So, a public service, which is essentially a monopoly, is charging more for a lower standard of service? Scurrilous charges, perhaps genuine, perhaps not, are being settled by tax generated revenue and not from corporate profits. Ok, got it.

Just watched a bit of your video and had to comment on the part of when you mentioned some coins like Harry poter, Star Wars. You're right, I only have been using Royal Mint for a couple of months, I only buy patriotic coins in silver when I can, but I must say half of it. I won't buy as it's more film based. They should concerntrate on patriotic, British stuff so half of it I won't buy.

Hi BYB, I have purchased 27 beautiful made for collector RM proof silver coins, regular and piedfort, ranging from 1972 to 2017 for spot to 10% over and 21 proof gold coins, sovereigns, £1, £2 and £5, and Britannias, £10 to £100, ranging from 1979 to 2005 for 2% over spot. So it is possible to get these beautiful coins for much less than the issue price. The drawback, however, is much patience is needed and being anywhere near up to date is impossible. Though as a collector/stacker, being up to date is not important. My Canadian proof gold and silver coins, bought the same way, compose a vastly larger collection due to local availability. The RCM produces a vast array of beautiful proof collector coins, largely unknown outside of Canada, which fade into obscurity as time passes.

This sounds very much like the manufacturing company I work for, pushing things out the door even if it is poor quality. Now I see that we are losing orders because of this, i should know , I do the quality control side of things. Often I stop work because the quality is poor, to then 10 times out of 10 be overruled by management.

I really like the RM the best and I think that coin you have looks fantastic. I assume you are in a very good financial situation to be able to afford proof as the price difference between proof and BU is insane. Myself I'm looking forward to acquiring the new BU Tudor dragon.

I love the royal mint, but Thay still have milk spot issues. So, I'm currently not buying from them until Thay fix it like the Canadian mint did.

These are souvenirs sold by the Royal Mint, not investments. Don't expect any value above intrinsic value and you won't be disappointed. The rest is your enjoyment, just as I get enjoyment from art on my walls or wine in my cellar. Neither of which will produce capital gain.

Those screws in that acrylic case in my opinion are just so bad. Such a poorly executed presentation. Makes me appreciate the Perth Mint and Royal Australian Mint all the more.

I used to get excited buying a coin from RM, you knew you had something special, something that had potential, in time, to add a little value more than you paid for it. But now RM are taking that potential future value up front, they want that little profit the collectors may have hoped for and we all know the coins are just not worth buying at these levels. 5 years ago a coin like the team GB 50p would have completely sold out before dinner time on release day, but now they cant sell 5k of them, just too expensive and i have a couple of friends that collected from RM that have given up, purely price has ended their hobby.

You really have gone off Royal Mint it is apparent through and through. Keep on stacking but the volume that the Royal Mint produce are vast and QC or QA are least of their worries now as they have got their client base. There is nothing that anyone can do as if you want to continue collecting coins that are British unfortunately they will be produced by the Royal Mint whether we like the added milk spots on their coins or not.

It is lamentable you're calling it quits on The Royal Mint, these are exquisite coins. I totally understand as some of these prices are undeniably unjustifiable. For example I'm seriously not wanting to pay circa. 75% more than spot gold for the 1oz Great Seal of HviiiR but I will if I have to, if I can't haggle. We shouldn't be put in a position to have to haggle though. Shame on The Royal Mint ! They still have 89 the last time I checked, a sign of the times, times The Royal Mint have only themselves to blame for.

@@BackyardBullion bought a sovereign they didn't have in when i said i would change to new issue coin instead of waiting they only paid me back the buy back price of the coin i never owned instead of just treating it as a refund. plus the whole making an appointment to go in and buy is just annoying.

I think it’s important to mint coins that will get the younger generation interested in coin collect. I think the Harry Potter, Winnie the Pooh, Beatrix Potter coins are great for That. They are also part of the UK culture and history. I do agree that star war coins should not have been minted because the franchise is not from the UK. With that said they are nice looking coins. I think the Royal mint has done an amazing job at catering its coins to many generations and types of coin collectors. I wish the US Mint was as great as the Royal Mint in the Uk. The only problem I have with the Royal mint is the milk spotting on its bullion coins.

I just received a 1 ounce coin which I'm nuts about. I'm glad that the series I'm collecting is not talked about on KZbin and the Mint is generally forgotten about. Means I can still pick them up despite the limited mintages, at their annoying premiums, plus import duties, plus postage, but what can one do. The coin is nuts though.

Compared to other mints, the RM pricing structure makes hyperinflation look tame!!! Stopped buying just over 6 months ago.

Pretty much similar sentiment. The star wars / harry potter stuff just doesn't interest me and my family. But great engravers still high interest which I've picked up a 2oz silver and gold . Though the recent price rises has very much turned me off most proofs at this stage and will fall back to bullion . Quality of the coins have me sweating each time you click that order button with the looming stress of wondering if you need to return it. I'm in Australia thus huge effort to return if it comes to that

It's such a shame. When the RM gets it right, they really get it right, but with their complete lack of QC these days, it's not worth buying from them. I've started their Tudor Beasts series, so I'll finish that, but I'm not starting any more series until things change. My bullion supplier here in Australia is also reluctant to get any more stock from the RM due to the poor condition of the coins that he receives and then can't sell. Such a shame really otherwise they'd be my favourite mint, but they are way down the list now

For me, most off the coins i bought and graded all came back at pf70 \ms70 so i have good qualitycontrol experiences .but you cant walk away from the price hikes and the tat they release. Its like the middle isle,of a well known german company. As for the great engravers, the three graces and the una and the lion coins are fabulous you won't go far wrong if you have them 😊

Have to say as one of many million Star Wars fans I was glad to see them do some Star Wars as previously I could only buy Star Wars bullion from the New Zealand mint and then they’re not cgt exempt they’re prices are ridiculous though

I don’t know anything much about gold, owning nothing myself, but it looks like Brittania bullion 1oz coins are the easiest investment at the mint. Everything else looks overpriced with huge margins. Am I wrong?

Dont buy any gold and silver bullion directly from the royal mint. They are WAY more expensive than a dealer. You can buy from Atkinsons or Chards for much cheaper.

You can see why the Royal Mint charge so much for their products when the HR head honcho is on £123,000. One wonders what the rest of the management are on, meanwhile the actual workers churning out the products are probably lucky to be getting the living wage.
