I have been collecting books for less than a year, and am still very much an amateur as you can tell by this video lol

Okay, sorry about 2 comments, but I am definitely into the physical attributes of a book. I love a leather book that has more hubs than it needs, like, that thing is NOT slipping out of your hand. Not too large of a book, easy to hoist with tree-like pages with a really crisp flip when you thumb through them. And... the smell. That pure, natural, rustic breeze that comes from a finely crafted tome. And yes, I have a Kindle, when I think of a book I want to read I want it immediately.

I found out long ago when I was 14 and read "Frankenstein:Prometheus Unbound", "Invisible Man", "Dracula", etc.....I love different movie versions, but most of the book originals were of a more intimate nature given to the interaction aspect when reading. I purchased these at used bookstores, mostly in cheap paperbacks. It was still so nice to form the bond between the author and reader.....Then again, I've had collectable editions and appreciated the beauty of their bindings and Art. It's like an old friend whispering stories to you from the past. Connection.

I fell in love with illustrations from great books since I was very young. As an adult I have been collecting the original illustrations from many classic books. This week I got several of Ronald Embleton's originals from THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS and NICKOLAS NICKELBY.

SORRY! Sorry everyone, I'm sorry... 3 comments is absurd, BUT, in answer to your question, Easton Press is 99% of what I collect. However, if they never published certain titles I will go after the best copy I can find. Watership Down comes to mind and a book I would love to hear your opinion of that serial killer favorite The Catcher in the Rye. I can see why they liked it, JD Salinger had broken brains just like them.

Folio Society does do LE’s. They do a small handful each year and they usually sell out quickly. They had an updated version of your Monte Cristo about 5 years ago and that was an LE.

Oooh. Suntup edition of Misery nice. I love the little things Paul did with those edition. And CD's The Shining is a good one too. Sad that you don't read them though, they're great reads. The numbered editions of Suntups further immerse me in the books. But definitely give Misery a go those little additions just immerse you furhter in the story. Though it is expensive now, yeah.

the single biggest advantage to Folio and Easton is they are printed, and bound either in the UK, or US... sometimes Italy.. Not China, or some other 3rd world sweat shop where the labor and materials are inferior... that is the major reason they cost so much more.

Yes, but Franklin Library has better quality illustrations within;, unless, you get the most recent Easton Press book releases (I collect both Franklin Library and Easton Press, as well as others)_. which run into 100's of dollars- which I also get.

Easton Press books are way beyond my budget, but I do collect Folio Society editions. I have the Earthsea books they've released so far, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Hobbit. The Silmarrilion is on the way and I have The Lord of the Ring set in my Wish List.

Yeah I get books to read or read again, usually long reading on a ebook strains my eyes, wish I didn’t have that problem. The best editions I have so far are a few Easton Press & a few Thornwillow, I have my first two Folio Society’s coming in the mail.

I’ve been reading on my iPad (Kindle app) for years and have tons of nonfiction real books that are mostly lowest quality printing, and I haven’t touched one in quite some time. However, I’m a couple years from retirement and have a bunch of books I really want to read. I just am finishing up spending thousands of dollars on Folio Society, and Easton Press books and will have thousands of hours to actually read them. Unless I am traveling, I’ll be reading these beautiful books, mostly split between classics, science fiction, science, and history. The first Easton Press book I got was Fahrenheit 451, bound in beautiful red leather with gold embossing on the front of a book going up in flames. I thought, what a great way to get back to reading physical books than with this particular book in a nice edition. I agree about how nice e-readers are (e.g., not having to worry about font size, lighting, etc.), including that you can carry your whole library with you and read what you want, when you want. You can also get word definitions at a press, and jump to, say, footnotes and back with a simple tap. However, sitting down in a comfortable chair with a great book and a beverage of your choice, with no electronics on to distract you is a great cure for living in this ADD inducing world we live in. Thanks for your video!

@@WhytheBookWins Hmm. Maybe in the not so distant future, when we all have color 🌈 eReaders they'll start including more pictures. That wouldn't work very well in the profit over everything, market driven world of Amazon because illustrations are valuable. Maybe once we are beyond that frontier and the e-ink refresh rate increases, we could make GIF animated illustrations that do simple, seamless loops.
