financial disadvantage at times, but for the most part, it has paid off. And in this specific case, having physical as the primary has help lead to the absolute dominance in Japan. They want to keep it.

as long as you focus on people reliable and dont just believe everything right away you should be fine. This leak fits with multiple leaks that are from credible sources which is why people are following it closely. Same with the leak of the motherboard. There's a lot of doubt in this video thats just not needed. Nintendo will be perfectly fine using ps4 pro equivalent considering how current gen consoles aren't that noticeable of and upgrade. Nintendo using a most likely custom DLSS with it as well it'll be fine.

Also regarding the new carts, yeah. New hardware requiring a change or upgrade to the storage medium is normal. gameboy carts got redesigned every gen 3ds carts are different from ds ones, playstation went from cds to dvds to whatever they use for a disc now. hell at one point nintendo went cartridge to mini cd to regular size disc. And size isnt an issue unless its artificially made one. micro sd cards are smaller than switch cartridges and can hold half a terabyte. a micro sd that holds twice a switch cart should run you maybe $20 max.

so i have actually looked up the Serial system they used in the past and the only thing i really remember is the first letter is Product Line and think its the third letter thats the region. pretty sure the joycons also indicate the left and right in the serial numbers as well for some reason. i mean you cant really put em on backwards but hey lol

the serial number isnt similar to other serial numbers on other nintendo products but is still active and it doesn't look to be edited (ofc it still can be, but that doesn't change that the serial number is unique)

Do people just not read the EULA? You never owned the games. You own a license to play the game. That has been the way it has been forever. Digital vs Physical doesn't change that. The only reason to care about physical copies is because you want to resell the game. As for multiple devices and Nintendo. I don't think you understand how that works when you have multiple switch consoles your primary console can play your digital games without connecting to the internet unless the game is tied to a subscription such as NSO expansion pack virtual consoles. Any secondary devices need to check to see if the game is playing elsewhere because you bought one copy of the game. It's all in all not a bad solution. especially since with a physical copy, you wouldn't be able to play it on two devices unless copied the game which would be illegal if you did it for the purpose of playing it at two places at once. As for Sony. not having a disc version of the PS5 Pro is a cost-cutting measure and has nothing to do with stopping the sale of physical games. Having multiple SKUs costs money. Supply and demand of the disc has more to do with scalpers than anything else and as long as people are willing to pay scalped prices there will be shortages. Don't like it don't buy scalped products. As long as there is a profit incentive scalpers with scalp anything.
