The United States is the sole military super power in the world, but that may not last for long. Other nations are catching up in the new arms race and have dedicated massive military budgets to developing hypersonic missiles! How can the US defend against such high impact and evasive missiles? You'll have to watch today's new video to find out if the US has an answer of it's own.

US leading arms race. Author of this video is an uneducated. Chief of Pentagon M.Esper said "Our hypersonic technology is more advanced than russian and chinese". USA has more difficult work.... USA develope dual-mode scramjet for missiles, russian develope one-mode.....USA develope three-mode engine hypersonic plane by 2025....Russia has even no plan to do it....USA develope high-precision hypers.gliders and succs. tested 2017 ....Russia develope only nuclear glider because can't do precision.....USA glider AGM has size as laptop can be launched from small missile.....Russian gliders has size as a car. can be launched only from ICBM silo...Come on, guys.. Russia and China develope very primitive hypersonic weapon....They leading only in internet propaganda. Hypersonic missile can achieve mach 5 only on high altitudes, at lower altitudes they lost speed to supers\subsonic because higher atm.pressure. Also high precision require low speed.

@@Booboobear-eo4es hypersonic missiles is a deterrent weapons. Things that were much more effective Known. If they have solutions against hypersonic weapons they would announce them to the public that they have and not being secretive about it. In fact they'll propagandize them further. In the Serbian war US lauded their new type of aircraft as Invisible. Ofc this is their propaganda the aircraft is just having low signature against radar and it bleeds the radar emissions necessary to target it with long range SAM effectively. This self propaganda unfortunately effect their operator mindset that eventually lead to their sloppier strategic and tactical planning.

Then the Soviet took it down with state of the art SAM which also happen to be their own secret project. So if the Russian and Chinese can confidently announce to the world of their new strategic capabilities where even the US have not do you seriously think that they too don't have secret capabilities they hadn't announced yet ? Or in other perspective what's the reason the US do not announce their own reciprocal strategic capabilities to balance the strategic deterrence ?

The whole plasma shielded missile thing would be pretty discouraging except radar isn't the only targeting technology in use, IR and optical targeting , laser designators used to "paint" the target etc.... Also the plasma would effect the missile itself as well as defensive weapon systems btw.

The USA has had hypersonic missiles since the late 70s early 80s. We just used it as a space shuttle instead of a weapon. If we had the capacity to do it back then. Imagine what the US has today.

Yes solid Fuel boosters designed for intercontinental rockets to carry the payload to other countries i.e nukes. The reason no other countries used Solid fuel rockets in civilian rockets is because while fairly reliable once ignited they can't be turned off so the mission can't be aborted due to an error or misshap i.e Space shuttle Challanger. As for countering ICBM this is typically done in low Earth Orbit before the missile comes back to earth as this is where it is must vulnerable. Once it stars to come back down it's in the terminal phase and is very difficult to intercept and destroy as it is traveling at over 20,000mph. It's like shooting down a bullet with a bow and arrow. That means all ICBM's are hypersonic but only in on reentry.

The USA actually wrote the book on hypersonic flight since the 1950s beginning with missiles and the X15 rocket plane. The USA also built the world's first hypersonic cruise missile prototypes. They were deemed unnecessary to mass produce at the time. Now that the USA needs them, it will not take long for the USA to build new hypersonic missiles and countermeasures to compete with other nations, if it has not done so already.
@dosidicusgigas1376
@dosidicusgigas1376 2 жыл бұрын
Well said, its important to keep in mind the US doesn't have a need for basic hypersonic missles since they aren't expanding their nuclear arsenal, so said missles would only carry conventional munitions. The US is working on hypersonic glide vehicles though, which are much more accurate than traditional cruise missles so it's more useful for regular warheads. Plus Chinese military tech is advanced but they don't have the experience to use it effectively. They haven't been at war in forever and in WW2 they got slaughtered, until China acquires decades of much needed warfare experience, they shouldn't even be thinking of taking on an actual superpower.

(LRHW) successfully tested publicly three times in 2017. They just announced that the Zumwalt destroyers was "not working" because they are replacing one of the 155mm cannons, to instead accommodate six 34.5" Diameter Long range Hypersonic weapons, it is a 16000-17000lb missile that travels at Mach 17+, before deploying a Hypersonic glide vehicle that accelerates past mach 20. It is just the continuation of the 1980s perishing 3 concept. The missile even operates perfectly in the old perishing II launch vehicles, the Army have had laying around in warehouses since the 1991 Salt 2 act.

Same goes for China. At the time you wrote your comment China's already an economic and military powerhouse that's making massive strides towards superpower status if it hasn't already become one. China's an industrial powerhouse just like the USA and will also build more hypersonic missiles that are more advanced and will likely make countermeasures for them but they're likely classified because it's best for China to not go around saying "We have this thing" and let the US know so they can make a countermeasure for it.

