Best and cheapest scan tool to diagnose a p0686 and p0687 codes in an 04 Saab 93 ARC? I have the basic Ob2 scanner. I'm thinking I may need one with bidirectional testing and/or additional features to narrow down what exactly the problem is. Engine light is throwing those 2 codes constantly. I checked/swapped relays with my donor car, seem fine. I'm thinking it's possible the ECU. I have a 04 Saab 93donor car with a good ECU but it needs to be flashed. I put it in and when I tried to start it, wouldn't turn over. So a device that'll flash that as well would be great. If you can, don't send me a link, just specify a particular model or type. I could shop around and find the cheapest one available. I know a few places that sell them significantly cheaper than eBay and Amazon.. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would get a d8s but be careful with sites like aliexpress and others I have dad viewers complain about fakes. I would buy from Amazon as you get a free return if it doesn’t cut it. Also, email the vendor your vin and ask for a list of supported features for you Saab. Good luck and keep me posted.

Anytime, a bad pcm is very rare and infact I have only come across it once. There is more of chance of damaging it when you are swapping it out.

I’m watching this because I’m surprised by the negative feedback. I’ve owned this for just over 3 years and it’s been an absolute legend! Everyone who I demo it to wants one. One thing I will say, is when I bought mine I got 3 years of updates with it and although it’s run out and it makes me an offer every now and again, it still works 100%. The only real problem I have is you can’t put it in landscape mode, but then again it’s not supposed to replace your main machine.

Thank you for the feedback. App based scan tools will not replace a standard scan tool the application based scan tools are limited. For very basic task it can be successful but because of the small screens of our phones I personally hate them. Additionally the fees are very steep. Well when the subscription ends the you need renew. If you watched the video this one of the main reasons I normally recommend an actual scan tool as some of those will continue to operate but you won’t get additional updates . Plus it comes with three years of updates included. Let me know need a recommendation for a scan tool.

Yes, the app is free to download with Bluetooth scan tool, you have buy the device and then you have to pay each year. I think a real scan tool might be a better option Let me know if you need a recommendation

Yes, depending on the vehicle , on my dodge it’s under the oe side of dodge under live data and then select pcm odometer and on my Toyota I have to run a health report and then it will show on the report. You will have to pay after two years of you want to keep your updates. As far as your nissan I think nissan is a little of pickles like chrysler when it comes to scan tools and not many scans are compatible with newer Nissans. I don’t imagine the nissan supported scan tools are cheap currently. You may want to look a nissan specific software but they tools will only work for nissan and not other brands. I have a 2014 dodge caravan as well. Don’t know much about the product your mentioned but it sounds like a obd2 reader. @cinepost normally obd2 readers show only live data field around 40 of them, with scan tools you have see live data on the dodge side and see live data from 200 plus fields. You can also email them before buying to reassure yourself. The data you get from make of vehicle is different so it may not be a bad idea to reach out to them. If you change your fans from mechanical fans to electric fans than your will need a way of controlling the fans. I am afraid that this tool won’t be of any help. No scan tool can really help in this regard as you make an aftermarket modification. What is the year of your vehicle? Why do you want to make this modification?

@RANDOMFIX I have 2003 gmc Yukon xl 2500 6.0l The temperature rises when stopped, even though I replaced the radiator, water pump and fan clutch and the temperature still rises and the air conditioning does not cool down except while driving the car, everything is excellent

@a.m-gh7876 is the fan turning on? The mechanical fans have a clutch that should engage but the clutch after 21 years car be worn out. When stop is the air conditioner running? Is the air condenser fan turning on? Is there any blockage before the fan? Lastly, did you replace the radiator cap? Make sure you are using the an oem radiator cap and also if replace the coolant reservoir cap if it’s a closed system. Keep the fan on is one way, the other is remove the thermostat but just know this can trigger a check engine light and may keep you from passing an emissions test if it applies in your state. Keep me posted on the cause and best of luck .

@RANDOMFIX We live in a high temperature of 40 to 50 degrees Celsius. As for the fan clutch, it was changed a year ago and still is. If it stops for 10 minutes and the air conditioner is on, the temperature rises and the air conditioner’s coolness decreases. If I raise the RPM, the temperature drops to normal and the air conditioner runs excellent.

@a.m-gh7876 the air conditioning worked better when the rpm is higher because the ac compressor is Probably not in best state. Your cooking system is like a pressure cooker, make sure they are not leaks. Are the fan shrouds in place to help the air move? These are the black plastic trim pieces are the radiator. Without these the radiator fan can’t create much suction.

I have not tried either one on a Nissan. I would encourage getting an actual scan tool that come with many years of service and even when the updates expire you can still use it. @@RANDOMFIX it's unclear whether it still works after a year, whether U have to hook up to their database or whether that's just for update on newer cars. The crankcase relearn for a 2002 Buick century - all I am really after-isn't ever going to change. But it's Burried, it's not upfront. And it's not even clear and straightforward which models have the relearn capabilities. But thanks for the video, it helps
