As a Hublot collector I see that as an absolute win.

I'm really liking that high quality pressed clasp, plastic movement retainer and 12 cent quartz movement on the designer Marc Jacobs watch. Nice vid!

I have a couple casio. I wore to duro for 2 years. I rotate the a700w frequently. I have a casio edifice as a beater. Casio makes good stuff for the money.

I bought my Casio W800 in about the last quarter of 2010 or the first quarter of 2011, as a "beater" for my job. I didn't wear it for a long time, as my life made a turn, so no lighting, no hourly singals (I hate that anyway so I switched it off), no wake up alarms. Yet it goes on the same battery, for 12+, maybe 13 years by now. Great stuff, I was everywhere in the world where my cruise ship stopped and noone ever wanted to rip it off my arm, it's not a desireable watch to steal, rob. An another plus for the plastic Casio.

Fashion brand watches are just fancy branded Chinese $10 watches that are sold for 3000% of what they actually worth. That's all. No secret here.

I made a AliExpress watch for $110 with a ST2130. It didnt keep good time. But inthink they skip on the lube. So I lubed all accessible pivots and regulated it. The on wrist regulation is a consistent +1s/d.

That's cool, I got a heap of new parts from eBay and a sw200 movement to build a pilot watch for a video I am yet to complete it.

Most of them are a nasty alloy that is electroplated with gold or stainless to give it that finish. They also have a Miyota 2035 if you are lucky. Not all of them of course but many use some form or another of that movement in 3 hander fashion watches. That looks like a copy of the Miyota. I don't see a gasket on that back plate either. Id rather have a cheap Casio that a fashion brand. The Duro has seals on the stem and on the case back. You probably could swap them if it wasn't for the fact that most of those have a glued watch dial fixed to the movement.
@adevopus65876 ай бұрын
Agree with your point. But unfair comparison. The marc Jacobs watch is clearly fake, the case and chain are of alloy material. The machine used is sl68 (or a neighbouring model) by sunon. Quite literally (not exaggerating) the said watch must sell for a wholesale price of 1 dollar usd. I am in the watch business of spares and low end watches distribution. So i can State this confidently.

What I wanna know is how often you go diving down to 50-100m depth since it seems so important with water depth resistance. If I had a more expensive watch I wouldn't go into the ocean water with it at all to begin with, most of mine do have it since they're quality brands, but I never considered it a factor when buying them, it's purely based on looks.
@thewatchcatcher3322 Жыл бұрын
The water resistant level relates to the quality of the watch case build itself more so then oh I can go diving 50m. For example the back on that just pops on and off, so if it fell off your wrist onto the ground it'll most likely pop open and could damage the watch and movement, also the crystals aren't always good materials so can scratch easy and or break. And a 30m rating doesn't mean it can withstand that, it has no o-ring seals on the back or crown and no screw crown so washing your hands could be enough to have a water leak and ruin the movement inside and your expensive watch. So yeah water resistance rating is important.

@@thewatchcatcher3322 Fair enough, quality brands do tend to have them so it makes sense.

@@thewatchcatcher3322 but Vostok komandirskie watches rated to 20m have screw down crowns with a gasket and screw down case backs with a gasket and a compound curved crystal designed to seal better the deeper under water it gets. Is it waterproof up to 20metres? I don't know but you can bathe, shower and dive 2m deep without leaks because I have done it.

hi, I'm a watchmaker, very good video, everything you said Is spot on, only one thing, the Marc by Marc Jacobs watch you have there is a fake, the real ones albeit being still an huge ripoff, are made from stainless steel, cheaply plated or in plain stainless steel, and this is made from the cheapest alloy, only the caseback is real stainless steel. the movement they use are usually a PC21, like the one in the Mandalorian and the Ferrari, and in some instances the Miyota 2035 family, like the one in the Casio Marlin you have. this fake Marc Jacobs has a rubbish Chinese movement, usually noname or made by Sunon, a very cheap and ugly disposable movement, worse than the PC21 wich is still disposable but quite better, the Miyota (Citizen) 2035 family is good, not expensive, and serviceable (even though costs so little that replacing it it's way less expensive than service it, around 7 euro for the movement whole, where the PC21 is around 3 to 4 euro...) keep up with these rather informative and interesting videos!

Thankyou for your very informative breakdown of the movements.
