I was going to change my xt5 for the xh2 because of the grip issues, but I got the l bracket from smallrig and it fix the problem. Also the best thing about the xt5 is you can downsize it if you want to travel with the Fujicrones. Nice video keep on the good content!

I tried the Xt5, and sent it back as it was too heavy of a camera for me. When you add a larger lens to it I just can’t see how it’s comfortable to use for long periods of time. I went with the Xt30ii, and the weight is terrific. Sure the Xt5 has better specs but both take excellent photos.

I am fortunate enough to have the XH2 and the XT5, they have different use case scenarios, the XT5 is 100% my street photography/walk around body and the XH2 is my portrait/work body. They are both excellent cameras for different reasons with the same amazing image quality.

I am contemplating which to buy. My main grudge is the EVF on the XT5. I have a XT2 and the EVF infuriates me. I was hoping the XT5 would have the best EVF possible but that was left on the H2…. So now I’m between XT5 or keeping XT2 + XH2

Comically, I happened across a 1946 click X-T2 in the used case at a local shop yesterday, for the price (they negotiate) i walked away with it. I figured that I could use it as a street photography or loaner cam for when one of my friends would like to try Fuji. Cleaned it up, updated the body and lens firmware (Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC DN) and so far, it feels like a steal. The main reason I would ditch the X-T2 if it was my main camera would be missing IBIS for low light handheld at slower SS. Is there anything wrong with your current X-T2? If not, keep it and use the money for adventure to enjoy it. GAS can be a financial boat anchor for enjoyment of photography! Always working to pay for gear instead of using it. 😂

@@mattmuscat7934 the manual controls for me lend to a more laid back shooting style, albeit, you can set ISO and SS to use the dials. The XH2 is laid out like a more traditional DSLR which makes production work more fluid and efficient.

Is the grip on the XT-5 usable for medium sized hands? I heard it got bigger from previous X-T lines. Literally one of the main reasons I want to get the XH-2 is for the grip. Also, is the perception of quality noticeable from the two cameras?

Hello! Great video. This may have come up already, but you can lock the drive setting so that the switch under iso doesn't annoy you. Go to the wrench icon > go to the very last option "lock" on p. 3 of 3 > go into "function selection and check "drive setting" (and any others you would like to lock) > then pick "lock setting" and choose "selected function". this will lock the dial so that it stays in the drive setting you had selected when you locked it even if you accidentally switch the dial.

I am so in love with the xt5. It helps me achieve exactly what I want in my photography. I agree that the mode switcher is annoying as well. I do shoot video with it and it does a fantastic job but I’m about 85% photography and 15% video. It was a no brainer to pick this camera up with that figure in mind. The 40mp was one of the main reasons I wanted it. I love the freedom to crop. It makes it so I can confidently leave the house with one lens, the one on my camera. It’s such a breath of fresh air to only carry a camera and not a whole bag full of gear.

I've used this camera for one year, I'd like to focus on cons first, because the strong points are quite obvious: 1. The evf may glitch when the camera is used under pressure. It's a rare occasion. 2. Sometimes I can change the shooting mode just like you do or even switch to the movie mode. 3. The lack of vertical grip is not a good thing for photography. I will however dwell on one positive point, it is a truly hybrid camera, because it can be almost any camera you want it to be. If you put a 27 mm pancake, it's a small and compact low profile camera. However you may use this camera with an external grip (unfortunately not vertical) and 150-600 or 90 mm lens, and it will be a totally different camera. You can also give up the analogue controls and use the customizable wheels and you'll use it like a pasm camera. I also like the variety of fuji lenses and overall experience with the system. I think my dream combo would be an x-pro4 with 40 mp sensor and the x-h3s with the global shutter.

