I think anyone who watched the game would have to say the Washington O line played really well. They opened enough holes for two rushing TDs and a handful of first downs. But their pass blocking was elite, especially against a very tough D line.

Solid report. Clear, analysis. It continues to be strange to me that UW is underrated in all their games - I think some of it is "brand recognition" , and from being from the Pac 12. The Pac 12 has been very balanced over the past few years, and so teams beat each other (except this year). People were surprised by Penix, but having watched the team all year, we expect it.

Great, honest, straightforward podcast. I’m a Huskies fan and really had no idea who would win this game. Texas has a very bright future going forward and I wish you all the best. You all are loaded with talent. Penix is a beast. Dude throws frozen ropes on a dime. If Penix is going to throw the ball like that no team is going to beat the Dawgs. It’s too much to overcome and yet Texas darn near did. Great game, Texas Longhorns showed a tremendous amount of heart.

Good analysis. The biggest disappointments for me were (1) the fight in the trenches - Washington O line prevented pressure on Penix and (2) lack of the run game. Quinn needs good protection to be effective; I feel like the coaches should have recognized that and adjusted. I think Quinn has always struggled with pressure - all the way back to high school. He’s much better than last year, but he’s still not there. That being said, he’s a sophomore playing against a sixth year star.

Penix was special because he played a mid defense. Look at how he did against Michigan, 301 total yards and 13 points. Michigan had more rushing yards than they had total 😂.

As a Texas fan I can appreciate Martin Truex Jr. as a excellent thrower of the football 🏈. I feel like Quinn Ewers is capable of playing at a high level considering he models his game after Vince Young and Colt McCoy. Ewers should go through all of his reads not just one receiver.

Future is bright for Texas. They should be stepping into the SEC with an immediate offensive advantage. Ewers should be able to take so many lessons and learning experiences from the semis, and also seeing across the field from Penix how it can be done at a really high level. I expect him to take another leap next year, especially with that pressure sitting on the bench behind him.

People seemed not to prognosticate that the Dawgs played Sweat, Murphy, Ford, Brooks, Thompson, etc last year in the alamo bowl. We played ewers, worthy, OL, etc. Nothing was a surprise. I kept saying we know this Texas front 7 but all I heard was how great Sweat and Murphy were and they'd dominate. They were invisible except for Murphy's TD run. Really shows 99% of you tubers, analysts really don't do the homework necessary to forecast a game. How anyone would take Texas -4 points needs counseling. UW never trailed.
@GovCheez

Respectfully, the fact that Johnson had 21 rushing attempts and averaged 2.3 yards is proof they dominated in run defense. Passing attack did what we all expected it to do, but to say they were non-factors, as a Husky fan myself, is quite delusional.
@justinmoser2598

I will say as a Washington fan, Texas could have kept running the ball and sure probably got a bunch of yards, but Washington's gameplay is to score a lot and quickly and when they have the lead it forces the other team to play that style too. If Texas runs the ball I think what ends up happening is Washington gets the ball with 2 mins or so left tied or maybe down a couple and matches down and wins that way. And then Texas gets the ball back and we have the same situation as what happened
@JoseMartinez-fi7xv

The main reason Texas lost is because of Washington. They brought it and Texas did not. Texas either did not have a good game plan or could not execute their plan due to that relentless Washington pass rush. Another key factor is the Texas O-line did not perform well with too many penalties, missed blocks, etc. Texas was not prepared or better yet, did not adjust properly to counter Washington in the second half.

The fumbles hurt. This game took me back to OU while not the same game in context it’s that edge Washington had over us thru their passing game. One less possession lost by us this game could’ve looked very different. We all knew our DBs were going to struggle and if you watch college football you know Penix is a beast at throwing the football. That’s why I had is only winning by 6 a healthy UW team flows while a Texas team has had to get it right in games all season and you won’t win that way against a team that flows like UW. Sark got flat on play calling and personnel decision in this game on offense but that’s been a narrative of the season I hope he can take another step of growth going into the SEC next year. It was a great year regardless our program is rocking and I’m excited for the future. Hook’Em 🤘🏽

You can blame Ewers for the end of the game but honestly they were very lucky to even have that chance and Texas has not been great in the red zone all year. The fact that Texas had to try and get a TD with 45 seconds left was not Ewers fault. The play calling over all was not great but the fact that Texas did not run the ball more was very confusing. Washington's weakness all year has been tackling and they really needed to take advantage of that and did not. The real reason Texas lost is Penix, Odunze, Polk, McMillan, and Westover and I include blocking in that.

Why? 2 words. Michael Penix. End of discussion. Deboer and Grubb tried to give the game away. Not running on that 3rd down or even taking a knee prior to the field game putting up Dawgs by 9 would've burned another Texas time out. Then knees and you win. Then DJ doesn't get hurt and you walk off the field as the victors. But you give Texas multiple shots to win the game giving me a heart attack. Totally unnecessary

You're actually pretty close. Washington's attack and effortless scoring gets into players and coaches minds. Once they get a lead the opposition has an 'oh shit' moment and thinks they need to shift gears. Well, if you've never played that way consistently you're bound to make mistakes and that's exactly what happened. Sark and the players were pushing in the third and that's when UW started pulling away. The problem with UW is they tend to coast with a lead at the end of a game. Coasting or protecting a lead is not their game. They are a passing machine. They aren't built to slow play. I'm surprised the OC hasn't learned this yet because it almost cost him

Two really good teams, but Texas lost cuz they couldn't get any pressure on Pennix. Surprisingly, nothing up the middle when we have a 270 lb freshman center. Pre game analysis. Ewers completion percentage dropped drastically from the 19-10 and inside the 10. I attached the ESPN splits. His percentage dropped into the 50's and inside the 10, it's in the 40%. While Penix stays above 62% no matter where he is on the field. That was the difference in pre-game analysis. I posted a plethora of these stats on MULTIPLE you tube discussions. IT all came to fruition. Ewers is overrated, sorry.
