His outlook to reading actually made me think and appreciate how important writing is. That single sentance of 'It's amazing what we have written down', kind of inspires me to write down some of my thoughts and publish it, no matter how unrefined I think my writing is. As humans, we do not have the special capability some animals have of inheriting memories from ancestors. Instead we developed writing and reading, by which we transfer information both current and future generations. It is through writing and reading that we aquired such such deep and wide collective intelligence and became this advanced as a species. A lot of us isn't really consciously aware that knowledge, technologies, arts, culture and craftsmanship; all of them can actually be lost from societies, writing and reading is the only way we have to prevent that.

The fact that he believes people should see 'Bollywood as a genre' is again seeing the issue with a western perspective. His views are only valid for couple of Indian movies that show Indian themes packaged with western sensibilities. Why would we need to see a cinema which is not similar to us as just "different from us" nd not as "something of thier own/unique"? The problem with western pov (his view) is that instead of understanding other cultures, they just over simplify things related to that culture. That's not how things work.

Shame and Guilt two strong negative emotions , very well explained which part of world has which one of these in higher proportion . Shame doesn’t let individual to go against what is going on in society for huge past and so individualism gets hampered, however what is unique in this Indian society is if you continue walk on path of taking shame from society and still be independent, and your actions and intent of actions help society in some way or other , you are accepted though it may mean after long time. That openness of acceptance in shame based society is also unique feature that let this civilisation go on but it is very difficult to break.

Well….. nobody especially the late millennials and gen Z will agree with calling some actor a god. Especially in Mumbai, we live around these individuals, all the stardom they get is cause we like to watch films, but don’t consider them as god. Instead it’s a wierd imagery of us Indians, in western minds that we treat them as gods. We like them for their work, and it’s just the collective liking that you see. Also it’s because of some PR stunts like Salman khan releasing movies during Eid cuz only the Muslim poor folks will go and see his mediocre movie.

Wise gentleman! Very interesting conversation. Take aways for me: 1.\ Western world is built on Guilt. India is built on Shame. Famous saying in Indian middle class: "Duniya ka sabse badaa rog, mere baare mein kya kahenge log." sums it up for me. 2.\ 1+1 is not 2 always in real world. For example; 1 Mango + 1 Mango can never be equal to 2 Mangoes if you think deep. The real challenge here is to first find 2 exactly identical mangoes. Thats the truth about nature.
