From what I understand. Additional lanes for light rail and bike in the plan. No additional lanes for cars will be added. $7.5 billion does not solve the traffic issue. Also they want to have tolls not untill its paid for but for ever. In addition the plan is to have tolls on the there 205 bridge which has been paid for for ever. $7.5 billion and for ever tolls and no additioal lanes for cars?

If they didn't have tolls, it would cost even more, and then opponents would complain about THAT instead!

They need to reconsider a tunnel just up stream and for now keep the old bridge. Portland and Vancouver would suffer permanent economic damage if the I5 crossing was shutdown for the years needed to replace the bridge. Another crossing needs to built before any removal or replacement can start. They have never had a realistic plan or planning group.

The I205 bridge is just 6 miles up the river. a tunnel would be absurdly expensive compared to a bridge

Once they start construction of the bridge, it will get to a certain point where they will realize it is going to cost 5 times more than they calculated, then construction will halt until they find the extra funds. This is the American way. Maybe it will be done by 2039.