I do struggle a lot with changing the shooting mode by accident when changing the ISO or even gripping the camera the wrong way. Trying it out now, that dial does have quite a bit of resistance, so I’m not sure what is going on. I think I might be hitting the dial's little nub (facing towards the front of the camera when on “S” mode) when I turn the ISO dial on top, especially when increasing the ISO value (then hitting the mode nub will shift it from “S” to “HDR”). So I need to remember to grip the ISO dial by its top edge, rather than the full height of the cylinder shape.
@matt88169
@matt88169 11 ай бұрын
I agree with you. I’d add that Fuji screwed up this generation. I think the XH2 shouldn’t exist, it should have been the XT5 - 40mp sensor, better EVF and buffer, vertical grip, “flagship” build quality. The XH2S should have the better video/stacked sensor etc-but should have retained a shutter/ISO dial since now it’s lost some of is X-series-ness. I don’t want a global shutter, I want better dynamic range / high ISO performance. XT3 is for me an amazing camera but the mushiness when the lighting gets poor and ISO goes up is sometimes very limiting or means no large prints. The 40mp sensor got noisier and the readout is worse. The stacked sensor also got noisier and didn’t improve IQ in any meaningful way. I’d accept a 12-20mp sensor at this point if I could have the speed and AF of the XH2S and ISO performance rivaling a FF camera. Finally, I use big lenses with the grilled XT3. But using a flash is usually critical-people seem to overlook that. XT3 with a big flash and small lens is not a comfortable setup. Fuji makes bigger, heavier lenses, and needs to make it viable for more than 1 body to use them. Basically, I’m skipping the XT5 because it clearly IS NOT for photographers-certainly not those buying Fuji’s best lenses and hoping to do real work with them.

For the photography I do, the XT5 is a big downgrade, unfortunately. The XT3 is IMO a much better camera. For the 5th gen it would have to be an XH series, but frankly BS like buying CF express cards, chargers, and way overpriced grips, combined with dial deletes and non-clickable wheels means I’ll be waiting a good long time before I consider one-the package price is pushing $3k and the performance just doesn’t justify that given alternatives. Sorry Fuji. On the other hand, the newer lenses have been amazing, so now I just need my body to last a few more years. Maybe Fuji will give us an option next time for a lower MP with superior readout and noise performance. Dare to dream.

Got myself a Panasonic S5 II, which if we compare all specs would be a better camera, but the feeling is that it does not compel me to take pictures. Modern cameras are too perfect which is a problem if you wish to be a bit more elaborate with creativity picking things out of focus or not wanting to look at the camera screen (which I am not enjoying with the Panasonic). I moved from the XS-10 to the pana and will now sell it to either buy the XT5 or wait for the XPRO4. Again, I am not a professional, maybe if you work with your camera, something a bit more like Sony or Panasonic could be a "safer" choice.

Great video and helped me a lot deciding that the xt5 will be my replacer for the xpro3. I have just a major concern, maybe you can help me: I’ve read that due the higher density pixel sensor (40mp); the xt5 is more sensible to high isos than the previous sensor. I hear you guys saying that you can go up to 6400 iso and damn, I’m used to deal with higher isos in my xpro3 like 8.000, 10.000… ok, I’ve to do some noise cleaning but those are usable to me (no large prints or so). Max 6.400 is the top for you because you want clean images? How unusable is 12.000 on the xt5? Thank you
@rudermanphoto
@rudermanphoto 8 ай бұрын
It’s not unusable, 12800 ISO produces alright images, if I HAD to use it I would, but I personally prefer under 6400 as that’s where I feel the colours and look of the image remain mostly intact, it all depends on your tolerance for what you’d consider usable - some people might find 25600 fine if you make it black and white and like the grain etc. I don’t think the XH2s is much better either, maybe a bit but I still wouldn’t consider that all that amazing at 12800+ iso - nothing compared to what my old R6 was capable of and probably most modern full frame mirrorless systems can deliver.