SPRINT-NIKE was a great platform - as an ABMDWS. The ban on anti-ballistic missile systems was for the simple fact that SPRINT couldn't be targeted after launch. It was hypersonic and shrouded in plasma after .3 of a second. In fact, it's because of SPRINT-NIKE, that the ITABMDWS exists, and MAD was adopted as the Nuclear deterrent. It seems like a couple of easy solutions here. If you know the range the subs need to be to fire, move your own subs out there. If hypersonic missiles create a heated plasma that scrambles regular radar, use infrared search and track. Those missiles should be glowing with all the heat they're creating by moving thru the air so fast. I seriously doubt the Navy is so easily overcome as shown here. But I could be wrong.

The railgun failed and was scrapped so maybe you opened your mouth too soon, 2 months after your comment the US shelved Railguns as they couldn't over come the present problems with today's technology and many billions of $$$ were wasted or maybe they will pick it up again in the future. Who knows, but besides test platforms none of the ships have railguns. So the very effective railgun as you quote is officially a complete failure.

At Mach 11 even a small turn to avoid defenses takes you miles off target and it’s not easy to get back on to that target. After all, the missile is moving at Mach 11. It’s not like the missile can do a 90 degree turn at that speed to get back on target. Remember, even hypersonic missiles have to obey the laws of physics. In other words, there are limits as to how maneuverable a hypersonic missile can be and still hit its target.

The trouble with hypersonic weapons is that the plasma also effectively blinds the missiles onboard targeting capabilities - the missiles can be outmanoeuvred in certain cases. And as for the stealth capabilities of hypersonic weapons via the plasma sheath, in reality it's something that can be countered by linking infra red/optical, different frequency radar and multiple radars to give a very accurate weapons track. It's not simple, but well within the capabilities of the US. These are very dangerous weapons, but they are by no means the end of US naval supremacy. A real problem though would be a true stealth missile...
@innocento.1552

@@innocento.1552 It is reasonably easy to make a stealthy missile, but a true stealth missile is still elusive: you need to be able to defeat radar, infra red and optical sensors - at a certain range stealth is lost, but by that stage it may well be too late. But probably the best way to hit a ship is to have all these different types of missiles hit it. Still, hypersonic weapons are another threat that has to be respected and countered, but it is by no means (at least for now) a total game changer.
@michaelagee848

Outside of CIWS defense systems, missile defense systems don't rely on direct hits to neutralize targets so an exact radar lock is not necessary to engage a target. I imagine there's a software work around for the plasma issue.

Guess what? Enemy missile radar can’t track their targets through plasma as well. It is blind. Secondly, the Aegis system can detect the air shockwave in front of the missiles on radar, as the super dense air creates a radar return. Missiles and CIWS can now use inputs from thermal sensors for guidance. Thermal sensors can easily track a hypersonic missile.

If you were to have LIDAR as a secondary detection system that works in conjunction with machine learning models and a driver model to determine which models to utilize. Then you could accurately predict where the missile is going to be. If you were to have the missile set to self destruct before it reaches the incoming missile, then the shrapnel packed into the missiles housing could take out the incoming missile/target. Of course for maximum destruction of the missile/target the missile should be designed to spread as much shrapnel as possible in an efficent and effective dispersion field. In terms of LIDAR positioning, UVA'S could operate overhead and provide realtime LIDAR data in conjunction with other LIDAR sources from the air defense system(s).

Please keep in mind our goal was accomplished in Afghanistan and Iraq; Osama is dead and the Taliban is somewhat of a joke at this point who can only mount pathetic harassment attacks and hide IED’s on routes the U.S and her allies frequently travel. In Iraq, we got rid of Saddam and his entire regime, which was our main goal. Vietnam… everyone loves to say we lost that war but anyone who knows a little bit about it, knows that the policies the pencil pushers at the pentagon imposed would not allow our military to fight anywhere but in Vietnam. VC knew that and hid in neighboring countries, we knew where they were but due to these policies we were unable to mount offensive operations. Even with all of those restrictions the death count was staggering for the VC, over 1,000,000 dead VC compared to 50-60,000 U.S deaths. The numbers speak for themselves in my opinion.

If there’s a plasma thing around the rocket wouldn’t it make the same effect for the rocket as the defense system. It would lose the target, or even any type of signal from the interior as well as the exterior

So the hypersonic missiles have a super headed plasma that causes radar lock issues, surely the missiles themselves will have radar lock issues too due to the plasma in front. Also, heat seeker missiles in this case can be used.

You sink a carrier group, and you’re guaranteed some nukes back.

Anyone capable of sinking a carrier group can send a retaliatory nuke strike. The guaranteed nuke thing is psychological.

Except, United States gets destroyed. But can probably rebuild within a few decades. But Chinese population would be 99.9 percent extinct. PRC would never come back. Thr unprovoked sinking of carrier group, is about as foolhardy as launching a nuke.

The main problem with all these that most of this equipment is actually overcomplicated just like Germanys tank in ww2 which caused them to have to use most of the calvary in horses and less complicated tanks fuel to the mechanical failures once in went into battle. Bottom line is that most of these new weapons won't be used and will probably malfunction during battle

personally the only way to defend against hypersonic missiles is to create an energy weapon with a wide blast that can stun it out of the air.

You could counter it if you made a supersonic middle that has a pre radar guided targeting system then switches to a thermal one, the extreme heat would give it a longer range precise lock on it