@rudermanphoto
@rudermanphoto 11 ай бұрын
While I haven't personally used an X-T2, I would imagine areas you'd see the biggest improvement in is autofocus performance, the AF performance between my X-Pro 2 and the X-T5 was absolute night and day, the X-T5's AF ensures almost all the photos I take are more or less in focus, with the X-Pro 2 it was like a 60-70% keeper rate if that. Secondly is battery life, the new W235 batteries are astounding and you can easily get 800-1000 shots per charge, although if you have a bunch of spare batteries maybe thats not a concern to you. Low light performance too would probably be greatly improved as well. Areas where you may notice a downgrade would be probably in the build quality if what reviewers say is true. With all that said, I encountered something interesting when switching from my 5d Mark 3 to an R6, I thought I was going to get exponentially better image quality due to the many years of advancements between both cameras, but in ideal conditions I noticed the images actually looked fairly similar, the same can be said for the X-Pro 2 vs X-T5 comparsion, in ideal conditions, no I don't really think there is that big a difference between the photos they can take - the difference is just what is considered "ideal" for either camera, the XT5 is going to be able to deliver these "ideal" photos far more frequently thanks to better AF, better low light performance etc. I hope that makes sense haha

I figure I'll just get a cheap monitor or wing it with a test shot when filming myself. Is this a big mistake or think it'll be okay?
@rudermanphoto
@rudermanphoto 11 ай бұрын
The biggest issue with using an external monitor is you need to deal with Micro HDMI cables which are so fragile, that’s why I love the full size HDMI on the XH2/s cameras haha But if you’re ok with that and if you are just occasionally filming yourself it should be fine - the video quality as you can see from the beginning portion where I filmed myself in the kitchen is pretty close to the XH2s when you are just in a static shot in a well lit room - even the video AF tracking on my face wasn’t too bad either, the differences really present themselves when filming moving subjects or when you need more dynamic range in bright or very dark situations.

A couple ways to see yourself: -Connect the X-T5 to your phone wirelessly (if your phone supports 5G, then make sure to set the X-T5 to 5G) -Buy a cheap mirror accessory that goes on the shoe mount, such as the "UURig Vlog Selfie Flip Screen" or other brand

@@SquirrelHybrid - how do you connect wirelessly to use as just a video recording monitor? I played with the new XApp when I rented the camera, but I could only record in 1080p 30 using the app. That's okay, but I'd prefer to just use it as a monitor and record in 4k if possible.

Hi: Having had both an X-T4, X-H1, & myriad other XT, XE before it, I decided on my last upgrade to buy an X-H2. Maybe because I've got larger hands, I found the X-T4, even with battery grip, let alone the small-rig grip, far less comfortable to use, particularly with the F2.8 zoom lenses, over any extended photo shoots. For walkabout/street photography, I've retained my old X-Pro2, which I find entirely adequate especially when used with either of one of the original XF35F1.4/XF18F2 primes. Also don't knock the X-S10/20, they work brilliantly for "stills" photography, and are a much cheaper option, having a great grip & are great blogging cameras, so I've been told. You don't really need a 40mp camera, unless you're into very large prints (I only do very occasionally), or like heavy "cropping".

Unfortunately the XS series of cameras doesn’t work for me because I don’t like using cameras without dual card slots - but they do look alright, if not a little uninspired, I’d love to try one out as a little vlog style camera sometime in the future though. I loved my X-Pro 2 but hated how mediocre the autofocus performance was especially after comparing it with the XT5. Perhaps an X-Pro 3 would have been a nice compromise but they cost around what an XT5 costs brand new and I wasn’t too fond on the screen on it either.

I tried several custom setups for the X-H2 but as my other camera is an X100VI it makes sense to have 2 very similar cameras to help with muscle memory and also the sheer fun of using a camera with tactile dials. You won’t be disappointed with the X-T5. Also one feature that almost swayed me to the Nikon ZF with its quick B&White mode switch can be easily replicated on Fuji but better. I use Fuji and I'd say that using the retro dials is definitely not faster than just changing ISO and shutter with the command dials.

Because it’s quicker to go between big jumps of settings with the dials - I personally find it quicker, and I can easily adjust them while looking through the EVF as well. So? What do you think those lock buttons on top of the dials are for? Man, you dropped the ball.
@rudermanphoto

If you watch the video you’ll notice locking the top dial does not actually lock the mode selector below it, it just locks the dial itself. You can lock it in software which is something someone else pointed out after I posted the video though.

Great video but my American-accented brain is *just* keeping up with the speed of your delivery. Just a thought -- if you perhaps let your edit and pacing breathe a bit, some of our brains may benefit from that extra CPU time to "process" your points as you make them, and as a bonus you might be a little more understandable among all English speakers across the planet.

I think if you already own an XT4 there isn’t really any reason to upgrade to the XT5, it’s more if you have an XT3 or no Fuji camera at all that I’d say the XT5 is the one to get just to have the most up to date AF performance and features.

I own XT4 and XH2S but going to give the XT5 a miss due to diminished build quality and no discernible improvement on EVF from XT3. I’m convinced the XT5 was an upgrade path for XT3 customers and not XT4 customers. Fuji knew XT3 owners weren’t buying the XT4 due to the rear screen.
@rudermanphoto
@rudermanphoto 11 ай бұрын
Yeah if I had the XT4 I wouldn’t upgrade either - I think the XT5 was more just them trying to make the XT series return to being more photography oriented since the XT4 was the most “video focused” XT camera ever with that screen, and now that they have the XH cameras to be the hybrid cameras there’s no need to make the XT cameras be as good for video. That said I think if you don’t own any Fuji at all I’d still go the XT5 over any older model just to have the latest and greatest AF performance and low light performance too.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to wait for the XT6 which, hopefully, will have faster and far more precise autofocusing than the XT5? Fujifilm are still lagging behind Sony and Canon in this respect. They’ve sadly abandoned their initial Kaizen philosophy with firmware updates now limited to bug fixing and ensuring compatibility with any new lenses that they release. This effectively means waiting for the next iteration of their camera bodies to get any appreciable improvements. As a very early adopter I miss the old days and the mystique surrounding their early product line. Things just aren’t the same anymore since Fujifilm became mainstream. Ricoh seems to be the only company left that continues to provide meaningful firmware upgrades to their GRIII line that was released 5 years ago. They still embrace the Kaizen philosophy to the benefit of their customers.

Sure, and I’m sure the XT7 will have even better autofocus then the XT6, but if you wait and hold out for a new camera every time in hopes of achieving some marginal improvement you will be without a camera and not taking any photos ;) The XT5 is great, the autofocus is good enough and I think it’s perfectly acceptable for 90% of photographers, unless you are shooting sport or wildlife and demand unbelievable AF performance in which case buy a Canon/Sony/Nikon. I doubt the XT6’s autofocus will be as good as any of the full frame mirrorless options anyway, but you don’t buy a Fuji for its blistering AF performance you buy it for the experience and fun of shooting with it.

@@rudermanphoto I bought an X-T1 as soon as it came out and I did the same when the X-T3 came out, so I’m well aware of how enjoyable it is to use this camera. I am however disappointed in the fact that Fujifilm seem to have a problem keeping up with their competitors. Perhaps marketing far too many different camera body types (relative to the size of their company) has stretched their engineering team too thin to bring their “core” cameras (like the X-T_ line) to the next level. I own and use Nikon and Leica equipment i.e. horses for courses, so I’m not wanting for high end gear. I just believe that Fujifilm could do better for their customers, many of whom like me, were early adopters of their cameras.

@@Opinions-from-YUL while you’ve got a point that they don’t keep up with competitors they are also not quite priced like competitors either, the cost of a new Z8 and 24-70 is 10.5k aud, for which price I could buy an XT5, XH2s, 16-55 2.8, 18 1.4, 50 1.0 AND 90 f2. These are all flagship lenses, no budget options either. The value for money and enjoyment prospect is what drew me to switch from Canon and while the performance certainly isn’t as good as the competitors they aren’t priced the same anyway so it’s not exactly surprising that’s the case. I have a review for the X-Pro 1 releasing this week and that’s a camera which I have thoroughly enjoyed using despite its age, I feel like it still holds up great even today, I have no doubt the XT5 will likely also be just as great in 5-10 years time too.

@@rudermanphoto You’re right, the Fujifilm cameras have a much lower price point so they are absolute bargains and good value for the money. Their glass is good too. I’ve no complaints there. I still use my X-T3 and I’ll continue doing so. I don’t however think that the X-T6 is where I would like it to be to entice me to replace my X-T3.
